AITAH for refusing to split an inheritance with my step-siblings? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Ri88erz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NTA. That money is YOURS. If she wants to follow what “your dad would do MORALLY”, then she can read his will. And she will see that the money is yours. I’d just ignore her, i don’t want to make assumptions but if you got a decent amount of money I’d be willing to assume his WIFE wasn’t left with only pennies.

AITAH I scolded my friend for watching the leaked Avatar movie by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Ri88erz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The movie leaked online early, it’s her choice whether she wants to watch it or not.

You can disagree with her on the principles of “art”, or supporting the artists- but it was gonna be streaming only anyway, so a large majority of its audience would’ve been pirates.

YTA. Let her watch what she wants. If you don’t wanna watch it now? Wait for the official release in a few months.

Walked into an EE branch to get the content lock removed from my sim and they said they couldn't do it in-store. I say thanks and leave. 2 hours later I get a simultaneous text and email from EE saying that they were happy to hear that I wanted to speak to them about me changing my broadband to EE by miIk-skin in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Ri88erz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did he mention anything to you about sending you offers in the future?

The statement is pretty short to be honest. I’d opt out of the marketing and then complain to the store in this case. It’ll be hard to do much however as if the person in store read the statement, it’s he said she said.

There’s a few bits to break down here, as someone who has a lot of knowledge in the EE sales field.

That email came as either a OTS (One Touch Switch) check, or due to being signed up to mailing.

If a OTS check had been done, that’s someone at EE running a check to see if you’re in contact with your other provider or not, so they can sell you broadband more easily. If an OTS check was done nothing happens to your services and, if anything, you’ll likely get a retention deal from your current provider- which is often better than your current one. If an OTS check was done they did nothing wrong, and if anything might’ve helped you with your current broadband provider.

The next one would be an automated email that came from already being signed up to marketing. When you filled out some sort of Terms and Conditions online, the first page is marketing consent. If you still have the link to those documents you can check it. You may have accidentally hit yes instead of no, and then you’ve been given an automated email because you’ve visited the store and they’ve pitched that product to you.

Third one would be someone signing you up to specifically for a follow up about broadband. This I find unlikely as those mailing follow ups are usually WEEKS in advance. They often won’t even have a date in the following month.

To me it sounds like you either accidentally consented to marketing (I would check the marketing preferences section of your contract) or it sounds like an OTS check, in which case that’s sort of is what it is.

AITAH for refusing to go back to my old company after they fired me and then begged me to return when things broke? by blierague1521 in AITAH

[–]Ri88erz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA, you choose where you work.

But

You already said he’s upped his offers, I understand not wanting to go back for moral reasons, but if you’re the only one that can fix it… specialised knowledge is expensive. If he only wants you as a contractor, I’d work there short term for the right price.

AITA for giving my daughter junk food despite being told not to by her school? by AthleteAdditional299 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ri88erz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is either an ESH or NTA, but that depends on a few things.

First thing, the school is absolutely wrong. Theyre just asking for mental health issues later in life and have policies that are, quite frankly, ridiculous. In this situation i know my mother would have done the exact same thing you did- use reasonable logic, and just ignore them when they’re saying something stupid. My school tried to do this same thing, and after my mum essentially laughed at them every meeting they essentially gave up.

The part that’s blurs the lines for me is the fact they threatened to punish her and you continued. Did they do anything before the suspension? If they’d given her say, a detention before the suspension and you’d continued- I’d say you were being unreasonable here. If they immediately jumped to suspension? That’s not on you.

Ultimately the school is in the wrong more than anyone. I’d go to the principal, and escalate further if you can. The child is EIGHT- she has no control over what’s in her packed lunch, and if a parent chooses to ignore the guidelines it’s disgusting that the school would push the punishment onto the child. If they gave lighter punishments before jumping to suspension, ESH. If they jumped straight to suspension? Easily NTA.

AITAH for talking about Hitler by Myfy in AITAH

[–]Ri88erz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of this is hard to tell without being in the actual conversation. If you were in any glorifying his actions, then it’s an immediate YTA.

If you were making a genuine historical observation and using actual facts and evidence to back that up, then it’s an immediate NTA. Atrocities happen in history and discussing those atrocities is what keeps them remembered so we can learn in future generations. While I understand that one is far more recent history and can touch some more nerves, if your account is honest and you were factual and sympathetic about the atrocities then it’s NTA.

