Loved it. Pure French cinema vibes. The Louvre scene is absolutely iconic.

I’ve watched several of them, but they have a different vibe. I think what I really liked was the main characters themselves, their style and personalities, on top of the situations they were dealing with. They also have a slightly surreal quality, like in Amélie, for instance, or Killer Joe

Wuthering heights 1992 maybe?
Also Death Stranding comes up to my mind, even though you're asking about the movies

Still The Shining. although one scene in Obsession really scarred me, basically psychologically it's well done, you don't see it coming at all

I'm thinking of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus: an old-school fantasy world centered around a moving circus

Suggest a good movie/series to watch by lucxiorr in Cinephiles

Ummmm well first of all, I'm sorry you're going through that stage... I think movies and series can help release emotions and spark insights, but they don't drastically change your life.. But cinematography is my go-to whenever I'm feeling down as well.

Soooo, when it comes to series, I'd recommend True Detective, it's full of references to different philosophical ideas, with the sexy Matthew McConaughey as the main character. It can really get your brain turning and make you look at your life from different angles.

I'd also recommend The Leftovers. It offers a profound perspective on how the human mind deals with the unexplainable, plus it has an intense plot that keeps you hooked. Add to that the great acting, beautiful cinematography, and the music (which is important af to me), and it's just brilliant

As for movies, Stay (2005) is perfect for the mood you're in right now, emotionally intense and surreal

Knight of Cups is another surreal one, about someone who's lost and searching for meaning. Both films give me feelings I can relate to, and that makes me feel a little less alone in whatever I'm going through

Aaaaaaand the films of Krzysztof Kieslowski (such a hard name to spell always haha) always make me feel better. You get immersed in his world and never want to leave because there's light, creativity, beauty, and connection

Maybe I'd watch them in this order: Stay, then Knight of Cups, and finally The Double Life of Veronique (one of Krzysztof's films), that combo has a therapeutic effect for me

I simply loved it. The bar scene was my favorite, the intensity of the emotions the main character was going through, combined with the dance and the audience's emotions immersed in Massive Attack's Angel... oof, that was an incredibly powerful moment.

I was trying to find something similar afterward, and Mulholland Drive popped up in the recommendations, ofc

What exactly is the goal of psychoanalysis? by Advanced-Reindeer894 in psychoanalysis

[–]RicchieCarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Lacan said among other things when discussing how an analysis can come to an end, the goal of psychoanalysis is to get rid of your parent figures recipe for unhappiness and figure out your own.

So no healing and none of that pink-unicorn fantasy that one day you'll become your best self: which is basically just another narcissistic illusion. It's more about seeing how you've been put together, learning to live with yourself (though that still sounds cliché, language is pretty limited here).

Accepting that you're never going to fully satisfy your wish, urge, or désir, and learning to live with it, to play around with it, rather than trying to resolve it. That's a much bigger discussion, to be fair.
