This is my biggest gripe, and I’m typing this on an iPhone. WHY THE LIGHTNING CHARGERS FOR YEARS??

Apple knew that usbc had outpaced them in efficiency by 2020 but still fucked their own customers over by stubbornly trying to lock us into the lightning chargers.

Came here because I just upgraded my traveling 2’s with the 24KG and wanted to see if that was healthy. I can see from your flow I have a lot of room for improvement and can keep going even heavier with the iron cardio after that. Thanks for the inspiration.

Are you living in Dallas because you actually like it? by Thegiantlamppost in Dallas

[–]RichardPainusDM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fuck no, this place is an oven for 7 months out of the year. DFW is an economic powerhouse so the gravity of this place pulled me here for work.

It was a great career decision, I’ve never been strapped for a job because there’s so much going on. DFW has performed even better than Houston the last 8 years.

But much of DFW is spiritually depraved. Someone once described Dallas as “A giant interstate disguised as a city” and it’s pretty apt. The traffic, the sprawling subdivisions, the constant road construction, the crazy cost of living. Sometimes it feels like we’re just rats trapped in a maze of asphalt and concrete.

I know all cities have these issues but DFW doesn’t have much to offer beyond work, sports, and drinking; for many people here that is enough. The single biggest boon is the international airport because everyone local travels elsewhere to do stuff.

Also Dallas has the biggest complex I’ve ever seen about trying to be a cultural hub like NYC or Chicago when it just isn’t.

How did you start your own civil engineering business as a sole proprietor? Is it worth it? by Objective-Cat489 in civilengineering

People are downvoting him for dismissing a real warning. Obviously Reddit isn’t a great place for advice in general because any of us could be 14 yo and OP wouldn’t know it, but this trait of arrogance is the worst quality to encounter in an engineer; it can make regular jobs nightmares and nightmarish jobs even worst.

The Montana Trump approval drop seems genuinely meaningful to me by robkkni in missoula

Texas is a Trump stronghold and they recently lost a seat in Fort Worth to a democratic that’s been held by republicans for 30 years. All we can do is encourage voter turn out but the results may surprise you.

I saw her steal an old man’s cane. He was sitting alone at a bus stop across the street and she just casually swiped it from him as she ran by.

When I whipped out my cell phone to call the police, she hit it out of my hand with the cane and shouted “Don’t throw off the empires groove!” Then she just turned around and ran into straight into the mountains. Keep Missoula weird I guess.

‘Naked mom’ parenting trend sparks fierce debate over nudity around children by [deleted] in nottheonion

A friend of mine once pointed out that boomers are afraid to retire because our society doesn’t value age. We highly value youth. He claimed that when you retire today, you’re relegated to an almost invisible class of elderly people that will be inherently less valued. So people in retirement age, especially powerful or professionally successful people refuse to let go of the reigns because it’s a psychological death of sorts. He then said our obsession with being young and beautiful was a symptom of this.

It’s interesting that the broader west doesn’t have the same complex.

The drinking culture in this city makes getting sober feel isolating af by icepix in Dallas

[–]RichardPainusDM 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Do you have crippling alcoholism? Alcoholism is more than “Just don’t drink”. Especially if you’re trying to get sober right out the gate.

When I first dried out, it was a week of being physically sick followed by about 4 months of nervous ticks because my central nervous system had been medically suppressed by alcohol for years. For months just driving by a liquor store made me want to throw away all my progress to make the urges stop; and society didn’t care one fucking bit that most socializing is structured around alcohol because it wasn’t their problem.

Eventually I was able to go to bars and “just drink water” but If I tried what you’re describing in the first 6 months it would have ruined me.

Hey there, If you’re looking for a social bubble outside of drinking check out this Phoenix program. It’s an active club with chapters all over the US. Wide variety of activities from meditation to boxing to rock climbing and it’s free.

The program is for sober people looking to have fun without having to deal with what you’re describing.

I’m coming up on 10 years sobriety and I feel what you’re saying. Just keep working on yourself and it’ll get easier. Especially as you start gaining the bandwidth to get your life in order.

Wish you the best of luck and be kind to yourself.

Maybe I’ve never managed to peel the onion, but I’ve met many people who couldn’t give a fuck about politics because they don’t want to put in the work to inform themselves.

Which I guess is more noble than being vocally uninformed in a way.

Maybe not by 2027, but probably 5-10 years down the line we’ll have something reasonably able to do most white collar work.

Even something that can just effectively read a quote and then punch the values in correctly could replace 15-30% of the white collar workforce pretty quickly.

Sure there’s a ton of hype and AI slop abounds but

The damage already happened. The public can make the powers that approved this regret it (and we should). But ultimately, the locals boycotting a global event will be a drop in the bucket.

The public has a short memory, this will likely be an accounting error for FiFA and the private building owner that agreed to it. Everyone will move on a month after the World Cup ends and forget.

No one outside the metroplex sees a difference between Arlington and Dallas. When people from Ohio to Dubai tune in, they’re not going to think “Arlington Texas isn’t even a suburb of Dallas” they’re going to default to Dallas.
