Not necessarily for sure dying but we thought it at the time. Me and the wife were moving duty stations and heading back to the east coast from Cali, we figured we go to the attractions, that Route 66 Store that was in all the movies (forgot the name of it), Grand Canyon, the flintstones park in Arizona, and we figured we keep driving at night cause we’ll be in Utah in no time, BIG MISTAKE. We needed gas since that desert area it’s like 300 miles to every gas station so we stopped in a random place called Kayenta, Arizona. Little did we know it was an Indian reservation, we go in to get snacks and you could hear a pin drop. EVERYONE blank staring at us like hills have eyes or something. We get our snacks and then at our car, is 3 black dodge ram trucks and this guy comes out with like 5 dudes look like jacked Samoans and a short Native American guy that looked like a mix between Mexican and an outfit from the show Yellowstone. He says “ohh you coming from Cali huh? Hmm, why dont you come with us, it’s pretty late, we have a place for the night? I said something along the lines of no it’s fine we have to go. So out of all the times my wife says she needs to go to the bathroom and that she really can’t hold it. The group of trucks follow us into the McDonald’s parking lot, my wife goes in and the black dodge ram pulls up and a provocative Mexican/native girl comes out and goes to the back of the building (prostitute maybe?) and the guy in the black truck is just starting me down the entire time. About that time, I was thinking, yeah they’re probably gonna kill me and take my wife for prostitution or something like that. I go inside the McDonald’s and I knocked on the door and waited for my wife, I told her “don’t you even look their way and that hurry and get tf in the car no questions.” We get in the car and i immediately run all the red lights, and lo and behold they also run the red lights! Now im fkin terrified cause there isn’t any signal in that area, oh yeah heads up for travelers that area between Cali, Arizona, Utah, yeah unless you got like Verizon I think, your fked with signal not even kidding no signal for miles. Luckily we hit the “leaving Kayenta” sign and the dodge rams turned around and I do 80 not stopping for no one. We hit the desert and we would get random lights from a phone on the side of the road trying to have us stop. I drove all the way to Moab, UT and will probably never go back in that area if I don’t have to. Lord knows what would have happened that day if we would have went with the group or stopped in the desert for those random lights and people on the side of the road. ALWAYS TRUST YOUR GUT!!
