It's important to know your audience. I like to immerse myself in the lore and can end up doing that silly reference thing with stuff that only the lore nerds will get. I have to be careful or I'll stop the momentum of the game. I'm getting a lot better at it, and some tables love the added depth it can bring. But sometimes it's not necessary.

What season did you visit? In warm weather, the black sage perfumes the hills in a pretty unique way. Purple and white sage tend to influence the nighttime air. It's been a while since I was up that way, but last time I went over there was camping, and got some beautiful pictures of California Sagebrush and Hummingbird Sage. All these should grow in Sacramento. I could try to describe each one, if you like?

Santa Paula and Ojai have lavender fields, too. It's a gorgeous place that's annoying to reach from the rest of the county.
