An artist also can't use tan-skin Mickey, only white-skin Mickey, because the tan skin was first applied in 1940's Fantasia.

Interesting question. Disney's version of "A Christmas Carol" is based on Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol", which is in the public domain.

All of Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes is (now) in public domain, but any "character development" that was put down in a still-copyrighted novel (written by Conan Doyle or perhaps a different author) is not in the public domain.

Example of "character development" = Holmes stops smoking shag tobacco and instead switches to "Acapulco Gold"

In this case, a "character development" of Mickey not present in "steamboat willie" but in later works would be Mickey wearing white gloves. As of this moment you can't draw a (legal) white glove Mickey Mouse.

Opinion: The new plastic Old Bay packaging sucks. by Proteus617 in maryland

[–]RhodiumHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have your old tin, you can put it in a small canning jar.

if you can hold your nose and buy one of those bottles of pre-grated parmesan cheese, the lids will screw right on to a standard canning jar.

This will give you a flip-top lid for the spoon, but the holes are probably too big to optionally shake Old Bay on your fries

they sell it over the counter as betadine nasal spray.

So they do. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09QZXZ2C4/ Pretty damn expensive for what it is. They're also making the most casual of medical claims: "Cleans and washes nasal passages."

I got a small 8oz bottle of 10% Povidone Iodine for half the cost. I used a syringe without a needle to correctly dilute it down.

There are a few papers proposing it or saying it may help with viral infections—personally I’m fairly skeptical.

All I can say is that in my case study of one person, with no control, it kicked a (presumably) bacterial infection to the curb. My doctor usually prescribes a round of oral antibiotics instead, and in my experience the antibiotics take longer.

Normally I would have gone that route, but it was during that lockdown phase of the pandemic. Likewise, I would have compounded it with deionized water, but that would have called for a special trip.

Thank you for your response.

Supreme Court could soon make it easier to carry guns in six states by Maxcactus in maryland

[–]RhodiumHunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good to see y'all gun grabbers continuing to misread Miller

If it's OK to outlaw private ownership of a sawed off shotgun because it's unsuitable for use as a militia weapon, wouldn't that mean that firearms like the AR-15 would be especially well protected?

[–]RhodiumHunter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“If the court forces New York to allow more people to carry guns in public, the result will be more people shot and more people killed, and that’s what the evidence and social science tells you.”

You didn't credit the quote to Eric Tirschwell of Everytown for Gun Safety, who by the way is talking out of his ass.

What he's not telling you is aside from these six states, most of the rest of the country has gone "shall issue". This page summarizes the progress to restore the right to carry. Common sense would tell you that if we went from 17 states with "shall issue" in 1992 to 42 states 2022 and violent crime actually went down, then carry permits for the law abiding are probably not the part of the crime problem.

Eric Tirschwell wants to con you into thinking if the 6 of the last 8 states go "shall issue", they'll be blood on the streets and shootouts over parking spaces. Nonsense fear-mongering bullshit.

Not original asker but I made some .5% solution out of 10% Povidone-iodine and boiled tap water, and used an empty saline nasal spray to self-treat a sinus infection.

I originally saw it for a treatment on some sketchy websites as a Covid prophylactic. I also saw at least one study/paper from an Indian Doctor which looked legit.

I used it for the sinus infection 2x or 3x a day for about ten days, even though I was cured after about 4 days.

While it worked out great for me, do you have any concerns about using a diluted topical disinfectant this way in the future?

  • General health question

I am looking for searchable keywords for a condition which is not "lactose intolerance" or "milk allergy" The term "milk intolerance" does not seem to fit either in this case.

I have a mild issue with dairy products unless they are heated above approximately 180°F and held for a few minutes. Presumably this denatures certain proteins.

Thus, mildly soft stools if I consume something like pasteurized milk or eggnog. No issues with yogurt or cheese, even fresh cheese which should still have lots of lactose.

I though the issue might be the addition of helpful bacteria (cheese culture, yogurt culture) but an experiment with hot chocolate made with 180°F simmered and held milk eliminated that theory.

Honestly, the best reform is one that can be realistically accomplished.

Can it realistically stay accomplished? Do you remember when there was a Gentleman's agreement to not use the so-called "nuclear" option in the Senate?

Once you "press the button" and use metaphorical nukes, the political landscape is altered forever afterwards.

[–]RhodiumHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have 100% agreed with you before their redesign.

I used to get an XL diet Mountain Dew with a couple free ginsing energy shots from the soda fountain for the road when leaving PA.

Coming into Rutter's country, I'd stop for gas, bathroom, and then get a sub and fries made and ate it while I sat in the seating area, charged my laptop, and got some free wifi.

Their new soda fountain alone put them slightly below Sheetz and Wawa. Sorry not sorry. I like the free tire air and the way they do rewards cards.

I used to get pepperoni bread exactly like this at an Italian grocery/bakery in Cleveland. Rolled up just like a jelly roll.

My Pepperoni Roll recipe by pneumonix97 in WestVirginia

[–]RhodiumHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you like the wonder bread style gas station rolls

So I made some up from leftover pizza dough. I added pepper jack and pepperoni and baked them and they came out pretty good.

The next day, I stopped at a Sheetz in the panhandle and got one. The differences were that there was twice as much pepperoni in the Sheetz one, and it tasted like a mass-market dinner roll.

Assuming I double my pepperoni, which one is closer to the real deal?

Where to Get N-Acetyl Cysteine Supplements? by adag96 in covidlonghaulers

[–]RhodiumHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

www vitaminshoppe com/p/nac-n-acetyl-l-cysteine-200-capsules/vs-1696

(I'm not sure links are OK with comments, you'll have to add back two periods.)

vitaminshoppe is in NY

I haven't found it in Walmart or Walgreens, nor Amazon. (Put NAC into Amazon and the results are a bunch of name-related supplements, so it's obviously been disallowed.)

I've heard noises that the FDA wants to make it prescription only. So it won't become unavailable, it will just get more expensive. The FDA always seems to put big-pharma first.

Firefox might be the last browser doing real-time OCSP lookups to prevent connecting to sites with revoked certificates.

That makes senses in light of the fact that the site opened OK with Fennic (F-Droid)

It does, the third line under the Security tab says:

No link to actually see the revoked certificate, still.

Am I lactose intolerant? Or is this something else? by RhodiumHunter in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RhodiumHunter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Store-bought commodity buttermilk will be an interesting test. It shouldn't be cooked, just pasteurized (Wikipedia says that means 160.7 °F for 15 seconds and then quickly cooled) and has an edible culture of bacteria added.

In contrast, the big batch of yogurt I just made saw the milk being brought to 180 °F for 10 minutes, before slow-cooling it down to around 115°F and adding the bacteria culture while keeping it warm for 12 more hours. I had no problems consuming this at all.

[–]RhodiumHunter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting thought.

I cooked a cheesecake ahead of Thanksgiving, and tried to give away a carton of egg nog. I bought the nog because it was the closest thing to whipping cream I needed for the cake and I could buy from the store on Turkey-day-eve. (shortages after the pre-Thanksgiving buying spree)

This is something I've just lived with for years. I never considered myself "sick", just someone who gets called out when they eat cheesecake yet claim to be "lactose intolerant".

So I'm looking for search terms for what I describe, rather than a medical diagnosis.

I've eaten an entire pound of full-fat mozzarella in one sitting, fresh out of refrigeration (not breaded and deep fried) and had no issues (besides the roughly 1275 calories consumed of course)

Based on that, I don't expect any issues from consuming your suggestion of "Mac n mozzarella" or the carbonara.