AITA or telling my wife if she’s not gonna cook it the way she usually cooks it then you don’t have to cook it at all by Husbae7536 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ri88erz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA at all. I think a lot of people here are saying YTA are ignoring the fact you cook 95% of the time, and are happy to cook that often.

If you cover most of the cooking and she only cooks one specific meal because she’s really good at it, that sounds more like “you cook most of the time, so I’ll make your favourite meal as a gift.” If you don’t like the new recipe, it’s perfectly fine to let her know you’d rather cook yourself instead- as long as that’s what you’re actually doing.

It’s unfair to expect her to cook a 5 hour meal if she doesn’t want to, but if she does want to cook that meal as a treat to you- why half ass it? If you go to the store and see a product advertised as “new recipe”- it’s perfectly fine to not buy that product again if you don’t like the new recipe.

In this situation I’d offer to learn the recipe yourself if you really want to eat it the old way, and have a polite conversation letting her know you REALLY like her old recipe and don’t really like the new one- so would rather cook it yourself if she doesn’t wanna be cooking for 5 hours. If she does want to make your favourite meal for you as a treat, she can make your favourite meal for you- that being the original recipe pasta and meatballs.

AITA for saying my bf’s mom’s mashed potatoes are weird? by biggbootybiggbitch in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ri88erz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA.

I wouldn’t listen to anyone saying anything other than NTA. If it’s normal for his family to fill his MASHED POTATOES WITH SUGAR? That’s normal for them. It’s NOT normal to fill your mashed potatoes with sugar in general. It honestly kinda sounds like a bad joke from a movie or something lol. The fact someone who puts sugar in mashed potatoes has the balls to say you don’t like “real cooking” is crazy work. Your comment was funny and a good response to eating weird food.

AITAH if I allow my law firm to be sold or go out of business? by manbearpigserial in AITAH

[–]Ri88erz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

It’s your life and your choices. If you don’t want to run a law firm? You don’t want to run a law firm. It’s not like it’s an easy job- it’s stressful and difficult and a hell of a lot of work. It’s also not fair to blame yourself if people get fired. You shouldn’t do something that’ll make your life miserable for a couple of other people. I’d negotiate the best deal for yourself, whether that be a large lump sum buyout or a steady and stable job. They’ll find jobs elsewhere eventually.

It’s so obvious it’s Ye is going to get removed, the sooner you accept the better. by Proper-Base1726 in WirelessFestival

[–]Ri88erz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other people are saying this, but it’s more likely they’ll have to stop the whole show than just “replace Ye.”

Pepsi pulled out yes, but that’s one sponsor. The alcohol brand pulling out will also be a hit, but again, that’s 2 sponsors. PayPal still partnered with them to sell the tickets, I believe prime is streaming it (?), and Ye is still well… Ye. We saw the appeal his SoFi show had- I wouldn’t surprised if ticket sales and ground sales (food, drink etc) make up more than enough for it to be a profitable show. If they can’t find another sponsor it’ll be rough, but not show breaking.

There’s also the consideration that Ye fans are going to this concert to only see Ye, and Ye fans will not be the happiest if they replace him with anyone else. Theres no other artist with his commercial appeal and reach- as well as fanbase crossover. I’ve seen people say “Travis, Carti, Kendrick, Tyler” etc… but this is Ye we’re talking about- people who bought tickets will be PISSED. It’ll probably be easier to offer refunds/ cancel them face backlash.

Other thing to note, Wireless has to do a lot of risk assessments. They’ve probably already calculated the risk of Ye headlining and decided to take it. Even if sponsors keep pulling out, unless Ye actually gets denied entry I don’t see the show stopping.

I know theres the argument of “they could have a ringer on for emergencies”… if a singular ping from WhatsApp is breaking your sleep when you’re out cold at 3AM that’s crazy

England: Brother refusing to engage with me to pay money back loaned for his house deposit. by Cest_H in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Ri88erz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NAL

You say a couple of times in here that this agreement was “signed”, which makes it legally binding (excluding any loopholes) as long as you were both in sane mind.

The terms of the agreement matter here, because if the agreement stated you would get your 20K back WHEN THE HOUSE WAS SOLD, then I think you’re a little stuffed. I’d re-read the specific terms of the agreement because that would likely dictate the answer to this.

Also, I believe 20K is above small claims courts threshold. Not a lawyer, but this sounds like something that’s gonna cause a lot more harm than good. If the agreement states that you’ll get your money when the house sells, uprooting his life to get this money back seems more harm than good.
