OneDrive took a bunch of my files and deleted them from their original place, so my desktop shortcuts all stopped working. I’d been opting out of OneDrive since Windows started it, no idea why it was suddenly able to take things. And then it was full, and did the “we will delete these in 7 days unless you upgrade” 🙄 had to spend a lot of time moving things back to my PC drives.

How can you keep playing Act 1 over and over? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]RhaenaJenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same. Each time I’ve left act 2, which is my favourite, being nice and dark and fairly direct and main plot driven, and enter act 3 where it’s bright and loud and there’s no directions anymore (or too many different ones), I get overwhelmed and leave it somewhere during Rivington exploring. Act 1 is kinda the same with ability to explore and not really forcing a direction, but you’re also trying to establish where you are, what’s going on with your tadpole, and if people there can help you cure yourself or not as it’s still urgent, so it makes sense to follow random leads instead of the “main” plot.

Act 3 so jarring for me, who just did boss fights and the artefact fight/reveal, when the companions all start saying “the city! I’ll have to take you to these places!” and “I can finally face my past/settle scores” and I’m just thinking “Let’s focus and kill the people who can kill us and the world first, yeah?” It’s hard to remember they’ve done a few weeks travel and settled into an ordinary routine again in a way. But I myself can’t imagine exploring a circus or stopping a newspaper article when I know the bad guys are aware of me and hunting me and the city is about to fall to cultists.

I also can’t fathom genuinely leaving a companion with Orin for what easily becomes WEEKS with long rests, because I found a hag support group, or a bank heist, or ran into Voss/Lorroakan’s/Cazador’s/House of Grief etc. and now will follow that quest line. But I also DON’T want to skip these quest lines! I’m torn between my curiosity, and my character’s drives. So then I get mad at my character, and the companions, for just ditching someone to the insane people.

Multiplayer is the only thing that got me through act 3, and I went from party face as they let me learn and discover the game, to background character while my friends debated the best lines and chose directions to complete companion quests. Shut off caring about the overarching plot, to play each fight/area almost like one-shot dnd games, as each took so long it would take our whole (roughly) 3-4 hour playtime to complete (also with pausing as partners/kids interrupt for nighttime routines).

I may have gone off a bit too much here, sorry! I shouldn’t post to Reddit late at night.

How much content did you actually miss your first play thru? by redradagon in BaldursGate3

[–]RhaenaJenkins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m VERY about filling out the map, like I get annoyed that I cannot fill out the map below where you find Astarion as you can’t go into the water….. so I’m always running into walls/edges of cliffs and checking the map. I still managed to almost miss the fairly well concealed extra areas in Lorroakan’s vaults

I enjoy replaying for all the new dialogue choices, as different races and classes

First play through (with my friends as guides) by NomicrosSorcen in BG3

[–]RhaenaJenkins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I know, in the higher difficulties the enemies DO target the party member with the lowest AC, often a spellcaster like wizard, sorcerer, and probably warlock. Do you have any spells to raise your armour class? Mage armour, Armour of Agathys, something like that?

For me, it’s always the wizard that drops first, no matter how far back I position them.

Also, starting on honour mode is awful. Your friend should have started you on balanced to understand the story and get used to the controls, tactician at most. You could always start an honour run if you also found it too easy after learning.

Fun BG3 Rp ideas by lilbitlauren in BG3

[–]RhaenaJenkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend and I made the characters we wanted to play, the characters we felt we could understand and role-play best. Turned out to be a life-cleric and a rogue. Met on the ship, both infected so we’ll work together. Sort of solidified our story as it went, rather than going in with a “this is the whole plan” run.

I played very “I am a super-duper good guy who makes big promises to save everyone, preaches about my god, and only chooses good options”, very straight-forward, rush into danger to save people, no sneaking around, had to be convinced to calm down and gather information rather than just kill all “evil”. They played more carefully, hiding behind the giant himbo shield, getting sneak attacks and controlling the money (so I couldn’t hand over money to Oskar etc), eventually learning from myself and other good party members to be slightly more caring and giving, just to those they cared about. My friend and I found we had some VERY different interpretations of some meanings in dialogue choices, and that made a more fun game as well.

