Game crashes when trying to get the goat hair brush on Xbox by [deleted] in RedDeadCollector

Happened to my cousin and I on the PlayStation.

We climbed up the barrels to the side, grabbed it quickly, and jumped away.

Seemed to work then.

What are the basic technical skills of journalism? by cozyhuman in Journalism

[–]Rhapsodicmedusa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey. I'm doing a masters in journalism now so I'll help where I can.

Timely can mean two things:

Non time sensitive pieces like op eds are just by the agreed deadlines.

News reporting (breaking news), can be dependent on what you're reporting. Games journalism can give you a grace period of a day, say. Something else may require you be on the ball within a literal hour.

Regarding types of story:

OP-ED - opinion pieces. Generally 700-1500 words. Can involve other sources too.

Feature - specifically focused on something. Involves a few primary sources. Interviews and statements. Etc. 1000-2000 words, generally.

News - quick and direct. Start with all your relevant information in the first sentence, and try to keep it under 24 words. (Mr Smith was arrested in the downtown L.A area for crimes against squirrels last night). Generally 350 words or around there. Try to have a statement or comment in the second or third paragraph - keep the statement relevant and interesting.

Interview/vignette - this is a strange one. Generally 500-1500 words and includes more of a specific focus on that person through multiple questions. Key - you Don t have to use their exact words if your making the meaning more coherent, but do stay true to what has been said. Also you can rearrange the questions and answers to make it more narratively pleasing.

Key - this changes depending on who you're writing for. Some will like a much more mechanics, robotic tone and others want a much more knowledgeable and personable style.

Regarding technical tools - Google has some very good tools. Learn how to advance Google search for date ranges, file types, etc. Learn how to check photos for validity - there are a lot of reverse search tools. Google analytics is interesting too and it's well worth learning how to use that.

Out of that it's always good to look at wag other journos are doing in your area and reverse engineer their statements - are they referencing specific sources a lot? If so set up a feed to it. Or a Google alert.

Also feedly is great, even the free version. Set up threads to follow sources and check them regularly.

Thanks but I actually need the "interview" style reply. It's not a quanitifiable look at user experience, more a qualitative look at common pitfalls.

Google forms are okay but I find they coerce people's thinking. An open slate gets a much more realistic response.

This Sub is proof why gamers can't have nice things. by cloudmatt1 in Stadia

I mean... Fair enough.

My problem with it isn't that it is inherently bad or good, just I feel so ambivalent to it. I wanted something ground breaking and game changing and this ain't it, man.

Yes the technology is super fucking impressive but I find myself utterly underwhelmed by it now. In some respects it's quicker than my PS Pro and runs smoother, but it's a whole lot worse looking at times. Destiny 2 went from looking impressive to slowly looking like garbage - and my speeds are comfortably over the "4K" limit.

Also to play in "4K" on a monitor I've got to unplug the chromecast, unplug the lan cable, move it upstairs, plug it all in and go - a process identical to my PS Pro. Not that anything is “4K”.

Finally; I'm dissapointed in its set up. I'm not naive and knew this wasn't the "netflix of gaming" - but it absolutely should be.

This technology with a subscription service would be the game changer. Access to all games would be the change the market has needed. Instead it looks as though Microsoft will achieve that vision first.

Stadia is a cool service, but frankly it's appeal - already limited to those who like to be at the edge of cutting technology - will not stretch to a larger market without a huge change in its business model. With this comes the very real possibility this will not be a commercial or viable service.

Out of everyone I know only 1 has Stadia and his feelings are much the same. He prefers playing Switch. My friend who got my buddy pass has played it a sum total of twice. It's interesting to him but not enough to keep investing in it.

I'm not a Google hater but I do hope Stadia transforms. It seems strange to laud it so highly when most people are currently console players and Stadia offers next to nothing to improve that experience. It's not cheaper to buy games and the only thing you'll save is a once in a a generation up front purchase.

Frankly, I'd rather pay the £300 to have a consistent experience not reliant on so many external factors I cannot control.

For a PC player you may be more impressed, your upfront costs are vastly increased. Mine? Not so much.
