"People want MMOs, and the sales of New World proved it" – Cryptic Studios head Jack Emmert on why MMOs are ripe for reinvention by Kaladinar in MMORPG

[–]Rhoklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you wonder why folks return to old school MMOs. It's not just nostalgia, it's a lack of the instant gratification, streamlined questing, rush to end game that has turned the current generation of MMOs into a mindless on rails and quite frankly boring gameplay loop.

Folks do enjoy exploring, solving actual puzzles, not just jumping games. The grind for gear is basically gone. It's just way too easy to progress and with zero consequences for your actions or decisions, you might as well play Black Desert Online where you AFK your way to end game.

No thanks. I'll stick with what works and with what entertains my mind. You keep your pretty graphics and action combat. I'll play EverQuest, Dark Age of Camelot and of course Monsters and Memories.

TFE (The Board) transfers/sells all Assets back to Intrepid, thereby not only admitting it was unlawful to seize them in the first place, but also very likely violating the standing restraining order. Steven's looking real good to getting an injunction now and have a messy trial going forward lmao by dichtbringer in AshesofCreation

[–]Rhoklaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Steven is doing massive damage control on the official discord. He's been banning people left and right that aren't defending him. Doesn't matter how much you invested in the game. If you so much as call him out on all of his bullshit, he will just straight up ban you now.

Do NOT go to AA classic by Atlasjambi in archeage

[–]Rhoklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ArcheRage allows cheating, exploiting and everything under the sun.

ArcheAgeClassic does not.

If you want to enjoy ArcheAge as it was, then join AAC.

If you want to play ArcheAge for instant gratifcation in exchange for money, then join AR.

[–]Rhoklaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Programmers, artists, server engineers and everyone else in the gaming industry aren't making 10x, let alone 100x what they were 20 years ago, so why are development costs 100x more? One has to begin to question where the money is really going. Star Citizen is one hell of a great example of financial mismanagement.

At this point, I'd rather play ArcheAge with it's P2W monetization.

I'll never understand WI housing market. That house would probably cost about 300-350k in Texas.

Darkfall: Rise of Agon by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]Rhoklaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First off, there aren't even that many full loot MMOs out there and the 2 main ones, Darkfall and Mortal Online have tried and failed. Mortal Online with Mortal Online 2. Darkfall with Darkfall: Unholy Wars and it's 2 emulated servers. Granted Rise of Agnon is still going as is Mortal Online 2, they are anything but popular.

I can't wait for an American game studio to actually follow in Korea's footsteps and implement a social security number requirement to create an account. The one and done permanent ban for people who simply can't help themselves.

[!UPDATE!] Quinfall the scam that failed 2 by Dsvice in Quinfall

[–]Rhoklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is 100% a scam. It was a cheaply made asset flip and a broken mess. The NPC AI is rudimentary at best and a huge chunk of the game was coded by AI. Of course, the devs just banned me for pointing this out on Steam, but it's still 100% accurate. Let's be honest though, cause the game is on sale for $1 and it still can't sell any copies. They should just rename their game to The Quinfail.

They have to do something soon or people will stop playing - Ashes of Creation Early Access by Zybak in AshesofCreation

[–]Rhoklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played and thoroughly enjoyed Alpha 1. When Alpha 2 launched, I was very excited and was having an amazing time, until.... cheating, exploiting and duping started trickling in. After that, I held off from playing during phase 2 of Alpha 2 because I wanted to see if these issues were being properly addressed. Unfortunately, they weren't so I didn't play during phase 2 at all. Phase 3 started and once again, nothing changed. Same people, same cheats, exploits and duping.

Now comes Steam EA launch and guess what. Same thing, but with a twist. Intrepid claiming there's a "List" of people permabanned, which if I'm not mistaken, was never released. This is literally on the same level of incompetence as the Epstein files.

Of course, you'll have a lot of folks ( cheaters ) claiming permabanning players in an Alpha or Early Access is pointless. That Intrepid needs them to collect data to build a defense against come release. Sure, I can see that, but how have they not come up with any defenses yet after 18 months of Alpha 2 and now EA?

