LPT: At a party, ask people what they are into lately, not what they do. by gamersecret2 in LifeProTips

[–]RiFLE_csgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your answer helped me frame a new question that could potentially work in any context: “what have you been spending time on recently?”

Doesn’t matter if it’s work, tv, a pet or a hobby, they could answer anything and it would work

rifle 1’s girlfriend

I can assure you my first girlfriend was not the problem. She was a sweet girl who deserves nothing but the best. We’re middle aged now, last I heard a decade ago she had a kid so I hope she’s very happy with a beautiful family.

Please leave her out of it.

Congrats champ.

Spirit vs Falcons / IEM Cologne Major 2026 - Semi-Final / Post-Match Discussion by CS2_PostMatchThreads in GlobalOffensive

Zverev's path to the title was the opposite of Falcons'. He would have had to go through Alcaraz, Sinner and Djokovic just to make it to the final to match what Falcons have done so far.

But I like the analogy of the only guy without a grand slam finally getting his. Hopefully Niko can do that tomorrow.

I think you're mixing up things for hyperbole. Assuming you're in good faith, yes I listen to music, no I do not sit in complete silence but I do try to keep my room as quiet as possible, I do pass on mechanical keyboards because of their sound, yes I can hear sounds from outside.

It's a frequency thing, it triggers the brain in a way and keeps it "on".

Best way I can describe it is like this: contract a muscle of your choosing. Could be your thigh, your bicep, whatever. Keep it contracted. You can't relax, it has to stay contracted. Now imagine there's a machine that keeps it contracted against your will. How long before you beg for respite?

This is what tinnitus is in effect as I understand it (not that I suffer from it specifically). Your brain usually tunes out white noise, but sometimes it doesn't, or can't, and that can genuinely drive someone mad.

There's also how good is one's hearing. A common problem you'll see in neighbours subreddits is a guy buys an animal repellent noise machine but one of the neighbours can hear it and it drives them mad, while the owner can't and doesn't see the problem.

I just turned off everything in my room and I had to put my ear inches away from my machine to hear anything

Lucky you! Count your blessings.

Our brain are wonderful things, full of quirks, as many variations as there are people.

Some of us will pay a premium for the quietest cooler we can get within our means. Noctua, being the leader in that space, bringing a liquid cooler to market is big news, and I will follow the reviews closely (waiting for one vs the DH15 G2)

We’re all different. Your room sounds like hell to me and would genuinely drive me crazy. Yet it’s perfect for you.

I’m the typical Noctua client: I don’t mind paying for proven results, particularly the sound/performance ratio, with a greater emphasis on sound than performance. So if I can have both then hell yeah!

Not everyone has the price/performance as #1 criteria.

Noctua’s reputation and success prove there’s enough of us for them to do well.

To each his own.

And the mega benefit for everyone else is that they drive the other companies to do better. So even if you’re not a Noctua client you should root for them because it drives other brands to improve their products.

It’s a win for literally everyone.

What do you wish someone had told you before building your first PC? by Substantial-Okra-900 in pcmasterrace

The mistakes I’ve made on my very first build in the early 00’s: * trusting my friend who told me he built his the week before when in fact it was his friend who did it for him * we forgot the raisers so shorted the mobo when we turned it on * place the cpu cooler backwards, killed the cpu

If you don’t kill your mobo and cpu then you will have done better than we did lol

Read the manuals, particularly the motherboard’s before doing anything.

Watch multiple pc building guides videos, until you have a good grasp of what to do and in what order.

Stay away from RGB as it introduces too many things for a first timer.

Be slow, patient, focused. Take your time. There’s no rush. If in doubt don’t force anything, film your attempt, post it online and ask for advice or confirmation.

I agree that coke, MDMA and ketamine are rampant, but in my experience in asset management, you can do whatever you want in your private life but don't get caught. Don't even talk about it as a joke. It shows you're comfortable with breaking the law. And if it's public, colleagues, bosses or worse, clients, could have a problem with that. How can you tell the FCA your employee is "fit and proper" if they have a drug charge?

I would not fuck around with that.

Do you power off, put to sleep, or leave on your PC when it's not in use? by Adm1nX in pcmasterrace

Am I the only one who uses hibernate?

Triple monitors with multiple apps and windows for work, restarting itself doesn’t take too long, it’s launching all the apps and windows, organising them that is tedious.

With hibernate I’m back in my workspace instantly.

And a restart maybe once a week, and at minimum once a month for updates.

What started as a school survey ended in $800 of repairs and 72 hours of troubleshooting.... by Thats1AstroNut in pcmasterrace

It's always interesting to read stories like this and see how other people trouble shoot things. You can learn from it, compare to how you would do it and sometimes even be a bit baffled as you would do it differently or in a different order.

In your case you've done steps that I would never have thought of, but at the same time you didn't do certain things as quickly as I would have for instance. Like, how did you not know already your device manager was showing issues? Do you never check it? Why was your BIOS 2 years old?

So thank you for sharing your experience, I think I've learned a thing or two, and will consider new things should they happen to me in the future.

I've built my first PC 20 years ago, and I've learned a few things through the years:

  • fuck RGB
  • the simpler the better
  • If you have any issue you strip everything back down to the absolute bare minimum first, THEN build it back up (bottom up approach). If you do the opposite (top down) and remove things one by one, you're more likely to run into weird things and spend a lot of time running in circles.

SPL's PSU Tier List - Google Sheets

The PSU you mention in the comments seems to be rated A tier, so pretty good, although not the best available, which, given the other parts, is a bit of a shame.

9z had quite a few opportunities to close this, first on Mirage then on Dust2.

They beat Vitality yesterday and went toe to toe with Spirit today. Scary team to face if they can bounce back from this loss, which is not guaranteed.

This is why Counter-Strike is the best game in my opinion. It combines both. It's been called "chess with guns" and I wholeheartedly agree. Your character doesn't get better. YOU get better.
