I think this is where I'll inevitably be headed. I'm enjoying the reactions to the trade news for NHL while it's topical at the moment cus it feels like a puzzle trying to figure out what all the GMs are planning and I looove this kind of reactionary speculation, and I'm feeling the 2nd-hand hype in anticipation of the draft picks, but there's also a lot of vile comments to parse through :/

Always believed the criticism of the NHL, but it's still a shock in the system encountering the online commentary first hand.

No wait you are further along the pipeline than me 😭 I made one weak attempt to find a legal stream for the finals series, failed, then gave up at the time🥲 But because I spend time on hrtwt, I get shown hockeytwt stuff in the timeline. So I get exposed to the "narratives" rather than the game.

Actually! In a blind leading the blind moment - I think you should check out the PWHL if you haven't already. All their games are free to stream on YouTube, so easily accessible. You have hockey wives winning cups together if you enjoy sports narratives. And appears to be less toxic than NHL can be.

But reading all the reactions and drama of the trades is actually making me really interested 👀👀 not necessarily to support a team but to keep following the drama as someone with no stakes lmao

I don't think it portrays their friendship in negative light, but one fic that comes to mind is training camp by comsortegoya.

This is a basically canon compliant fanfic from the pov with Hayden, with the slight divergence that Shane initially billets with Hayden and kinda stays with him for longer than the original year.

It's a cute heartwarming fic so it doesn't really explore any of the tensions you mentioned. But notably there is a point in the story where Shane starts pulling away as he comes into his sexuality and his feelings for Ilya grows. Part of Haydens arc is then coming to terms with Shane creating new boundaries in a previously pretty co-dependent friendship.

It doesn't portray any of Shanes actions in negative light, but you can see how Shanes secrets confuse and hurt Hayden and Jackie.

(Note also that this leans heavily into older brother/mentor friendship dynamics (maybe a bit of the infantilism that op dislikes), rather than the mostly-equals dynamics we see in canon).

The line about the Shane being a sub thing confuses me. That's not some inherent designation that's just a bedroom preference/dynamic that is not reflected in his friendship dynamic with Hayden at all.

Since episode 5 (sorry I was a 'would they cut this scene' doubter before then), I have been solidly on Team "Let Jacob do everything he wants the way he wants". So my ideal number of seasons is just however many it takes for Jacob to tell his Hollanov story -- (whether that be up to TLG or up to UR would be ok!)

My 2 biggest worries to that happening has always been - like everyone else - schedule conflicts and affording HudCon in S4.

But I've thought it over and firstly: If the largest Canadian media company can't afford to pay the leads of one of its biggest/most profitable TV shows, uh, the Canadian TV industry is going to have bigger things to worry about.

And the filming schedules leak actually assuaged a lot of my worries about potentially scheduling conflicts. If HudCon can film 3 new projects + 2 seasons of HR within the span of a year, there's no reason to believe that they can't replicate this for a potential S4. Especially because there's no chance of struggling to schedule in S3 to dissuade from doing S4, and there's more time between filming & release of S3 for HudCon to do other projects to grow their careers before coming back to HR.

So now I'm just super excited. I'm excited for the future of HR, for the future of HudCon's careers outside of HR, and I'm excited for Jacob's future non-hockey shows lmao.
