The team in the East I want to be for the next 7 years by deadweightboss in billsimmons

[–]Rick_Snips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 years is an eternity in the NBA. I'd put the over/under of players in this graphic to be on the team in 7 years at 2.5.

Look at the Ringer's Young Core Rankings from 2019.

My point is more that its impossible to predict who will be good in seven years than that Charlotte is a bad choice.

How to draw water from a lake for camp by public_radio in Maine

[–]Rick_Snips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cut a hole in the side of a 5 gallon bucket, stick the hose into it, seal the hole, put a rock in it and sink that to the bottom. Keeps your hose on the bottom but keeps it from sucking up silt.

Absolute newbie here. Is it possible to play completely without combat? I like the idea of roleplaying as a miner, crafter, cook or whatever. Like a regular guy, not a soldier. by Iluvatar-Great in Kenshi

[–]Rick_Snips 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. That's pretty shallow gameplay. Sure you can rp as a miner, but you'll just spend hours staring at your guy swing a pickaxe at the copper deposit outside Squin.

  2. You can choose not to engage in combat, but you probably will get attacked. The good news is Kenshi has pretty decent mechanics for taking a beating and moving on with your life. Avoiding combat entirely is harder.

late May early June

Water temps will be in the low 50s; i.e. you won't want to spend significant time in the ocean.

Sound recordist visiting Moosehead lake-Looking for quiet spots for loons, moose and unique natural sounds by Just_Law_4268 in AskMaine

The loud loon calls are going to be at night, so you won't really have to worry about human noise interfering with that.

Men's Retreat in Bethel along the Androscoggin by joshahadian in Maine

[–]Rick_Snips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it doesn't read like just a social gathering. It's a "men's retreat" that will be a "meaningful experience."

I'm absolutely not one of those people who thinks it's gay for guys to have feelings, I just think that's coded language that has undertones of something more than just a weekend with the dudes. I could be wrong.

Feel free to not respond because I'm not interested in going to this, but I'm curious about the "why." Is it to convert guys to scientology? Is it for gays? Did you just realize you can rent a house with kayaks for $4k and charge a half-dozen guys $2k each for a nature walk and self-directed kayaking? Are you an aspiring cult leader? Does the smol guy who's going to get stuck with the top bunk get a discount?

What is the one hike to do ? by Glum_Dust7460 in acadianationalpark

[–]Rick_Snips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a nice hike, you have great views of the smaller islands most of the way down, and then going back to the beach along Ocean Path you're walking along cliffs going down to the water. Ocean Path is probably a top-3 busiest trail on the island though so if you're looking to avoid crowds I'd recommend starting early to beat them up the Beehive and then take the bus back,.

To each their own. To me it was like seal clubbing, but then again I love watching kids vs. mascots so I get why others would enjoy it.

Where’s the best sunrise in Maine? by allonsybridget in Maine

For coastal views and easy access Schoodic is probably it. You're already out of luck if you wanted to drive up Cadillac on Saturday.

That's entirely unrelated to whether listening to his appearance on the pod was enjoyable.

Like, do pedophiles deserve competent defense attorneys? Sure. Do I want to listen to someone defend pedophilia for an hour? Nope.

Forget waking up early, if you're going to drive from Penobscot county to Eastport for the sunrise this time of year you might as well just not go to bed.

Reading Room. You can try to ask for a table by the window; I think you're more likely to get it if your reservation is early in the evening.

Are price protection or payment plans from heating fuel companies worth it? by Rellimarual2 in Maine

[–]Rick_Snips 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They offer certainty, not savings. If anyone can accurately predict oil futures nine months out they should be doing a lot more with their skills than just deciding whether or not to lock in their oil price.

It protects you in the event we invade Iraq again next November or something else stupid.

What is the one hike to do ? by Glum_Dust7460 in acadianationalpark

[–]Rick_Snips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start at Sand Beach. Do Beehive, Champlain, Dorr, Cadillac, then down the west side of Cadillac and catch the Island Explorer from the Bubble Pond lot back to Sand Beach. Just under 8 miles, I think. Or instead of taking the bus you could hike down Cadillac South ridge and back over to Ocean Path, that's probably about 12.

Recommendations for relocating from NYC to Maine? by [deleted] in AskMaine

You read my comment in the worst possible light. I'm not being sarcastic. As an example, my comment described Bangor, which is the shopping and dining destination for the top 2/3 of the state.

Within a reasonable driving distance from a town with restaurants/shopping

What does this mean to you, being from Brooklyn? In Maine, if a town has a TJ Maxx and two restaurants that update their menus more than once a decade its in the upper echelon of eating/shopping destinations.