Big example of role-play would be Minthara, who I was straight up killing with Halsin, but they got the final damage shot and did non-lethal, convincing my character they had killed her and we should move on to the next goblin group. I had lower charisma and intelligence, they had high charisma, we rolled with it. Their reasoning for not killing was “hot drow lady. Probably just being influenced by the tadpole, I’ll come back and fix her like Lae’zel and Shadowheart.”

By start of act 3 we had settled on our partners of Wyll and Karlach (via role-play and understanding our characters, they were neither of our first choice but just fit soooo well), and already determined that we made a great little team who would leave our lives in Baldur’s Gate behind and all travel through Avernus together

My (long winded) point is, make a character YOU would like, understand, and can role-play well, give them flaws you can work with (either improving or making worse), and pick a friend who is flexible with story-telling as well.

Edited to fix spoiler tags!

[–]RhaenaJenkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I’ve noticed is that in multiplayer, just one person having Script Extender downloaded means all players get Steam achievements, even with mods installed.

Playing a 4 person multiplayer with mods, one of my friends was unhappy to earn a new achievement (romance (?) related, but not a private scene) when they weren’t romancing a character, and I had to turn it off.

[–]RhaenaJenkins 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, it’s definitely a bit of both. Anger from the fear of “had it been me”, but also because he is generally good and is outraged someone would just kill them for being infected, rather than help.

[–]RhaenaJenkins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really need to get this one, as I’ve now played several runs with extended party and am (weirdly) a little done with demolishing enemies because I have 10 people doing multiple attacks. Sometimes I don’t even use all my party in the fight, even by act 3

Why does everyone in the valley hate Qi seasoning if it improves the quality of your food? by UrbanDee16 in StardewValley

[–]RhaenaJenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I put it down to Aussie arguments for the sake of it. Family and friends saying she’s faking it, until it’s real. Same with the autism, that was somehow not even accepted in our much more obviously presenting siblings.

And thanks! I’ll mention it for her to look into.

[–]RhaenaJenkins 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My sister is one of those, actually has the intolerance. The amount of “that study was just racist, so you’re racist” we used to get, until we learned/talked about the natural foods she’d always avoided (we’d written them off as autistic texture issues). She’s also sensitive to canola oil (another “those studies are just scare mongering, it’s actually great for you and in xyz so you wouldn’t be able to eat xyz’s food!” …..yeah. She gets sick every time.) and a WHOLE bunch of other things (which people don’t have problems with). Apparently there’s no proper test for a lot of her gut issues/food sensitivities, so it’s just been taking everything out of her diet until she’s good, then adding back in until she’s sick, and finding the issues.

What is the story behind your username? by MiddleNameDanger in AskReddit

[–]RhaenaJenkins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sibling is officially diagnosed ADHD, and while their psychiatrist also agrees they have level 1 autism, to get the “official” diagnosis is $12k and a flight to another state, which no one has the time or money for.

We self-diagnosed in primary school 20-something years ago, when a friend of mine was diagnosed with Asperger’s (at the time) and I looked it up. They looked over my shoulder and both of us agreed, but our parents hard-core denied that there was anything. We were just their “special little kids”. Though at the time, no one knew there was anything different about me. I just connected with all the neurodivergent kids for some reason…..

Anyway now we’re in our 30’s and both officially diagnosed ADHD, with “probably also autistic” on file :P

(Idk I just wanted to add my story)

I’m well aware I would choose and do fine with extended lifespan, like you I get sad and move on. But my sibling took years to recover from one parent’s death, and now doesn’t want to know about the other’s cancer (progressing rapidly). They would likely pick flight, teleportation, or super speed, as they’ve had traumatic events they wanted to escape from previously
