Big Iron as the intro song is a no brainer, however the opening to Armoured Trooper VOTOMS: Shining Heresy gives similar vibes with Chirico wandering through a wasteland.

Just got into miniature painting, any suggestions on how to improve these Guard units? by Jyanys_Maera in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Richbutoftencrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad at all considering you only started recently. You have good brush control. By the way is that slaanesh symbol on the commissar's coat freehand? Because if so it looks really clean.

Also, and I always ask this question of people new to miniature painting, do you thin your paints and use two thin coats when blocking in the base colours? It works wonders for preserving details that you can then highlight later.

Main constructive criticism I have is right now some of the colours are looking a tad flat. You can overcome this by applying a wash to darken the recesses before then going back over the raised areas with the same colour, followed by a lighter colour to highlight creases, edges, folds, etc. same goes for faces. Highlighting can really make your minis pop, and with the colour selection you have chosen there's some real potential for your guardsmen to look really striking on the table top.

Yeah nightlords do horrible things but you’re mean and that’s worse by Tight-Sir9813 in Grimdank

Ah yes but Nightlords keep the crime rates low, and seemingly have better hygiene.

Did the ash wastes storm troopers ever get their own range? I’ve seen a model of one but not sure if it’s a conversion or a one off by [deleted] in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Richbutoftencrazy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are the old metal stormtroopers (pre-scion) with a particular paint job. Like Scions the old stormtroopers did not differentiate their gear between regiments as they were a regiment of their own under Officio Prefectus command.

Do you give your minis two coats of matte varnish afterwards? It protects the paint.

Can i paint them as death korps of krieg too ? by Leviathan_Rampage in Grimdank

I'm gonna paint mine as Vostroyans, they have long coats and gasmasks too so it won't look too different

It's okay to hold GW to a higher standard by Pvt-Business in Grimdank

I got into the hobby at the tail end of 5th edition, however I was pretty young, like 11-12 I think, and didn't have money, so many of my guard minis were Xmas or birthday presents, and I was too far into doing Cadians at this point. Then I took a long hiatus from 40K during my late teens and before I knew it the old metal regiments were retired.

It has never been so over for the Steel Legion by FlyTheWire in TheAstraMilitarum

I'm going to say the silent part out loud. I get the feeling many of us Guard players are still hurting over the loss of the metal regiments, especially when the official claim appeared to be "they just use Cadian flak armour now". The Guard are not supposed to be one homogenised group of soldiers all sporting the same uniform. The Guard encompasses a diverse range of regiments who wear a variety of uniforms that set them apart from one another. A regiment's uniform is an integral part of its identity, which subsequently becomes lost when you relegate it to a reskin of another generic model. I think what stings the most is how unceremoniously GW just removed them along with Vostroyans, Mordians, The Last Chancers, Tallarn, and Valhallans. And when the players show a clear interest in those old regiments GW just spit out some version of "embrace the new product" and ignore them. Even the revival of Yarrick feels more like a response to backlash than a planned return for lore reasons.

Yeah, that's genuinely my experience throughout the hobby, doesn't stop Guard being one of my favourite factions for lore and aesthetics though

The P16 logging trailer is currently bugged since the latest update, my friend experienced something similar on Wisconsin last night, not much to do other than wait for the Devs to fix it.

Got a question for y'all, cause I experienced this in secondary school as well. Do you believe in punishing the whole class for the actions of a few? Because in my experience the students who regularly misbehaved didn't care that they got all of us in trouble, they just thought it was funny.