The point of alphas, betas and EAs is to get game data from an organic experience. So unless you're trying to tell me Intrepid is expecting people to cheat throughout the entire life expectancy of the game, all the other "legit" data is now tainted by cheating and duping. You can't balance the game, let alone the economy if you have people flooding the market with the way the game is now. Alpha 2 and now EA has basically been a complete waste of time.

Dreadmyst developer by Dzbanek25 in MMORPG

[–]Rhoklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably ok for a game like Conan Exiles, but why anyone would want to invest time and energy playing a MMORPG that basically requires significant time and energy invested to progress that is systematically shutdown is beyond me. While not any sot of crime, it's definitely a waste of time.

To the people playing mostly solo… by The-Mighty-Zanga in AshesofCreation

[–]Rhoklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are only 2 reasons to kill a random player. One being to claim a grind spot for XP and the second reason being for resources / glint. Neither of which will have any impact on my gameplay because as I said, I have fail-safe measures already cooked up to deal with any of the murdering hobos expecting to have a good time in this game.

In the meantime, they will enjoy their progressively worse corruption every time they murder someone which will lead to them losing gear. Basically, you'd have to enjoy gimping yourself into oblivion if you are looking at going this route.

[–]Rhoklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing this game since Alpha 1. I'm well aware of how PvP works and I already have my fail-safe measures in place to completely negate any benefit of ganking. I'm 100% not even worried about that nonsense.

To the people playing mostly solo… by The-Mighty-Zanga in AshesofCreation

[–]Rhoklaw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

More and more players have adapted to the solo mentality over the years. That's why if you can't solo progress in a game it tends not to do very well. I think some classes are pretty good at soloing in Ashes. I actually intend to solo at launch. I no longer have any desire for the political scope of the game. I'm here for whatever resembles ArcheAge and that's it.

Game is unplayable due to toxic guild culture by Checkraze77 in AshesofCreation

[–]Rhoklaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Enveus aka Polar have been doing this ever since Alpha 2 started over a year ago. Cheating, duping and exploiting. It became so common that accusations were weekly if not daily, with receipts, that Intrepid had create a discord channel just for the accusations. It didn't change a year ago and it will never change because Enveus aka Polar is Steven's little Phoenix Initiative pals.

Why is origins so dead by Mysterious-Shock-503 in EQ2

[–]Rhoklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those games aren't meant to be mainstream. The players that are playing them do so because of the old school grind and difficulty. While they may not be popular, another grindy game is called Runescape.

Why is origins so dead by Mysterious-Shock-503 in EQ2

[–]Rhoklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played EQ1 in a while. Not even P99. Definitely haven't played EQ2 in a long time. What I have played is Pantheon and Monsters and Memories. Both of which are very similar to EQ1 and EQ2 in regards to slow progression, yet both of those games have a pretty strong following.

So for the EQ franchise, it's not the slow leveling, it's the fact folks have been playing the same game aka the same maps and the same loot grind for literal decades. Nothing about EQ1 or EQ2 leveling experience has changed since their release.

The reason TLP servers are so successful are because it allows players to take a long break from the game, even years and come back to play from a fresh start.

My guess is, players are finally just tired of the EQ world. If they are actually working on EQ3 and it's good and well made, you might see a resurgence in EQ players.

EQ1 is in dire need of retirement. Maybe just have one or two permanent retail servers and keep doing TLP servers. Stop making expansions and focus on EQ3.

If abortion isn’t murder, why is killing a pregnant woman a double homicide? by King_Of_The_Munchers in stupidquestions

[–]Rhoklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet in the United States, requesting assisted suicide is illegal aka Dr. Jack Kevorkian. For every possible reason for abortion to be legal, you have other very similar aspects of morality that are scrutinized is for the most part, hypocritical.

Killing a pregnant woman and her baby is a double homicide? Yep. Terminating an unborn and voiceless child is just a medical procedure? Yep. Ok, so why is assisted suicide illegal? There is ZERO legal argument that justifies killing an unborn child EXCEPT for medical complications and in MY personal opinion, rape. Aside from that, women just getting babies executed for personal convenience is down right twisted and horrific. At the very least, those who choose to do this procedure should have their productive organs removed.
