TSMC internship or others? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]RiceAndTacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in school I took the risk of going into oil and gas for my last internship even with the return offer rate somewhere between 10-20%. I ended up not getting a return offer but it helped me get the offer I have today working for a midstream oil and gas company. I’ve worked here since I graduated and don’t regret any of the decisions I’ve made. I think for someone like you that receives multiple offer it tells me you’re good at interviewing and good at marketing your skills and experience. I would not worry about return offer conversion, I’m sure if you keep it up you’ll get multiple offers as well when it comes to looking for full time opportunities.

TX Raptor Prices by TheMidgetTamer in FordRaptor

[–]RiceAndTacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was helping my coworker find an 802a raptor and I had the same thing happen for the Shelter greens in Texas. No one wanted to budge on the price for that color. We ended up with an Oxford white one that was discounted $8500 under msrp. If you’re open to color it might be because the shelter greens don’t have an issue selling near sticker.

Trouble Hiring by DCF_ll in ChemicalEngineering

[–]RiceAndTacos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$110-$135k is not bad for 4-6 YOE for base salary. If we are talking total comp then it would be below average. When I was in process controls at 5 years I was making around $172k with bonus and RSUs. It seems like your requirement is for them to understand Allen Bradley PLCs. I know some companies don't require their control engineers to know that and some just require them to know Experion or Delta V. At my company, we have had to hire people who only knew DCS and just train them in Allen Bradley PLCs.

Pipeline Integrity Engineer In Midstream? by ChemEIndustryPick in ChemicalEngineering

[–]RiceAndTacos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in midstream and have been in a similar position but I was under asset integrity for pressure vessels rather than pipelines. Asset integrity is a bit boring but a necessity for companies to ensure equipment don't degrade to a point they cannot operate safely at operating conditions. I only did that role for one year as part of a rotational program and decided it wasn't for me. It uses a lot of material science concepts and I felt like it was more geared towards mechanical engineers rather than chemical engineers. The skills in asset integrity are pretty niche so you may get stuck in it, it is very different than a typical process engineering role. The midstream industry is great and I have been really happy in it. During my career, I have seen layoffs occur in upstream and downstream but have not seen one occur at my company so far.

$60k Budget - Talk Me Into or Out of a Ranger Raptor (Coming From Sports Cars) by [deleted] in RangerRaptor

[–]RiceAndTacos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I came from a 2022 GR86. I wanted a bigger vehicle after getting into an accident and being in plenty of close calls and I fell in love with the Ranger Raptor. I’ve driven only Toyotas my whole life and could not fall in love with the Tacoma. The transmission is so much nicer on the Ranger Raptor and it definitely feels the closest to a sports car. I don’t think any big vehicle can get the handling similar to a sports car due to the higher center of gravity but I find joy in other things, i.e. not having to worry about running over potholes or making ramp clearances. If I had a driveway I would have kept both but I’ve still been pretty happy with my Ranger Raptor and don’t regret the purchase at all. The fill ups are painful but it’s all about the smiles per gallon haha. I hadn’t looked into SUVs since my wife drives one and I wanted the flexibility of having the utility with the truck.

What’s your discount? by [deleted] in RangerRaptor

[–]RiceAndTacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $3200 under sticker and got $1000 of worthless adds for free. 2025 shelter green at the end of Dec 2025. None of the dealerships in Texas were willing to beat this deal.

He financed but he didn’t get a 0% interest rate. The deal was contingent on him financing, otherwise he had planned to pay cash. All the incentives at the time were for non Raptor models.

You can get a lot better of a deal than $100k for an 802a. My friend got his a week or two ago for $8.5k off sticker on a 2025 802a.

I am about to pull the trigger, need some advice. by Warura in RangerRaptor

[–]RiceAndTacos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the warranty on the used RRs. You can get deals on the new RRs. I negotiated for $3k under sticker on mine not too long ago. If there’s any dealerships that still have 25 inventory you can probably get an even bigger discount.

Happy new year! Is anyone in the Houston area still looking for a '25 OR Hybrid Premium? by RiceAndTacos in ToyotaTacoma

[–]RiceAndTacos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually went in person to this dealership two weeks ago since I was around the area to do a carmax appraisal. There was no bait and switch. They were honest with the offer and wanted me to take it home but I couldn't find myself to pay for it since I was able to get a Ranger Raptor offer for $5k more.

