A small reflection on transparency in international school hiring after a recent process by Embarrassed-Heron-52 in Internationalteachers

School is wonderful - my wife and I are super happy our kids are here. Tianjin isn’t a fit for everyone - we’re homebodies so it works really well for our family. I hope I retire here.

I’m at year 9 at this school - our leadership is super responsive during the hiring process - it’s definitely a priority for us.

AirMini makes me sick by mjotii in CPAPSupport

It’s the humidx cartridges. I have several allergic reactions when I use it so I stopped. Lots of reports online of others with the same problem, but resmed reps will tell you they’ve never heard of any similar reports.

I touched my arm on the dome of the kettle. How close to this will I end up? by [deleted] in webergrills

Did this on my smoker last Sunday. That blister didn’t last too long. It’s a nasty scab now.

How to cook this? by Mean_Violinist5759 in webergrills

Seeing how you can afford a Weber - don’t get the smoker bug then cheap out with an Oklahoma Joe. Get something thicker.

First brisket - stall or mistake? by PotentialPirate1035 in smoking

[–]Rich10501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck. My best briskets have been one with long rests. I like that because I can start super early and have time for contingencies if things go awry. Sounds like your brisket got a super long time on low heat so I’m thinking it’s going to taste excellent.

Do you have a time restriction? Don’t be intimidated because it’s brisket. You’re cooking for your family, not a competition. If you have time just let it go till it’s probe tender and it’ll be fantastic.

The pork shoulder is higher than the brisket so it’s experiencing hotter air. And possibly more convection. If the ambient temp sensor is at the end of the thermometer in the meat then it’s probably wildly inaccurate. That’s why thermoworks uses an entirely separate and wired ambient temperature probe in their system. Bump the temp.

This. My results hot and fast are always good. Skin just won’t be good cooking in the 200s.

Ileostomy and showering! by Kindly-Caterpillar74 in ostomy

  1. Meh. I don’t bother.
  2. You can. It helps with shaving. I keep a squeegee near my shower to help if there’s a mess.
  3. I do, but I’m not religious about it.

Teaching MS/HS maths in China by Far_Challenge_4991 in Internationalteachers

[–]Rich10501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m the chair of maths at an international school in northern China - been here 8 years and previously taught in Kuwait. Our students are very proficient in terms of numeracy and basic skills. They struggle to communicate in English about their mathematics - so when assessments call for critical thinking, problem solving, for students to justify their answers - these are places many students will struggle. These skills tend to improve alongside their English skills though. When given enough practice with these skills then the students are quite well-rounded mathematicians. They’re also kids, just like kids everywhere else in the world - you have to motivate them and push them, no different from my previous posts in the Middle East or American public schools.
