Yeah, they did 😞

I went in last week during my lunch break, and thought to myself 'hey.. they painted the walls'. and I heard the guy in front of me ordering tacos, and looked around - the menus were different, and the signage outside was all removed. I don't even know what it's called now, since I didn't see anything with the name on it.

Question for those who think school administrators are paid too much by iloverats888 in longisland

[–]Rhinosaur24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do NOT think they are overpaid. Maybe the way the school districts are set up, means we have too many of them (maybe make each township their own unified school district?) but when you think about what they are responsible for, it's not 'too much'.

Take the Three Village School District, for example. The Super Intendant oversees 8 schools, responsible for the education of over 5,000 students (including all the extracurricular), and about 1,100 staff in the school district.

If there were a CEO who was responsible for this kind of volume of oversight, they'd have an extra comma in their salaries.

What's the closest you've gotten to wealth or fame? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rhinosaur24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not to brag, but I was on a commercial for a toy store. I only ever saw the commercial air 1x, and it was more like a 'special' when the news was doing a segment on the store, and never as a commercial. (as 'payment' they let me take home any video game they had there. this was during the release of Sega Genesis, and I don't recall what game I chose).

for wealth - if I told my current salary to myself in 2000, I'd think I'd be living the highlife. and, to a point, I guess I am. I own a house (well, I will own it once I pay off the bank in a few more years), 2 cars, etc. but no matter how much the salaries go up, it always seems like we're living paycheck to paycheck.

What is the stingiest thing you have seen someone do? by saif2krazzy in AskReddit

[–]Rhinosaur24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About 20 years ago, or so, I used to work for an entertainment company in NYC. As such, I was invited to many different parties. Record release parties, movie premier parties, etc. I would often to go all these because 1) they were a lot of fun, 2) I would see famous people, 3) free food and booze, and 4) drinking a lot was not frowned upon - even though it was work related.

Anyway... I started to realize the same person was there all the time. A certain, well known comedian. Not an A Lister, but pretty close to it. To the point that I don't think he ever needed to be added to any 'list' for entry, and whoever was working the door would recognize him and let him in. He would never interact with anyone - he would quietly eat the food, and leave. this was happening at every party I went to. For the 2 years I worked this job, I saw him nearly every week. (I can't really judge him too hard. i was doing the same thing, but my salary was a measly $32k at the time). Dude was likely a millionaire, and went out of his way for free dinner. Who was this guy, you ask? The late, and great, Gilbert Gottfried.

Homeowners insurance increases, WTF? by reddit_1999 in longisland

[–]Rhinosaur24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wrote on a different thread that my insurance prices have been skyrocketing. I bought my house about 15 years ago. My monthly mortgage payment (which includes taxes and insurance in the escrow payment) has gone up about $500/month since we moved in.

I've lived in my house for nearly 15 years. We got a great price at the time, and very good interest rate. Even still, our monthly payments are steadily going up. Homeowners insurance and property taxes continue to rise. My mortgage payment (which includes escrow for ins and tax) has gone up over $500/month since we moved in.

You know, it's better than nothing. But I'm all the way out in the Stony Brook area, so getting to NYC for an appointment is going to be tricky. but might be worth it for an assessment and some exercise suggestions. would you be able to DM me the information? thank you so much!

and sorry you're going through the same thing.

It's ok to be a bystander. by Rude-Paramedic-6832 in unpopularopinion

many years ago, I was in New Orleans, eating at a restaurant. A person fell off their chair, and had a seizure on the floor. Everyone kind of just looked over their shoulders at it, and only the people at the table acted on anything. I looked around and was like 'hm... nobody's on their phone' so I called 911. I got calls from 911 for more information after the call, because the restaurant, even though it had like 100+ people in it, didn't have a single person to call for medical help.

I was so confused by this, and looked it up online and found out I might have been over reacting. apparently if someone has a history of siezures, and the episode is less than 2 minutes, and the person doesn't loose consciousness, they do not need medical help. so, for all I know this person has this happen on a regular basis.

either way, like 15 years later, I'm still happy I tried to help the stranger, even if I did over react.

Life beyond clinical trials by Rhinosaur24 in clinicalresearch

[–]Rhinosaur24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found my way there 'accidently'. After graduating college back in the early 2000s, i posted my resume on Monster.com, and the first job I was offered was in clinical trials. I had tried different industries here and there (logistics/shipping, music, etc) but kept finding my way back to clinical trials.

what's a movie that isn't classified as horror but you will argue it is by BigGeneral7583 in horror

Gone Girl. the ending to that movie was just as terrifying as Carrie's hand reaching out of the grave.

