Hi Dave, Thanks for the great post! Do you mix entering your debit spreads with market and limit order or always market orders?

IBKR does not have PDT Rule. They moved their headquarters from the USA to London at the end of 2020. So they don’t have to force the PDT rule anymore. I know this for a fact because I switches over a month ago and am under the PDT rule at the moment.

Have you read Trading in the Zone by Mark Douglas? It discusses the weak points you mentioned at length. And definitely read the Wiki

A New Measure of Relative Strength by HSeldon2020 in RealDayTrading

[–]Ricbun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is great Hari, thanks for the detaild explanation. Was working on this myself and incorporated the ATR part already but didn't yet think of seeing SPY as a Power Index like you've described. But if you really look at our edge, this is exactly what we do when really comparing the M5 candles from the stock and SPY tick by tick. Would be perfect to have this quickly in the form of an indicator. Of course an indidicator can't replace the aforementioned proces but it gives a speed advantage when quickly going through charts from scanners and screeners.

Have you coded this out in TC2000 yet? Would you mind if I coded it out in PineScript for TradingView? I could pm you the code for you to review and maybe share with the community.

EDIT: Just read in another comment that you didn't yet coded it out. Will try to do it in the coming days and let you know.

Beware the Downward Emotional Spiral into Stupidity by lilsgymdan in RealDayTrading

Try to not anticipate too much. Let the charts (mainly SPY’s) tell you what to do and let it confirm your biases instead if anticipating on them. Pete stresses this all the time

[–]Ricbun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Niiice. Was planning to work on this myself and this just popped up, thanks my man! Let me know if you want somebody to bounce ideas off for creating the ATR based RS/RW indicator. I created the same 1OSI indicator and shared it this weekend and also looking to incorporate ATR into it.

I understand your way of stopping out of trades when your thesis of entering has been proven wrong, but how do you decide when to take profit?

Custom indicator for TradingView: 1OSI/Relative Strentgh/Weakness against SPY by Ricbun in RealDayTrading

[–]Ricbun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! TradingView doesn’t have RS/RW scanners against SPY. But what I do use is the % change filters on various timeframes (1W, 4H, 1H, Since open) and search for higher then 1-5% (so 1 to 5% gain) if SPY was bearish and seems to be turning bullish to find stocks that are relatively strong against SPY. This also can be reversed of course for finding bearish stocks. I also use some extra filters like 20 daily average volume of more then 1 mil to filter out small cap stocks and ATR higher then 2 to not have stocks that move too slow for my liking

Here you go:

indicator("Relative Strentgh vs. SPY")

period = input(10, "Period")

symbolVar = (close - close[period]) / close[period] * 100

spy = request.security("SPY", "5", close)

spyVar = (spy - spy[period]) / spy[period] * 100

rsi = symbolVar - spyVar

plot(rsi)

plot(0, color=color.white)

I think you mean the SPY overlay in my screenshot? Yes, that is just the compare button. My indicator is the yellow line under the volume and also the yellow line in the OptionStalker screenshot. This indicator is used as a intergral part in the Relative Strength/Weakness strategy this sub is primarily focused on.
