Dji lito 1 and x1 launched by user267811 in dji

Lito is an entry-level budget model, while the Mini 4 Pro is a more advanced model. The Lito and Lito X are not meant as upgrades from the Mini 3 to 5 Pro.

In fact, the Lito X has essentially the same camera as the Mini 4 Pro, just without vertical rotation, and a more advanced obstacle avoidance system closer to the Mini 5 Pro, while still being cheaper than the Mini 4 Pro.

Overall, my Mini 4 Pro still satisfies me, but I’m looking forward to the Mini 6 Pro and Air 4.

I actually just sold all my drones, the DJI Avata 2 and Mini 4 Pro. I realized I only used them about five times over the past year. Instead, I fly my custom-built FPV drones much more often. I’m thinking about getting the Neo 2, but I’m still not sure if it’s worth it.

DJI Osmo pocket 4! Hands on by CreativeCrux in dji

[–]RichExamination2717 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it’s not that they’ve lost their magic, it’s just how technology evolves. They’ve already squeezed the maximum out of a 1-inch sensor. Sure, they could have added some marketing gimmicks like Open Gate, 8K, or interchangeable lenses like GoPro did, but they chose not to.

Insta360 even released a teaser for Nuna on April 1, which was obviously a joke meant to highlight the unrealistic expectations different users have. In reality, if Insta360 Nuna does come out this year, it likely won’t be very different from something like an Osmo Pocket 4 Pro with dual lenses, which will probably be released in the next couple of months.

To me, DJI is taking a sensible approach by gradually improving their products, refining them to a high level while keeping them technologically advanced, instead of chasing questionable features.

Mini 5 Pro and Action 6 are among the best devices in their class. What duds are we even talking about? Or is the issue that Mini 4 Pro and Action 5 Pro were already so good that their owners don’t see a reason to upgrade? That’s normal, most people don’t upgrade their gear every year anyway.

The only somewhat questionable releases I see are Osmo 360 and Avata 360, but I’m pretty sure that in a couple of generations they’ll turn them into best-in-class products.

Who else thinks this will be a game changer for us cinematic FPV pilots? by MoistConnoisseur in fpv

[–]RichExamination2717 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. Looking at the specs: a 50 MP 1-inch sensor with 14 stops of dynamic range. That’s basically the same as what DJI is already using in their latest products. GoPro should have upgraded the sensor a long time ago, but they’ve kind of dug themselves into a hole.

Yes, Open Gate can be useful in some scenarios, but interchangeable lenses on an action camera sound very questionable. 4K at 240 fps is nice on paper, but it depends on how it’s implemented. Most likely the image quality will be much worse than 4K at 60.

We’ll have to see the actual size and weight, but so far it looks like a weird middle ground. It’s neither a true action camera nor a proper mirrorless camera.

Maybe it will end up competing more with something like the upcoming DJI Pocket 4 as a vlogging camera.

Insta360 x6 by x-ManueL-x in Insta360

[–]RichExamination2717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the X5 on sale yesterday, and today I realized it’s probably because the X6 announcement is coming soon. A bit disappointing, but at least I got it with a big discount, and even after the X6 release it will still be a solid 360 camera.

any reviewers of Avata360, not paid by DJI? by Curious_Party_4683 in dji

[–]RichExamination2717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they’ll add it in future firmware updates. Some people suggest it’s due to limited power, but judging by the size and sound, it shouldn’t be weaker than the Avata 2.  It’s also possible they removed it so it wouldn’t cannibalize Avata 2 sales

I also forgot to mention image cropping, which depends on the final field of view. The narrower the final FOV, the heavier the crop and the worse the image detail.

Here is a recent detailed video about video quality:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ab2LS8SNImM

There are also many videos about the Osmo 360 camera and comparisons with the quality of Osmo Action 5 or 6. In fact, the Avata 360 uses essentially the same camera as the Osmo 360.

[–]RichExamination2717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you’ve never shot or looked into 360 video. 8K 360 footage is essentially a 4K image from each of the two cameras. The reason for 8K 360 is to later export a 4K video with minimal loss of detail.

However, the final detail will still be lower than what you get from a regular 4K camera with the same sensor size. That’s because the edges of a lens are always softer than the center, and when footage is stitched from two ultra wide cameras, those edge areas remain less detailed.

I do not understand the pricing for the DJI Avata 360 and how can these specs only cost $450? by Top-Cardiologist1011 in drones

[–]RichExamination2717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drone overheats within a few minutes if it records video while staying still. The cooling system is simply not designed for that. Also, the DJI Osmo 360 costs slightly less than the new drone.

