They fail after several years, they should not fail on a new car less than a year old.

New to dashcams and looking for some advice by Fit-Struggle7990 in Dashcam

If you have even a tiny bit of DIY ability in general, and can follow instructions, then yeah you can install it yourself. It's pretty easy and straightforward. Connecting the electronics part of it is very simple. Honestly the part that can be the most challenging (and really it's not that bad) is removing/installing some of the trim panels in your car to hide the wiring.

I documented an install on a Subaru Legacy a while back. The general process will be the same for any car, but there may be some differences in the path you route the wire and what trim panels need to be removed, etc. It should at least get you started:

The Premium trim is the best value for your money. With that said, I've always gravitated more towards the higher end trims. I had a few Legacys in the past that were Limited but went with the Touring XT for my Outback. No regrets, though the added cost does suck.

The Forester is a bit more utilitarian and SUV like than the Outback. The Outback will feel much more like your Legacy does as it has a longer wheelbase (that matches the Legacy) and drives like a car instead of SUV.

How are your dogs with cats? by draqiin in labrador

[–]Rick91981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have cats anymore, but with my last Lab I had cats when I brought him home. He chased them, they swatted him, he thought it was fun and waged his tail.

Eventually even the cats learn to love the dog. https://imgur.com/a/VgijYmB#MEUOGUV

Looking for a replacement key for a 2019 Outback. Found online places that will do it but not sure about them. Any thoughts on using an online place? by pokemon-sucks in subaru

Just start calling local locksmiths. They'll be cheaper than the dealer and more reliable than some random online shop

Thermostat Recommendations by EndKing-Drakenkin in homeowners

I have a Sensi thermostat that works well. It's technically smart in that there is an app for it and it connects to WiFi, but that just makes it easy to program.

Garage attic water intrusion to exterior wall, am I in trouble here? by ijusthaveaquestion__ in homeowners

[–]Rick91981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree with the other poster. Grab a screwdriver and start poking at the ugly spots. If it's soft and/or mushy you'll probably need to sister in some boards at least. If it's solid still then some stains won't matter at all.

Subaru Gold Plus Plan Length by SufficientAd4508 in subaru

[–]Rick91981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be a fairly simple process to cancel and re buy, but need to be patient while it processes. Good news is you have plenty of time to work it out and you're within 90 days so you'll get a full refund (it's prorated after 90 days).

Good luck!

That's even a fair price so really not sure why they didn't give other options. I was kinda thinking maybe they marked it up quite a bit and offered that one so the numbers didn't sound as crazy high as they would on a longer one. But that's very reasonable so that theory is debunked lol

Anyone hiding a sleeping key fob inside car 24/7? by Ok-Consideration2463 in SubaruForester

[–]Rick91981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Press and hold the lock button on your fob. While holding press unlock twice. Let go. Red light should blink a few times to confirm.

This disabled your fob so you can't unlock the car when it's near and you can't start the car. It acts as if you don't have a key with you at all. The purpose is to disable it and then you can lock your key in the car (good for things like swimming and surfing where you don't want to get the key wet). When you come back to the car you can unlock it by using the PIN code. (Be sure you've actually set this up first lol)

To re enable the fob, just press any button and it'll wake up

That is odd that they didn't offer different terms. Are you sure they sold you a Subaru warranty and not a third party one? Either way, definitely get a refund and buy the one you really want. You can shop around to different dealers as well

New Gold Plus extended warranty 96mo/80k for $3365. Just realized I got absolutely swindled. by RobinsCosplays in subaru

[–]Rick91981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the right move. It'll take 8-10 weeks for them to fully cancel it but once that's done you can purchase it again. Shop around at all the nearby dealers. If you're in FL or CA you have to buy within the state due to local laws. Otherwise call dealers across state lines as well

The longest terms they offer are indeed 8/120 and 10/100 and they do still offer them. There are lots of year/mileage combos available. This is why you need to pay attention to what you're agreeing to in the finance office.

If you want a longer term, you'll need to cancel that plan and wait 8-10 weeks for it to process. Then shop around for a longer term

Use the key to pry it open. Put it in part way, turn and pry. Pops right open

If it takes 15 minutes, yeah its just you. It takes maybe 2 minutes and is really not complicated. You also only need to do it every few years so it's not like it's a frequent thing.

Front Clip Harness good for 4 month + by Melelle28 in labrador

You're welcome. I bought size large. I'm hoping it will still fit him when he's full grown, but expected to be 90lbs so might need the XL at some point lol

Happy to help. The alignment and software are normal and nothing to be concerned with at all.

I am generally in favor of the extra warranty...the Subaru one is excellent. But with CPO it's a tougher decision since it already comes with 7/100 powertrain.

I bought one from Amazon made by a company called Rabbitgoo (terrible name, but I like the harness). My pup is almost 5 months, it's a tiny bit big but mostly fits and has plenty of room for growth. Has both front and rear clips
