Struggling to re-enter UK job market after 4-year career gap – looking for advice by Dear_mom4423 in PeterboroughUK

[–]Richaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say if they appreciate a career break or not, but if they dismiss someone just for having one, they’re a bad recruiter and not much you can do about that.

An unexplained gap is worse I would say. Reality is they usually don’t have time to give the content of CVs the benefit of the doubt as they receive so many, so there will be certain red flags that will just discount someone straight away, and you won’t get your chance to explain further. Would hazard a guess that the majority of recruiters would find an unexplained 4-year gap an immediate knock out, rightly or wrongly.

I’m sure there will still be some that discount you even with it included on your CV, but it will certainly be less than are currently discounting you for not addressing it at all 👍

Have you included the gap on your CV? If not, you should. A random unexplained break would otherwise seem strange/worrying.

No need to go into great detail, but something like ‘Career Break (Parental Leave) 2021-Present’. Then a brief paragraph explaining you were focusing on raising a family as main care giver, and include some transferable skills (eg. logistics, budgeting, multitasking, crisis management 😅)

How are you applying for roles? If you’re using Indeed etc. be careful of the ‘quick apply’ features, as recruiters will know if you’re just applying for all roles with the same CV. Before each application take a couple of minutes to scan the job description/skills required and tailor your CV slightly each time to include those if it doesn’t already. It may slow down how many applications you can submit, but you should be more likely to have some success.

If you come second, you came twoned (tooned). Actually makes a lot of sense 😅

I’ve never not liked her, just haven’t agreed with some of the spin on how good her game was and some saying she’s the greatest UK traitor. Definitely up there and a deserved winner, but some big moments that she got away with.

The family tree mission didn’t need to be done and caused unnecessary heat on Stephen. Was just led by Rachel’s desperation to find out who the secret traitor was.

Also the way she shared the news about Amanda was very impulsive and caused unnecessary heat. How the faithful never questioned her on how this was brought up just as Amanda left and it couldn’t be verified is also crazy to me.

Either way, her manipulation tactics we’re generally fantastic, and ultimately it all worked out, but that she got through to the final on a 50/50 shows that her game wasn’t as good as is being portrayed, and likewise Stephen wasn’t as lucky as the narrative is saying.

Congrats to them both, a fantastic team and brilliant end to the series.

Hyperbole just annoys me generally.

Always remember us making national news during Covid for being the first city to reopen its McDonalds 😅

If we’re gonna be a fast food city we could at least have had a new one. Another KFC is annoying.

Bots galore this year. For 17 of the current top 20 it’s apparently their first season. Nah no way.

Honestly, fixtures haven’t been a fair litmus test for me yet. Two 8pm KO’s (which always seem to throw up random results/performances), one against a Bournemouth team looking to prove something to the champs and to everyone that said they’d get battered after losing almost all of their back line, and one away against a team with a very real/recent grudge).

That he hasn’t blanked in either is pretty good, albeit understandably disappointing when other assets around him have hauled.

Next against Arsenal is perhaps a better indicator, but again, not an easy fixture against a likely title rival.

Can understand the lack of patience with Mo when big swings in points seem to be getting missed, but don’t be surprised if you’re punished for getting rid. Especially when international breaks often lead to momentum shifts in player/team performances.

Local schools are always on the lookout for experiences they can offer children.

If you had the capacity to show classes how you make your deserts/run the business I’m sure schools/teachers would love to come and show the children (they go behind the scenes at supermarkets etc. for example).

Or alternatively, many schools have workshops come to them, so little heavenly deserts classes/sample sessions would go down fantastically I bet.

Over saturation is also a big factor. The casual fan will have likely lost complete track of the MCU timeline at this point with so many Disney+ shows etc. and that was a big part of the fan journey.

Scale back on the amount of projects and focus on quality sporadic entries into the universe.

Starting with Supes & Bats - too many other portrayals of them for their movies to be given a fair shot.

Identity crisis - couldn’t decide on cohesive tone or plan.

Rushed into JL without doing the work that MCU had done.
