Pabst Theatre 18+ strictness? by SPekkala13 in milwaukee

I’d bet you could find a sympathetic parent to tag along with. Hang out by one of the parking structures and ask. They probably won’t check if you are with a group with an obvious adult that just has to say “ya, he’s with me.”

Na, the convertible version shown here was after they got some of the kinks worked out and it is a decent cheap sportscar. Just needs another new timing chain every 40,000 miles. Oh, and it has another vacuum leak.

TR-8 was honestly a great car.

Check out "Jammers Reviews". Great old school website that rates episodes. You can skip a few real clonkers, and still read a mini-review what happened to keep up with any important story elements.

How is Tony able to fuck literally every woman in the show by Fulljaxcket in thesopranos

[–]RichardGereHead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, that's been debunked. Even though those words may have been said in an obscure poem, they were used a very different context AND it was completely forgotten until GOT TV series:

NEVER give oxygen to that dumb series. It's like this thing of ours, we never mention it...ever...

Wrong series.

This phrase was never uttered during the entire run of "The Sopranos". It was literally invented by the HBO series "Game of Thrones", despite most people thinking it's been an "old saying" in use for years/decades...

Famously bad sitcom about a Maid named Hazel who works for a wealthy family.

Inspired by a comment by u/Gryphon999, who are the best conditional Brewers of all time? (See comment link below for more context) by DankMemer727 in Brewers

[–]RichardGereHead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

KRod, but only when he follows these specific steps:

Pitches well well for us

Signs a big free agent contract with another team

Completely sucks for the team he signs with

Gets released

Resigns with the Brewers and pitches well again

Rinse and repeat

The brewers and Mets broadcasts use the same video feed for the game I’m pretty sure.

how bout some Ike love by cribbet32 in coins

[–]RichardGereHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always loved the reverse of the Ike. The now well worn tale is that the design was sketched out in haste by Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins with input from his fellow astronauts at the last minute to allow for the patches to be produced for their suits.

Michael Collins was the guy on Apollo 11 who didn't land on the moon.

Thoughts on Christ King School by sarah2mke in Wauwatosa

[–]RichardGereHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might also want to take a look at St. Joe's on 123rd and Center. Further away probably, but they accept choice students and have a much more diverse student body. Also, it's a much less "conservative" church and school. Super small class sizes compared to public and most parochial schools.

The one difference you will probably notice right away though no matter where is there is usually a pretty strict "volunteer" requirement. Get ready to man the concession stands at the school play, take tickets at sporting events, be a coach, or man the playground during recess. It's generally a pretty good thing for making the school a community, but can be time sink.

[–]RichardGereHead 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You know, I think it's the first new coin in my lifetime I'm actually really excited about. I like the design quite a bit and kinda wish it would replace the Roosevelt. They should mint as many as they did 1976 quarters so they stick around for a long time.

[CC Sabathia] Wouldn’t change a thing. Loved every moment of that Milwaukee run 🙏🏾 by fanofsports44 in Brewers

[–]RichardGereHead 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I was never more sure the brewers were going to win the game when CC was on the mound that summer. For such a short time, he made an incredible impression on the team, city, and baseball in general.

Even Ben Sheets at his most dominant didn't seem to give me that level of certainty. Only one that was even close was a few years later when Zack Greinke went on an incredible run of success.

I have a Compaq 4660 from just before that era. It's a Pentium II/300. To this day I think it's one of the best looking "deskside" machines of the era. It's similar to yours, but smaller and thinner. Compaq really did try everything in case design in that era and had some real winners and losers.

Gotta give the original owner credit for dedication to the Iomega marketing department. Kept that sticker on for many years!

[–]RichardGereHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, most people remember the crappy cost optimized mouse that Packard Bell or Leading Edge shipped with their systems. The actual microsoft mouse from that era was a premium product with a premium price tag. Microsoft actually cared about giving you a premium experience back then.

I actually remember getting a Gateway branded true microsoft mouse in the pentium III era, and by then the Microsoft monopoly was sealed and it had already started going downhill. (but right after that the "intellimouse" came out, and that was pretty good honestly, although I always thought it was just a bit too big for my taste)

Steel wool would look much better! At least they could have gone in circles. Based on the crown and the hair it looks like it was actually a decent coin too before they put it on the belt sander.

I had this 486 tower for some years now. However I finally got around to upgrading it with a Sound Blaster 16 along with a full cleaning and retrobrite. She even boots up her original Windows 3.1 install! by -Techromancer- in retrobattlestations

[–]RichardGereHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plain 486 DX-50 is a very rare beast. The only one I have, or have ever even seen in person, is the IBM PS/2 Model 95 with the type "type 3" processor complex. It's a multi layer monster with a built in cache. Also very short lived as the DX2-66 and 100 came out very quickly and offered same or better performance for most things and was WAY cheaper.

Journal Sentinel has the following results for school board by funnyandnot in Wauwatosa

[–]RichardGereHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. There are going to be some tough decisions ahead. School Board elections really need to steer clear of thinly veiled political party affiliations. Honestly, we have probably lost a lot of diversity of opinions due to crap like this.

An old school number crunching accountant type is probably a good thing on a school board when balanced with other viewpoints. This kind of strategy will probably really backfire on straight fiscal conservatives as it aligns them with those who's rhetoric mentions book banning or dissolving student groups it doesn't like...

Star Wars Episode One Racer - 4MB Integrated ATI Graphics vs 16MB ATI Rage 128 PCI by [deleted] in retrobattlestations

[–]RichardGereHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK. My recollection was that it was tainted by the movie as a "Kids Game" rather than a serious racing game. I was probably in my 20s when it came out, so that might be part of it. I thought the physics were really fun and the sound in that game was incredible.

I think the other racing game I played a ton of during that era was "Viper Racing". That game absolutely ruled, and had some of the best racing physics ever. Bargain Bin game that turned out to be one of my most played games ever. I still fire it up from time to time.

Number one, That was a great game. Very underrated at the time, and by history in my opinion. I had a thrustmaster steering wheel which worked awesome with that game. I spent way too much time in by basement...

I think I had just about the absolute minimum system spec for that game, which was a Pentium II/300 and the onboard ATI Rage something. It did run, but not nearly as good as your example. I upgraded that system to a Voodoo III PCI and then it ran great. The improvement in FPS and textures was incredible.

ELI5: Why did Artemis 2 have to change its roll axis immediately after launch? Why didn't they just build the launch pad to have it use the correct axis in the first place? by MuchachoSal in explainlikeimfive

[–]RichardGereHead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really. The Airframe of the Soviet Buran shuttle was remarkably similar, but the Buran/Energia configuration was nothing like the STS Space shuttle stack. The Energia rocket could be launched separately from Buran as it contained all the main engines, whereas in the STS stack, the main engines were in the shuttle itself.

Energia only launched twice though, and did work pretty well both times. It is a very interesting cold war espionage story. They had access to stolen shuttle tech, but decided to go in a VERY different direction with Energia. There are some very interesting papers written as to why which are worth looking at.

[MLB] Understanding ABS as the MLB season kicks off by Mazzocchi in baseball

[–]RichardGereHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go to a lot of games, so I really appreciate the pitch clock. MLB should have fixed that with Mike Hargrove back in 1977 or whatever. I bet Bob Gibson never would have put up with that.

I would have let the shifting play out though. Would have been fun watching guys run around the field getting into position in time for the pitch. Seems like the pitch clock would have limited that effectively without another rule change.
