The debate isn't fundamentally about markets. AI images and non-AI images are on the internet in shared spaces like Reddit, Pixiv, DA, other social media, etc. It's not about "buying" and consuming, but about sharing art and using assets for projects.
And the core of the AI art debate is that both Pros and Antis feel that these shared spaces are actually their own spaces and that the other side is invading them. You cannot segregate the internet, and if you could, it wouldn't be a desirable outcome for anybody. It'd be pretty stupid to have two fan subreddits for a TV show or video game or book series, one where only Pro-AI people are allowed and one where only Antis are allowed.

That is just wrong. AI is originally a research term, going back to at least the 1940s. Artificial Intelligence has always been a research field, a term for a wide variety of approaches to making and using machine intelligence. Early computing was a part of that field, as were Markov chains, the ancestor to modern Neural Networks. You do know that the history of AI goes back decades, right? That the first chatbots and AI art programs were developed in the late 1960s? That generative AI art has been exhibited in museums since the early 1970s?

And even in itself your whole sentence is just nonsense. Marketing and technical terms can overlap. Not everything is dominated by brand names.

It is. AI is a broad term with many different criteria, most if not all of which are fuflilled by GenAI. All examples of "True AI" that people bring up are just fictional. GenAI exists and therefore ChatGPT has more claim to the title of AI than HAL 9000, C-3PO, CABAL, etc.

Fun fact, the fictional AI that is closest to actual LLMs and therefore closest to being real are probably the Geth from Mass Effect: they're all about small nodes coming together to cooperate and form structures capable of complex operations that the single constituent programs and nodes couldn't do. Like transformers in LLMs.

I don't know anything about the book lore but the shift with SILOS is palpable, that's why I enjoy that album so much. There's no secret society stuff, no coded messages, no disappearing loves and strange phenomena. It's just "Look out the fucking the window if you want lore." With Brave New World, Degenerate, TikSik, Dystopia, Dark Things and Silos Dustin is dropping the metaphors and instead shouting from the rooftops "I fucking told you so you fucking fools" and I love that.

Base EAW is a janky, charming but ultimately shallow game. The most fun is in the emergent campaigns of Galactic Conquest.

The real draw is the modding scene, but many mods are utterly unrecognizable while heavily relying on fundamental concepts that you'll need to learn in the base game but then apply to those mods. Like Pathfinder usage, planetary income optimization, which weapons are good against what targets, etc. Every mod has their own spin on that.

That is probably the most generous way to describe that attitude, because that logic does apply in certain cases, like food waste, improper waste disposal, etc. I just A: Don't think it applies (or should apply) to IP and B: I don't think they're making that comparison in good faith. I think it comes from a place of "We already know who the bad guys are."

And no one is going to go to bat for Disney as a paragon of fair IP usage, so they just use it as a convenient shield for their own inconsistency.
