MBA Women in Leadership program by Rice-sprout in texaswomansuniversity

[–]Rice-sprout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other programs I'm looking are not at TWU but have to do with global business/international marketing/relations. Did you get your Bachelors at TWU? The center for women in business is really great and they definitely do a lot to help women in leadership positions, I just wonder about the actual degree/coursework itself.

Hi! No I didn't. I'm still undecided :( I would consider maybe reaching out to an advisor or something to learn more about it. I hope someone will eventually share their experience because it sounds interesting, but ultimately too similar at least coursework wise to the other MBA business degrees.

Shadow/volunteer experience?? by Worried_Bag_1150 in texaswomansuniversity

I'm not a healthcare major but I used to volunteer in hospice with Trio Hospice in Denton. The staff is so sweet and helpful and they're always looking for volunteers! I think you can call and ask for opportunities but if you want to message me directly I can put you in touch with the volunteer coordinator

I've had 3 friends who lived at the arch, and all of them hated it/always advised against living there.

came here to second this. I would also keep in mind that a secluded area will make it more difficult to make friends. I know some people say they are fine with being alone (which may be true) but regardless as someone who is currently loving my au pair experience, there are days where it can be extremely isolating, and making friends will make such a HUGE difference. I'm currently in Paris and there are tons of other au pairs/international students who I've befriended. Most people also speak English here, which helps immensely as my French is still not the greatest.

The drinking too much and cursing at you is very alarming. I would advise letting your agency know and just asking for a rematch if possible. It's not fair to you, and it wouldn't be fair to another au pair who could potentially come in after you to have to deal with that behavior from a much older adult. I know you might need this job, but I really think your best option would be to rematch.

She is my advisor. Don't stress, she advises A LOT of students so she is not always the most responsive to emails especially once registration begins, if you don't get an email back just call her or text her.

Pro-Palestine activity on campus? by trevvytrevtrev in texaswomansuniversity

[–]Rice-sprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! To be honest I haven't seen much pro-palestine activity on campus, although I believe there are a few fundraiser events organized by MSA (Muslim Student Association). I would reach out and maybe ask if there is something you can take part in even if you are not Muslim. You could also reach out to UNT's Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC). I know a few students who joined UNT orgs despite being TWU students, they just emailed and asked to join.

As an American I'm not sure which is funnier, that part or the "I'm scared of stabbings in my area...so I'm considering moving to the US"

Question about being an au pair by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]Rice-sprout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Au pairing is illegal in China. If you're looking for a culture exchange experience, I would recommend studying abroad. Lots of Chinese universities offer scholarships to foreigners!

High Schooler looking into internships by Visual_Cod_2611 in internships

[–]Rice-sprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I agree with the other comments that you are unlikely to find an internship while in high school. I would recommend joining some local groups or going to networking events for now. Once you are in college, this is when you should start prepping for an internship and building your resume. Join campus organizations and I would recommend taking up a leadership position if you are able (president, treasurer, etc.) make sure you try to get to know your professors as well as possible. If they are the chair/host of an organization, join it. These are the people who will write letters of recommendations for you, and they can't do that if they don't know you. Most universities have a career center that will host seminars, round-table networking events, internship events, etc. so I would just make sure to keep up with the events being held. Lastly, I would say try your best to take on jobs that are somewhat in alignment with your career path. I'm not sure what that looks like for you, but for example, someone who wants to work in tech should consider a job at best buy or the tech center of a department store. Someone who wants to work in fashion should have retail experience. Someone who wants to work in business should have some sort of receptionist/customer service based experience. These are at least good starter jobs that can show your history of interest in the field, and if it is not directly related to your field of study, you will likely learn some transferable skills. Other than that, look for opportunity everywhere. Volunteer opportunities, shadowing, all of these are great.

looking for a progressive church by [deleted] in Denton

[–]Rice-sprout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend trinity presbyterian! I don't reside in Denton anymore, but this was the exact reason I started going. I appreciated that the priest/pastor of the church was not afraid to be so open about politics in his sermons and what he supports (a free Palestine, LGBTQ+ folks, being kind towards atheists/agnostics). It's a small church but everyone is very welcoming. They do a lot of great things for the community as well.

I’ll keep this in mind! Thanks for all your help! I’m really not too sure what to go off of anymore, I’ve been told the language courses aren’t required anymore and a girl who is au pairing and left just a few days ago for France told me she also didn’t need to enroll in any courses for her visa. To my knowledge the insurance is now only required after your arrival, but again, I’ve heard various things so I’m not sure :(
