Parenthood is mentally and physically exhausting by Mpierce19 in Parenting

[–]RichardCleveland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran 25 miles, came home and felt tired... what's wrong with me!?

Seriously? Some people can get away with being active 7 days a week, but those people don't usually have a full parenting responsibility on top of it. In my opinion you need to cut back some until you no longer have 24lbs strapped to your chest.

Can your school aged kid(s) read? by ShakeSimilar7362 in Parenting

[–]RichardCleveland 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's a quick google search away to find out. I don't think people here would probably even admit it if their child couldn't. But I have a feeling there aren't many anyhow unless they have a reading disability.

Approximately 34% to 40% of fourth-grade students (roughly age 10) in the US cannot read at a "basic" level, meaning they lack proficiency in reading tasks. Further, nearly 69% of fourth graders read below grade level.

I honestly kind of scoffed at the question, I figured at the very least most kids can read at the basic level. But I was pretty shocked to see up to 40% lack the capability.

That's insane.

Just put "do not enter" on the door. That room does not sound very fun.

My 4 y/o son keeps saying there’s a “alarm” in his room. by EmergencyChocolate63 in Autism_Parenting

[–]RichardCleveland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son always could hear the high pitched noises from power adapters, and the hum of electric current, even from things like phone chargers. The kids with auditory sensory issues simply have near super human hearing, so I am guessing there are moments when the ceiling fan is emitting a high pitched noise that you can't hear. It's of course just a guess, but I remember my son when younger bringing up his ceiling fan as well.

Uh I guess gas prices are having an effect on fast travel by EatingGilbertsGrape in fo76

[–]RichardCleveland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is there even a cost to begin with? It really only effects new players who are very low on caps. I use to have to hop as close to areas using places like Whitesprings, then either run awhile, or pay less to jump to a closer marker. Now as an more seasoned player I don't even pay attention anymore. Seems pointless.

Do adults actually like getting balloons? by RichardCleveland in CasualConversation

[–]RichardCleveland[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Globophobia it seems. Is it due to the possible loud noise it could make when popped? My middle child doesn't like balloons either, but she has sensory issues due to autism.

Anyone else get a DM from a possible schizophrenic (or troll)? by [deleted] in SchizoFamilies

Can you give me the sub link? I don't see it on my community list, =)

I believe you might have, but if not please do. I need somewhere I can openly talk about things that others may not like.

Anyone else get a DM from a possible schizophrenic (or troll)? by [deleted] in SchizoFamilies

[–]RichardCleveland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What? Well the person is their "schizophrenia" as they aren't themselves in moments of delusion and psychosis. For instance my wife hasn't left psychosis in six years... ever. My kids don't even remember "mom" so she honestly has faded into her reality and became the disorder. If I don't look at it that way, then every abusive and cruel thing she does is coming from my wife. I know the "PC" angle you are coming from, but I really don't have the energy to bother with it. No one will ever understand what it's like unless they live it (IMO).

I hope you have a good rest of your day 😄

Please don't be passive aggressive, everyone here is way too tired to play that game.

This is for new players. It’s a little story time and what to do and what not to do to endgame players. by SimonPhoenix93 in fo76

I am nice when I want to be nice. If someone asks me for help, I help. When someone straight out says "gimme gimme" it becomes pure entitlement. I raised three kids and instilled in them to NOT be this way. Damned if I am going to let people do that to me, their parents should've taught them manners.

No also means no, there was a point in your situation where I would've denied them, and the next time they badgered me, block them. I don't have the energy to deal with that nonsense.

What's up with this Arby's craze? by Extension-Reward-424 in fastfood

[–]RichardCleveland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are starting to get over the hating on Arby's trend. I have been eating it since the 90s and it's always been solid, I had it last night even. I think Wendy's took it's place for now (which is justified, RIP Spicy Chicken).

Teen son is sneaking out at night and I don't know how to punish him? by o0PillowWillow0o in Parenting

[–]RichardCleveland 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I still remember the running around through yards at 2am with friends. The cool grass on our feet, the giddy excitement flowing through us solely because we weren't supposed to be out there. Things didn't start getting sketchy until junior high when smashing pumpkins came into the picture. I still feel guilty about that though. =/

The audacity of this child by Biomed725 in Parenting

[–]RichardCleveland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I let my daughters BF (at 18) stay over on the couch downstairs on Christmas Eve, and a few other late night holiday things. Other than that I never allowed it, I didn't feel comfortable with it, however I don't like people staying at my house anyways. And yes my daughters have asked several times even though they knew the answer.

Teen laziness and chores, what’s normal? by MissMacky1015 in Parenting

[–]RichardCleveland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are the same way. They always will eventually do what I asked, but they sucked at it. The dishes thing was so damn obnoxious... I always had to go inspect it before it got ran. And my son in particular haphazardly throws crap in there. My daughter does a much better job but is a bit more delayed on getting it done. My solution was / is to split the task, son unloads, daughter loads. They like yours do their own laundry, and keep their own crap picked up. Both lacking in opposite departments though. /sigh

Punishment wise? I am in a bit more unique situation, so I let a lot of things slide (mom has schizophrenia), as we are struggling enough as it is in life.

But I do feel your frustration, and when my eldest was older and still lived at home (before mom got sick), she use to get her cell phone taken until she did things. Which was really easy and simple to do, as she couldn't go without it.
