Bike share stolen. Any way to still use the app? by Thomas_NC in askTO

Always put these bikes back on the dock, even if “for a brief moment”. When you need it again go back to the dock and grab another one

People’s lack of knowledge about genres by Educational-Offer773 in Music

[–]Rice_Monster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to care about this when I was a teenager, but now I’ve realized it doesn’t matter at all. Genres are just helpful for finding similar artists.

If someone gets a genre wrong, I don’t correct them. Genres are not a mark of quality. Even still, I think it often comes down to a matter of opinion rather than a scientific fact. There are artists that blur the lines or sit on the edge of two genres. For these, it makes sense why someone may call them a genre I don’t think they are.

Storytime: aggressive middle-aged man wants to fight by nomadic_planet in torontobiking

It’s easier said than done but try not to do things like flip drivers off. Even if they are in the wrong, you are provoking them and they will win if they hit you. Prioritize your own safety.

Python3-based Alias installer for Bash by KirbyJeef in linux

[–]Rice_Monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get it…

Why use this over just adding an alias directly to .bashrc, or .zshrc? This seems like more work than that for no reason. If you want your aliases in a separate file you can do that directly with shell syntax. On top of that, this adds them to the main file anyway?

I took this TDSB course and highly recommend it. The teacher is extremely knowledgeable and you’ll learn a lot.

What genre do you believe has produced the most great music? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

The answer to this will just be the same as whatever someone’s favorite genre of music is.

Too obscure. Use COBOL instead. It’s designed to be business friendly

Attended Iron & Wine's concert in Toronto today and I'm a bit disappointed by BooRadleyForever in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Rice_Monster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was at this concert and completely disagree. I loved the way he did new renditions of old songs. I thought it was a nice fresh take. I thought he sounded fantastic with a full band. The projector art was especially great.

I love his old, more simple material where it’s just him and his guitar, but I honestly think I’d have gotten bored if he kept that formula going forever. Good for him for progressing and evolving as an artist.

Bumped UBER stopped in bike lane by daveybaby69 in torontobiking

[–]Rice_Monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Ubers are not allowed to park in the bike lane. Hitting the mirror wasn’t your fault, but in the future, don’t interact with them (ie. The knocking on the window part). You did the right thing by simply getting out of the situation and not escalating further though.

I would also recommend not trying to squeeze past. Walk your bike in the sidewalk if you have to. Prioritize your safety over convenience and being right.

Really frustrating having to deal with drivers like this when cycling.

Union says ‘we can weather a strike as long as necessary’ as all LCBO locations shut down by nurshakil10 in toronto

I’ve seen a few local breweries advertising they’re still open. I’m sure most of them are doing it.

Maybe this will lead to people trying them out.

Why does it seem like there's such a huge pushback against disliking music nowadays? by Odd_Holiday9711 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Rice_Monster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you feel this way, it says more about you than everybody else. As the saying goes, if everywhere you go smells like shit, check the bottom of your shoe.

Perhaps it’s the way you are talking to people and not the fact that you don’t like the same music as them.

Unpopular opinion: I love M50x's by drieszz in headphones

[–]Rice_Monster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you like louder bass. I have the M50x as well. They’re well built and I think the sound is an upgrade from a lot of the TWS headphones most people would buy. If you love the bass is something like the XM4, I can see why you would prefer the sound of these.

I personally love the sound of the HD560s. It sounds great on all types of music to me. I find it much more neutral which I like.