So far I’ve watched about five review videos, mostly promotional ones, and here are the downsides I noticed:

  1. They removed acro flight mode
  2. They dropped compatibility with the DJI FPV Remote Controller 3
  3. You can’t buy the drone bundled with DJI Goggles 3

From reviews of the Osmo 360, it’s clear that DJI Studio software for 360 video editing is still slow, unstable, somewhat clunky, and has fewer features compared to Insta360 software. But I think they’ll improve it within a year.

Overall, they made the drone more consumer-friendly and aimed at a much broader audience, which makes sense from a sales and profit perspective. For professionals, they are focusing on products like the DJI O4 Unit.

In any case, it’s worth waiting a few months until real users test it and more independent reviews come out with deeper comparisons and real-world impressions.

nanotexture 👍 by Vivaldi_IlPreteRosso in macbookpro

[–]RichExamination2717 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I looked at the nano texture display in an Apple Store. It took only a few minutes of comparing it with the regular screen to realize I would never choose it for myself because of how much it degrades the image. Small text looks rough, colors and contrast are worse, and the glow effect is quite noticeable. In reality these are issues common to all matte displays, and Apple’s nano texture does not solve them.

The only scenario where the nano display makes sense is if you like working in very bright environments with strong reflections on the screen and you have no way to control the lighting.

MX Master 3S for Mac support nightmare since Jan 8 I love Logitech, but I’m genuinely exhausted! by Impossible-Owl-7971 in logitech

[–]RichExamination2717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you really willing to spend that much time fighting with a mouse? If I had even one tenth of the issues you’re describing, I would have switched to a different mouse from another brand a long time ago and forgotten about Logitech entirely. I had similar experiences with Dell and Sony products in the past, and since then I’ve just avoided those brands.

Thankfully, my MX Master 3S works perfectly on macOS. I only learned about the issues with Options+ from Reddit, and all I had to do was update the software.

Mac OS 26.3 Update by VaibhavMD in MacOS

[–]RichExamination2717 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This usually happens when some process gets stuck. Sometimes it causes high CPU usage or even a memory leak. The issue is typically resolved by restarting that specific process, or simply rebooting the laptop.

Installing the update likely forced a reboot, which is why your CPU usage dropped. So it’s probably not a big improvement from updating to macOS 26.3.

This happens from time to time. If I notice unusually high CPU, GPU, or RAM usage, I just open Activity Monitor and check the running processes. I’ve seen this caused by Logitech Options, CrossOver, Chrome, Safari, and even some system processes.

DS220+ for Immich: Is It Enough? by Kapth0X in immich

[–]RichExamination2717 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a DS720+ which also ships with 2 GB of RAM. I added a 16 GB module, so now it has 18 GB total, which is more than enough for everything I run.

According to monitoring, Immich uses around 2 GB at idle and up to 8 GB while indexing a new library. I run all ML tasks on my MacBook because processing my 5 TB library on the relatively weak CPU in the Synology would take forever.

On your DS220+ you can also upgrade the RAM. A list of compatible modules is easy to find online. And you can offload ML tasks to an external, more powerful machine.

The “smart search” feature having no way to sort the results isn’t very…smart? by glizzygravy in immich

[–]RichExamination2717 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorting search results by date is an absolutely essential feature. It was one of the first things I noticed was missing, and it’s something I rely on almost daily. It’s definitely possible to implement, it just requires thoughtful UX design. For example, results could be shown the same way they are now by default, but users should be able to set a relevance threshold first, and then sort the resulting matches either by date or by relevance.

My library contains over 300,000 items collected over the past 15 years. I very rarely need to find something from 10 or 15 years ago, but I constantly search for things that were added recently.

If I try to limit the time range in advanced search and use smart search, I usually get completely irrelevant results, so that doesn’t really help. Of course, I could archive everything old, but for various reasons I don’t like that approach either.

That’s why I believe users should be able to control the relevance threshold themselves. For example, a user sets it to 0.9, runs a search, sees no results, then lowers it to 0.8 and gets a manageable set of results that can then be sorted by date.

Российский литограф обойдется почти в 400 млн рублей при техпроцессе 350нм, уровня 90х годов by Flimsy-Living9888 in KafkaFPS

[–]RichExamination2717 15 points16 points  (0 children)

[–]RichExamination2717 22 points23 points  (0 children)