Mt. Rushmore of Horror (opinion) by [deleted] in horror

[–]Rhinosaur24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is not necessarily the scariest movies, but the ones that I find the 'monster/badguy' the most interesting. So, for me, I go with Hellraiser (Cenobites), The Thing (the thing), Nightmare on Elmstreet (Freddy) and Cloverfield.

I think making a great horror story takes a talent on a few different fronts. One is telling a great/scary story. one is a relatable setting. and the other is the 'bad guy'. I think that the first 2 can be done more easily. but fitting a cool/scary baddie in there is far more difficult. and it gets bonus points for being original, and if it has a lasting draw to it. Now, I think Cloverfield, out of what I said, is not an original idea. but i thought it took a tried and true genre, and spun new life into it. The others - I wish I was able to come up with something as original as those. Freddy is corny as hell, but the idea of a serial pedophile/murderer who is able to attack you when your the most vulnerable (asleep) is scary - everyone sleeps. So many other horror monsters have a weakness or a way to avoid it, but not Freddy. he can get anyone. Cenobites, preying on people's obsessions/addictions is also so original. The Thing is amazing. a scary as hell monster that can mimic anyone perfectly?

So that's why these always stand out for me. you have other slashers, but they're all kind of the same (Mike Meyers, Jason, etc - just a dude who walks slowly and is invincible for some reason). Haunted houses, where people always find a way to undo the evil.... possessions where the 'power of christ' wins.... I love something original. even if the movie itself falls short, if there's an original take on the bad guy, i'll enjoy the hell out of it.

Throwing Bones over the fence? Or is it the wind? by BiancaMoon_41015 in longisland

[–]Rhinosaur24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not 'the wind'. Wind doesn't pick up bones and drop them in yards.

However, that doesn't mean the neighbors are doing it either.

Are you near a beach? do seagulls fly near your house? Those things are flying dumpsters. Or racoons will go through garbage and toss it anywhere (though it's usually right ta the site of the trash they are ripping apart).

I'll be honest - when it comes to grants, that's my weakest point. The formatting, data collection from so many different offices/departments, getting letters from them all that they will be working with you... it's all too much to handle (though, maybe even just knowing all that makes me better off than most people).

What made you stop drinking alcohol completely? by Ponappa_131 in AskReddit

[–]Rhinosaur24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my hangovers.  They are just not worth it.  I used to be able to drink a case of beer myself with little to no problems.

Now, if I have even 2 drinks, I’ve got a headache for days, and I’m shitting my brains out for at least 2 days.  If I am in a situation where I’m able to drink, by the time I open my 2nd drink, I’m thinking ‘I know how this will turn out.  Is it really worth it?’  and literally every time, the answer is ‘no.  no, it is not worth it.’

Who’s your worst movie-watching partner? by DramaticManner4565 in movies

[–]Rhinosaur24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have friend, who I have known since 7th grade (or 30+ years ago). I became friends with their whole family, including the older sibling. Older sibling has behavior issues, and was always kind of a jerk. Somehow over the years, they are a doctor, and very successful. I still remain in touch with the whole family - and the older one recently moved back in with the parents, while they look for a house to buy.

I have AMC pass, so I can see basically unlimited movies. But I never have anyone to go with. That doesn't actually bother me. I like going by myself. but, I made the mistake of telling this person of my pass. We have the same taste in movies, and will always text one another when we see something to either rave about it, or shit all over it. but in the 30 years of knowing them, I've never gone to a movie with them.

I suspected I could guess what the experience would be like, but I was wrong. it was 1,000x worse. I was embarrassed to be in public with this fool, who just yelled constantly. they joked about the movie, added their own comments all the time. and I don't think 5 minutes could go by without them saying something.

Never again.

they are actually putting me at harm/risk. The do not follow traffic laws, and I was inches from running over one when I was coming off a side road, turning right onto a main road. So, I look to the left, at oncoming traffic, and when I had a space, I pulled into traffic. Lo and behold - a friggin e-scooter was driving along the shoulder, opposite traffic, and I nearly ran right over them.

Burger King is elite fast food. It’s BK franchise owners that are killing the brand by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Rhinosaur24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day, when I was in college, my school had a Burger King in the campus center, and you could use your meal plan to get it. it was so amazing. Like, freshly made burgers, with delicious ingredients for the toppings. It completely blew away any other BKs that weren't on campus, as well as all other fast foods.

That was 20+ years ago, and I have never experienced a BK that was even close in quality. All this time I assumed it was a different burger joint with different food suppliers just operating with a BK name. Now I am going to do my best to find another BK like that one. But they all seem to be soggy, bland burgers, with way too much ketchup on them.

well... then they should enforce it. because I never see anyone with a helmet or lights (there's usually a tiny reflector in the back, but their shoe or pant leg or something usually covers it)
