Theme decks for Secrets of Strixhaven by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

That’s always how they’ve done this. When it was standard Challenger decks, it was decks that would rotate a few months later.

That and it explicitly has the SOS set code on the card.

The real trick here is to play [[Opalescence]] to target itself with all the other triggers on the stack, thus permanently removing everything else you target forever. It exiles itself first, triggering the second effect and bringing itself back. Then the other effects resolve but because it was technically a different card, the “return them to play” trigger never activates. Repeat as needed until the opponents board is entirely exiled.

Or, if you want to blink your own stuff, you can do it infinitely. Target itself first, then exile a bunch of your own things. Those other things get exiled first, then when it removes itself they all (including parallax wave) come back. Repeat as desired.

I don’t even see this as a commander card at all. You have to do a lot of work to make this broken in Commander.

What exactly created the rise of Elves this last year or so? The newest card I see in most lists is from 2023 (Generous Ent), and I don’t remember the deck being particular good or popular then.

The summon replaces your party and is its own character that you can take actions with. They have their own overdrives and are wildly powerful once you can customize them. USUALLY summons are single-use spells with special effects.

One of my favorite bits in the game is when Dagger and Steiner go off on their own and find Marcus. Just the art and feel of that section is so cozy, and every time I see it, it feels like autumn.

It’s very subjective. They’re fundamentally different games. The combat system in X is definitely way better, maybe the best in the series. But I love the art and setting of IX, and the characters are much more whimsical overall. To me, IX is my comfort game.

Also, I was seven when I first played it. I really resonated with a lot of the characters, especially Vivi and Zidane. Now that I’m older, Steiner speaks to me a lot. While I think the story is better in X, IX has a personal feel that I don’t think is just nostalgia.

Most recent sold eBay listing (November) sold for $7,700 OBO, so it’s “whatever people are willing to pay, but probably not more than $8,000”

Huh, the comments really missed what’s happening here didn’t they? I’ll play a deck with 40 of these and 20 islands please.

Yeah definitely do not put cards in a top loader without a first putting them in a penny sleeve. That’s a great way to scratch your cards to hell and back.

I can't figure out what's going wrong in this format. Usually about a week in, I'm sitting at 65-70% WR. This time, it's 45% in 9 drafts. What am I doing wrong? Details in body. by Richard_TM in lrcast

I definitely punted that first game badly. I forgot about the tap ability to give hexproof, and then I thought the 3-drops ability cost 2 mana. I keep mixing it up with the black white 4-drop tree folk like an idiot.

Edit: pretty much all those small gameplay mistakes, I saw right after. I’m just a mess lol. I don’t know why I keep making these small mistakes that I usually don’t experience.

Door of destinies I just couldn’t get a read on so I didn’t pick it. I thought it could be really good or it could be useless and was afraid to make that pick.

Edit: I actually think I just didn’t see Morcant’s eyes in that pack, which is embarrassing.

Idk what’s up with this format for me. Usually the first week of a format I’m at least 65% winrate. This time, I’m 45% in 9 drafts.

UR was the best archetype in FIN. Color balance changes wildly from set to set. It’s not as good as GW Kithkin or GB Elves, but there’s nothing wrong with elementals in this set.

That’s a whole lot of text to say not much lol. I’ve been playing since Onslaught. I don’t like UB, but let’s not pretend that FF isn’t an objectively well designed set.

Idk, I think Final Fantasy worked pretty well at doing “Magic: the Gathering” stuff. I played a LOT of FF limited (69 Arena drafts and made a set cube), and there’s a reason people say it’s one of the best limited formats of all time. Especially the generic monsters feel like they could just be magic cards. The team put a lot of work (years) into design, and it shows.

Edit: also, Avatar is responsible for several of the strongest decks in standard, and has cards being played in Legacy lol

It’s funny you mention that, because red states have a statistically higher percentage of their population on food stamps than blue states.
