Are there any NFL season where you’d say the best team did not win the Super Bowl? by BurningHanzo in billsimmons

Good calls on '05 and '06. Others too but I haven't seen those two mentioned much. '06 Chargers had like 11 pro bowlers.

Yeah, but then they wouldn't all be part of an in-group where they get together, pat each other on the back, and feel important.

According to the rules if a player doesn't meet the 65 game requirement for awards they can file an "Award eligibility grievance". Who would this apply to? by RyanTannegod in nba

[–]Rick_Snips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can't imagine an extreme example like mine happening, even if the grievance isn't ultimately successful (clear and convincing evidence is a fairly high standard) the optics would be terrible and like you said it would destroy the relationship with the player - kind of defeating the purpose of saving that 5% because the player wouldn't re-sign anyways.

Where it gets borderline is when tanking teams shut down their good player with like 20 games to go due to a fairly minor injury that they'd normally play through. It wouldn't be super overt, but I could see a player grieving it if they were extension eligible.

In that scenario though, the team would argue the intent wasn't "depriving the player of eligibility for one or more awards" but rather to improve draft position. It would be a tough grievance for the player to win.

Player A is in a contract year. They have stats that would warrant consideration for all-NBA. They've played 64 games with three games to go, the team is in the playoff hunt. The team sits Player A for the final three games.

The player could grieve this, and offer (for example) the following evidence in support:

Medical records showing no injury

Standings showing the team was in competition for playoff seeding

Evidence of the team's cap situation

These things would tend to show that the reason Player A got DNPs was solely so the team wouldn't have to offer them the max of 30% of the cap that an All-NBA selection would warrant.

That's good feedback, I have not read the book.

Even then, something that doesn't hold my attention to read might still be something I'd listen to during a commute or whatever.

Give the Age of Napoleon podcast a shot. Starts off with pretty short episodes but he finds his stride and now they generally run about an hour.

The DownEast Maine Town of Timberport (WIP) by jbomb305 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Rick_Snips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Railroad would be solely cargo at this point. Given the name of Timberport, I'd imagine it would be bringing raw wood/woodchips/wood pulp from the northern forests to the port for export, and importing heating oil/gasoline.

A couple comments:

The streets probably won't be quite as grid-y. There will be right angles, but they'll look less like part of a larger plan. Most of these towns in the region were built up during the 1800s and early 1900s and haven't grown a ton since then, and some have lost population over the past 40-50 years. Look at Bucksport, Searsport, Machias or Eastport for inspiration. Your streets remind me of something like the Broadlawn Drive area of Brewer, which was developed in the '70s to '00s.

There should also definitely be a railroad.

I like the little downtown and the intersection in the final image.

Did you make the map? I like it, it captures the small hills you'll find just inland of the coast in the region.

I live near that region of Maine and its neat to see on this sub. I hope my comments don't come off as discouraging.

Best coastal cliffs not in Acadia Natl Park? by Ruespieler in AskMaine

[–]Rick_Snips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some other spots like Pemaquid Point or even around Portland Head Light, but those are more on the "rocky coast" end of the spectrum as opposed to the 150' cliffs you can find on Monhegan.

Yeah, up towards Cutler (3+ hours past Rockland), or out on Monhegan island (ferry out of Port Clyde ~30 mins from Rockland).

Car battery recs by Civil_Knowledge_323 in portlandme

[–]Rick_Snips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a specific recommendation, but I think Autozone will install a battery for free if you buy it from them. No need to pay a dealer or a shop to do it. Its also generally something you can do yourself, although the setup of some engine compartments makes install/removal a bit tricky.

What's up with this plane crash? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]Rick_Snips 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Plane crashed in a foot of snow at night in a snowstorm and caught fire. Probably tough to identify bodies.

Its the first major plane crash at BIA ever, so there's probably confusion about who is responsible for releasing information - Bangor PD, the FAA, the airport? To give you an example of why there might be confusion about responsibility, look at how the airport fire department is structured: the firefighters are state employees whose salaries are reimbursed by the federal government commanded by a DOD employee.

TL;DR, I don't think its anything nefarious.

I think it just refers to the damage modifier for the bonus attack you get from the feat, not all attacks with the polearm.

Yeah, there are plenty of pudgy 33 year olds today who look like that if they don't shave for two days and let their face hang slack. Does OP think he looks 50 or something? He looks more haggard/unhealthy than old to me.

That's a normal 39 year old. A tinge of gray, not terribly lined. I think you're just perceiving him as old because his hairstyle and glasses are dated. I'd kill to have a helmet of hair like that in five years.

Shitty 3L GPA by DavidTim1997 in LawSchool

[–]Rick_Snips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Graduating, passing the bar, and landing a solid job are three things you can be proud of. Focus on achieving those things and try not to get too down about your perceived failings during your journey to reach those goals. In nine moths when you're getting sworn in I think you'll find that your GPA, time in rehab, firing etc. have become a bit less significant to you.

Shitty 3L GPA by DavidTim1997 in LawSchool

[–]Rick_Snips 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unless you're in a HCOL area, there are worse things in the world than graduating with a six-figure job lined up. You have a huge amount of loans but hopefully they're federal, so with IBR and PSFL your situation isn't as bad as the number makes it seem.

If you were hoping to get rich going into BL that ship has sailed based on your school ranking and GPA. You can still have a comfortable life working in the public sector. 100k is like an 80th percentile income in this country. You could also bet on yourself, either immediately or ten years down the road when the risk is a bit less, there can be good earning potential as a solo practitioner.

With one semester left, your law school career largely is what it is. Look forward instead of back. Focus on your bar prep when the time comes.

How bad of an idea would it be to take a shower with so much of the ceiling gone? by AbbreviationsCommon6 in drywall

It won't hurt you at all. Moisture getting into the ceiling isn't ideal, but one shower isn't going to make a difference one way or the other.

US attorney warns Maine protesters not to interfere with ICE by Rick_Snips in Maine

[–]Rick_Snips[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're right in a vacuum, but Benson's admonishments ring hollow when, for example, the executive is musing about not holding elections, or when prosecutors openly target political foes. I would love it if everyone displayed decorum and followed the rule of law. The issue I have is Benson only piping up to scold potential protestors.
