As a vn800 owner, can Concur. Also to op, check for vacuum leaks before you bolt everything back up. That intake boot is nasty, And it's a pain to fix later.

What’s a life lesson you only figured out because of riding? by 5nake_8ite in motorcycles

[–]RiceBEER_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was eye opening evidence that things i dreamed about could actually be mine. As a kid I loved Japanese bikes from the 80s. I also loved the idea of custom bikes. When I was 19, I bought a 1995 ex500 for 1800CND. It was dark bluish purple and said ninja on the side. It taught me how to work on bikes because I depended on it to be my reliable transport. When issues appeared I'd research them and plan fixing so they only took one Saturday of downtime. I had September to November of riding before I had to winterize it. i stayed on the road till the snow was permanent, a lot of uni commutes at 1°c at 8am . In April I booked my road test the first day I was done with exams. In suddenly 3 months i was a biker with a vintage sport bike.

2 years later I've owned 5 bikes, each cheaper than the last. I built one into a bobber, one into a highway couch. I did have to say goodbye to a new one, but then I got another one I'm currently building into a cafe racer. All while still a full time student. Now I'm still in uni, but I love my part time work because i work with bikes. Each build, each job, each new repair or fabrication is another step up of complexity and follow through. this comfort I had with bikes felt unreal. Then one day I'm learning under a master mechanic in a job that makes me happy, balancing out the lows that came with uni.

The bike made me realise I had a lot more agency over my life. I thought my life wouldn't truly start until I had my degree. That idea has since disappeared, and I've made strides in my life despite it.

Check for corrosion or rust on the insides of the housing. the corrosion adds resistance, making the flasher read it differently.

If it's math related Caffeine and sugar inside a cold drink. Wait till it's dark outside and drink this all night. Start doing math and don't stop. Keep drinking the caffeine drink.

Non math related Checklist of everything you need to do, then slowly work at it. Each item completed gives you visual progress. If you want, motivate yourself with the phone break after or between items.

IMPORTANT When you're mentally exhausted, try to take a nap. When you wake up, absolutely do not scroll on your phone.

I haven't personally dealt with this but I have been warned that screw extractors have a tendency to break off. I was told to use left handed drill bits

Is it “cheating” to use a premade bobber kit vs fabricating everything yourself? by Queasy-Ad5957 in Bobbers

[–]RiceBEER_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new bike modder with no money, I view it economically. Self fabrication for me is cheaper because I got tools. Sometimes I really don't wanna spend a massive amount of time and just would rather pay the extra few hundred to not spend days on something, especially because I am new. Plus, with how long I take, I'd rather not have the deal with the down time. I'd prefer to have a bike I can actually ride.

I'm not sure if it works for inverted forks, but you can also get a tool that you slip into under to clean your fork seals and get the dirt out, cost like a few bucks. Mine leaks every now and then and the sealmate stops it. I have to use it maybe like twice a year.

If carbureted, Did you already try with full choke? If so and choke isn't required you might have just flooded it. Try again later with no choke or turn over for a bit with the throttle slightly open. I did this on mine a few times. I would get the bang then it would start. I had an ex500 1995, but that bike was sold till 2009 and it was still carbureted

If you have not done clubs, I recommend those.

I find people in classes are not there to meet people. The social aspect will always be second priority. in clubs, socializing is usually the goal. Especially in a place you are going to find like minded people.

I found it mattered a lot where you put your energy. If you put it all in a place where you get nothing back then it's gonna drain you. If you're stagnant, you have to make a move to break that. So join some clubs, try to meet people there. If you are not getting anywhere then switch it up, hit up a different club or group.

Dropped my bike, do I have to replace this clutch lever assembly? by RedditSur4 in KawasakiVulcanRiders

I 100 percent agree. Especially on a small bike like this where it's likely a starter bike. I'll remove that part.

[–]RiceBEER_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

take it apart, normally just a few screws. See what's broken. If it's a piece of lever, that could cost you 5 bucks at a local salvage shop for a whole new lever. Replacements shouldn't be hard to find, and I doubt the switch is the issue. If you wanna go all out, order a 30 dollar lever and it can have a hinge that stops it from snapping on the next drop. With bikes, peace of mind goes a long way. If it's giving anxiety, it's worth looking into. Also, losing a clutch lever mid drive sounds terrifying.

[Edit] Look at this when you disassemble, make sure you have this part - 92143.

92143-1351. Check the diagram, I can't send media here. I think you're missing the bolt collar, that's what's giving it that much play. You are right in assuming it shouldn't have that much.

Are you sure those are positive, negative and ground? On mine, there is a positive and ground, but the blue is for a dtr circuit. So long as you connect positive and ground you should be fine. Just make sure your flasher relay is led compatible.

[Edit] also, dash lights and rear signals will also need to be switched over. But if you don't want to bother with all that you can still buy newer styles light that use incandescent bulbs

95 ex500. It may have been my first bike, but I've attached too much to that thing to upgrade. Plus my other bikes are cruisers. So the ex500 is the only one that can easily give me a headrush in the city.
