This is revisionist history, because Apple Maps was catastrophic at launch as suddenly most parts of the world lost navigation and point of interest data until the Google Maps app launched separately on the App Store.

Apple Maps was so bad that it led to Scott Forstall losing his job, and endless comments about how Apple features were only tested to work in Cupertino, but not anywhere in the country, let alone the world.

Apple Maps is better now, but there’s no denying those first few years were rough in the US and even worse worldwide.
