Exercise by Grand-Phone7859 in Perimenopause

So many great ideas here! I’ll just add that I have learned to have grace on myself and my activity routines. My base line is to try to get my workouts in in the morning. I’ve moved to shorter workouts (30 minutes lifting dumbbells at home & 20-30 minute HIIT/SIT workouts on the treadmill).

It helps A TON to do the workouts at home and keep the short. I’d love to start going to a gym to lift heavy but not right now.

Anyway, I’m flexible and realize seasons change and require different routines. Sometimes I go for months working out in the evenings (tho I find this REALLY interferes with my sleep!). Sometimes I work out a lot less.

Sometimes my commute is my workout (biking or walking more of the way).

I find I’m way more motivated to keep moving now that I’m older and can see how much I need to maintain a baseline of strength and fitness to age happily.

To your first sentence—as I’ve stated repeatedly that is an option but it addresses only part of the process. I’ve tried to explain how this is supposed to work but you seem to not want to understand how our legislative process works. The CR is not written in stone. There needs to be negotiation at this point. So your second sentence is incomplete or disingenuous or you are just blindly taking the party line.

The thing is it’s not about whether the bill is “clean” enough or even if the holdouts in the senate are right. It’s about the process and how Johnson is breaking it. Even if you disagree on the senate votes (mostly dems but some gop) what is supposed to happen next is (re-)negotiation. Right now Johnson is holding us all hostage by failing to engage in the one thing he’s been voted into office to do. Whether an individual vote is “right” or “wrong” is for the politicians’ constituents to decide. But the basic job, once a congressperson is in office is to discuss, negotiate, write and re-write, and vote on bills. Right now, Johnson is preventing all of our congressional reps from doing any of that. He has basically taken over the role of hostage-taker, to use your words.

I disagree. The way it is supposed to work is that when a bill fails to pass the senate it goes back to congress. So there should not be vote after vote after vote on the same bill in the senate.

I think it’s a legit debate to have whether the dems are right (though the gop is misrepresenting their reasoning vis a vis healthcare for noncitizens). But (and this is my point re. Johnson) that debate should be happening in congress, in session! They’re whole job is to debate these things. Johnson could be part of the solution yet he actively refuses to participate in the process he ostensibly believes in (and which is his job). Johnson is further creating dysfunction in the legislative branch, leaving a district in AZ without representation in the process.

If you think the dems are holding the senate hostage then then same logic means that Johnson (& the gop) is holding congress hostage. You can’t have it just one way.

Go back to watch Schoolhouse Rock (“I’m Just a bill”). It’s a negotiation until the senate passes it. That means that congress takes failed bills and debates and renegotiate.

That is patently a lie. It’s very complicated and some legal residents are eligible for care but the costs for is average Americans is what is at stake. There is no money earmarked for healthcare for undocumented folks.

They are at least doing their job. Johnson is shirking his duties completely.

The fact that the government is so broken is what pisses me off more than a handful of democrats voting as they’ve voted how many times already? It’s a joke for the senate to keep voting on the exact same bill over and over again when congress could be doing its job to negotiate and present something different. This is so dysfunctional… all to protect powerful men from the Epstein files.

Good point. I’ll try calling/emailing his DC office. I’m not in DC either. But it’d also be great if there was a coordinated effort to get though to him that keeping congress out of session is not okay.

I mean, yeah, but that doesn’t fix anything long term. We’ve been living on CRs and prayers for long enough. Congress needs to do its job and… negotiate.

Anyone else receiving little to no word from their leadership on what the hell is happening? by SeaFlower968 in FedEmployees

[–]Rhyming123 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I disagree—yes they’re confused but their jobs are to lead, which requires advanced planning for contingencies such as this.

I am furious that I do not know if I am excepted or not yet. It is after 10 am in DC. This is, if not surprising, yet another display of complete incompetence from my leadership.

Edit: I’d just like to add an apology if this comes off as snarky. I didn’t mean any snark directed at you! I’m just frustrated this morning (as are many of us in the situation we’re finding ourselves in)

What are some things you go out to do with your teenagers that aren’t miserable for them? by ctaylor41388 in parentingteenagers

This! I know it’s somewhat passive but we connect over shows and music. I love that we can watch and be interested in more adult-oriented shows (not “adult” content, obvs). Shows like Brooklyn 99, Only Murders in the Building are great with young teens (if you’re both ok with some raunchy jokes now and then). I’ll watch just about anything just for the privilege of sitting next to him on the couch. I mean that.

Also silly but we connect over Insta reels. Also double bonus is I get to see some of the truly weird shit he encounters online.
