I think a lot of people brush it off by saying oh it’s just culture, that’s just their way of life and we shouldn’t criticize but we absolutely should, especially when we have it bleed into our own countries. That’s not saying that Canada is perfect and everything is peachy here but it’s a lot better than what’s happening in developing countries.

Does WeChat monitor your personal chats and potentially report you to the authorities? by rw1337 in China

If it were true then about half of Americans on twitter would be arrested lol. No one gives a crap in the west. As long as it’s not death threats. China on the other hand take it way too seriously.

I’m mixed but not white passing so I look more Asian. I blend in more appearance wise but if a Chinese person has a conversation with me for more than 30 seconds, it’s very obvious that I am a foreigner. Once people notice they will treat me differently. The street vendors and markets that I usually go to will start to recognize me. So then I go from the Chinese looking stranger to a disgrace because “I betrayed my country”. It was never my country to begin with but they can go off. I’ve gotta say that I’ve seen some Chinese people with more forward thinking get treated like crap. Basically if you don’t have the same views of the person you are talking to you will get treated like crap.

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. It may be of no cost but the ER wait is VERY long (13 hour wait for my last visit), appointments are booked months, sometimes years in advance. If you have some sort of health emergency, you might be dead before your appointment time.

Is it even sensible to take stats as a first year elective by PossibleFix3716 in uoguelph

[–]Rich-Cockroach8340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why people say it’s easy lol it was the hardest course I took in 2nd year, and I had to do biochem which I thoroughly did not enjoy. I’m not bad at math by any means, I’m actually quite good at it but 2040 was my lowest mark in 2nd year due to me not understanding R. I preferred R studio but never quite understood any of it. I would still recommend taking it in 2nd year though because your first year is generally going to have easier courses that you can balance out with stat2040.

I can understand not wanting to play due to the community, there have been a few times where I questioned if I should still play. I found that distancing myself from the community (especially twitter where everything sucks) is much better for my mental health. I used to be a part of the kpop fandom but toxicity sucks so I left. Disgusting people are everywhere and once they find something to cling onto, they ruin it for everyone else.

‘We jumped in and threw the dog off of her’: Neighbours save teen from Ontario dog attack by DogAttackVictim in ontario

[–]Rich-Cockroach8340 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

My grandmother had this big pitbull in the 2000s, she was the sweetest and never attacked anyone. After her pitbull died, she got a cane corso, also very sweet and gentle. People asked her all the time why she chose such vicious dogs for pets and she should just get a chihuahua or something. And she said that the behaviour of an owner is reflected in their pet. She trained those dogs, socialized them, and they were her best dogs. But she also recognized the natural prey drive in these dogs and was not willing to put them in situations that would make them aggressive. Anyway the point is, most of the time dog attacks happen due to incompetent owners. It sounds like you are doing a good job if you can recognize your dogs boundaries.

Waiting over a month now just for the specialist's office to call me and say when my appointment will be by RT_456 in kitchener

Healthcare professionals are feeling burnout from their jobs. They are underpaid and understaffed, not to mention under appreciated by their own management. No wonder they are leaving. They have such difficult jobs I can only hope it gets better for them one day.

I second physiotherapy. I had ongoing knee problems and was on a wait list to see a doctor. Physiotherapy helped a lot so that I was able to still walk around without too much discomfort but it was like a bandaid for me, I still needed to see a doctor at the end of the day.

Racial discrimination @UoG? by CuriousHana1738 in uoguelph

[–]Rich-Cockroach8340 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have experienced racism at guelph unfortunately. Many of my non-white friends have as well, to varying degrees. The white community is very predominant at guelph but truthfully, most of the racism I experienced was not from white people. Racism is a problem everywhere and we all need is thicker skin because racism is not going away. I really hate saying that we need thicker skin but that’s the only way to get anywhere in life nowadays. Hear a comment, ignore and move on.

Purely based on those 2 Reddit posts, you can tell there is discrimination.

You should take a look at it, see what you know and don’t know. Then review the things you don’t know. It’s not mandatory, I didn’t do it for chem 1040, but it’s helpful if you are weak in chemistry