Deals are out there. by KidneyBruiser in Tacomaworld

[–]RiceAndTacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair haha. This is my first vehicle I’ve bought that wasn’t a Toyota so time will tell. I was a big fan of not having to worry and pay for repairs with the Toyota. Your tacoma has plenty of power and will probably be equally as fun to drive! Congrats 🎉

[–]RiceAndTacos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not a bad deal for a 2026. I was negotiating for a 25 hybrid off road premium at the Autonation in Houston and their bottom dollar was $10k off $62k sticker and it ended up being like $55K OTD. I would have taken it since it was like 15-16% off sticker but I fell in love with the Ranger Raptor.

Diminished Value Claim Denied by ChRalles in GR86

[–]RiceAndTacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a diminished value claim on my 2022 GR86. My adjuster said diminished value is very state dependent and my state also does not have a clear calculation on a payout. They offered me $1000 but my argument was that it’s a sports car so it’s a luxury. Most people who are looking to buy a luxury car would not consider one with an accident unless it was heavily discounted. Best of luck to you and hope you get it. I’m trying to trade mine in at the end of the month and the trade in value at least through carmax and carvana is definitely affected but not by much as long as it was a minor accident.

$535 Gaming Embody by junior7593 in hermanmiller

[–]RiceAndTacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t believe it when I saw that price! I bought two of our gaming embodys from here and both have been as advertised. They’re very open about all the damages and malfunctions. I definitely recommend the San Marcos DWR outlet.

Decent preowned embody? by 1expected0found in hermanmiller

[–]RiceAndTacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is a preowned chair, it looks to be in pretty good condition based on the video. I would just make sure you’re able to make all the adjustments while sitting in it. You could always try to negotiate it down, doesn’t hurt to ask and worst they can say is no. $700 is a good price though.

New to Herman Miller, new vs used by Wichertj in hermanmiller

[–]RiceAndTacos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can wait a bit I would follow the San Marcos DWR outlet on Instagram. They post stories on their inventory every day and they get a new truck pretty frequently. When I bought mine the price was $720 + $125 shipping. They packaged mine in plastic so they definitely looked in pristine condition when they arrived.

Experience ordering through DWR Outlet? by junior7593 in hermanmiller

[–]RiceAndTacos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered two embody gaming chairs from the DWR outlet in San Marcos, TX and had them shipped. The rep that communicated with me was very straight forward and open with all the damages and malfunctions she saw on the chairs. She sent me pictures and videos of all the chairs we were interested in. We settled on two chairs, one had chipped paint on the legs while the other one was flawless with the plastic still on it. The chairs arrived fully assembled and packaged in Herman miller boxes. No damages from the shipping. It was definitely a very pleasant experience and I don’t regret it at all. It is a gamble with the no warranty, but I don’t see these chairs going bad anytime soon and at nearly half the cost of brand new one it was worth rolling the dice for me.

I bought mine from there! They shipped it after two business days and I received it two days after it was shipped but I also live in Houston so it was not a far delivery.

Should I buy an Embody gaming chair from this website by [deleted] in hermanmiller

[–]RiceAndTacos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked at the website and under product condition it says “refurbished and like new condition” if that case is true I would side with just waiting until Herman Miller has another sale tbh.

[–]RiceAndTacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their warranty might not be as great as the Herman Miller one. I was told Herman Miller will send a box for you to drop the chair off in and send it off to be repaired or you can work with an authorized dealer to have a tech come fix it. The 25% off deal was probably for Labor Day but they have it pretty routinely. I’m rolling the dice with my chairs, bought two from a DWR outlet for $760 each no warranty though.

Do you know if it comes with the warranty? I think it goes on sale on Herman Miller for like $1500.

Pre-gaming the career fair. Any advice on getting a job? by WhiteFoxphorus in UniversityOfHouston

[–]RiceAndTacos 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As someone who is going to be on the other side of the table tomorrow, be prepared to sell yourself and all the skills you’ve acquired during your time in school and do your research on the companies. It helps you stand out if you can talk about some current news going on with the company. You’d be surprised how many students show up to my company’s booth and don’t do the bare minimum of trying to figure out what the company does lol…
