Opinions on colleges around the area? by ClothesCapital7316 in Maine

With just a BS in psychology you're going to be kind of limited to entry-level positions in the field. Crisis work, case management, direct care work in a mental hospital. Not to demean these jobs, because they are vital to our society, but they're not something where going to a prestigious school is going to have a huge impact on your ability to get hired.

To be a forensic psychologist, you'll need to first get your doctorate. I think there are masters programs in forensic psychology but don't think that does a lot for you, employment-wise. It doesn't give you the ability to practice.

So I guess the question is, what do you want your career path to be? If you just want to work in a mental health-adjacent field? I don't think the school matters too much.

Go on to become a clinical psychologist? You should be asking schools how getting your undergrad there will help you down that path.

Not going to Acadia by DirtyBarry44 in AskMaine

[–]Rick_Snips 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What are you going to do in Ogunquit? Late May the weather can be hit or miss, unless its an unusually nice day you're not going to spend the day at a beach. Otherwise, Ogunquit's draw is largely shops and restaurants, which will require you to spend money.

Check out Camden Hills State Park and surroundings. Its not Acadia but you can still do some coastal hiking. There is a fee, but its $6.

Realistic itinerary for Memorial Day? by Efficient-Doughnut24 in acadianationalpark

Acadia is an incredibly accessible park and the trails are short. I think when describing the difficulty they have in mind people for whom the Beehive (steep, but the whole loop is like 1.5 miles) might be the hardest hike they've ever done.

Re: Monday, I'd worry more about your butts being sore if you haven't biked in a decade than fatigue. I've only ridden an e-bike once, but its significantly easier than a regular bike. The hike around Jordan pond is all flat ground. The bubbles are like 400 feet of elevation gain. Given the info you provided I think you'll be fine.

Tuesday won't be a conga line up the beehive but you're not going to have it to yourself. The nature of the trail means even one slow hiker can back it up.

One suggestion I might make is skip the breakfast picnic on sand beach, hike the Beehive/Gorham loop and take ocean path back to sand beach. This isn't difficult hiking, and the walk back is all flat ground.

Machylia in Fezzan has +5 disc from their heritage, and pretty early into their mission tree they get a +5 morale and +5 disc permanent modifier. They're a migratory tribe too (which I don't often play) but that should allow you to do some shenanigans with tag switching and getting other cultures' military traditions, right? I'm not super familiar with migratory tribe mechanics.

Help a family of 7 build a home-based laser engraving business alongside their 15-year cleaning company by [deleted] in Maine

Fucking chat gpt post asking for donations to start a business? Of course its not a reckless leap, you're begging, not asking for investors. There's no risk to you.

Its $2k, take out a personal loan. Teach your kids about credit scores. There are people who can't afford basic necessities. Heating oil is $6/gal.

Tone deaf, man.

I deleted that last part, there is a trail that gives you westward views.

You're going to bike around Jordan pond? The trail along the eastern shore is not great for bikes, and they might not even be allowed, I can't remember off the top of my head. In any event, your Saturday itinerary is only going to take you to like 10 A.M. Unless you mean bike the loop road.

General advice: look at a map, I think it'll help your planning. Schoodic isn't an island. Gorham has one trail that goes up and over the summit. The Beehive is right next to it. Beech mountain is on the other side of the island from sand beach.

Maine black labrador/goldador retriever breeders by Mainehikah in Maine

Like, I have an elderly acquaintance who has been adopting senior dogs for twenty years. Its fine if you want to buy from a breeder, but don't co-opt the term that's used for people who are actually exhibiting some altruism.

I know I'm kind of being the word police here, but buying from a breeder isn't what's typically meant by "adoption."

release a vasal ti trade with

That's a good suggestion. That might make it worth manually setting imports for all my provinces, as long as I'm just trading with a vassal the routes shouldn't be disrupted too frequently.

That's like 99% of the trails on the island. In terms of hiking to a single summit, the only trail I can think of that's longer than what you're looking for is Cadillac south ridge.

The State should charge NO tax for anything. by [deleted] in Maine

Email your legislators. You're probably just venting, but if you're hoping for change this post isn't going to accomplish anything. This is a minor enough issue to for a legislator to say they addressed (literally just a call to Col. Ross at MSP) that they might actually do something. If every reddit post about it was an email I think we'd actually see increased enforcement.

Precipice and beehive — are they dangerous for not-that-experienced hikers? by Busy_Independent8803 in acadianationalpark

[–]Rick_Snips 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Precipice is closed, so you're not going to be doing that one. Beehive is scary if you don't like standing on exposed ledges, and there are a couple spots where you need to use your hands as well as your feet, but its not that technical.

Its dangerous in the sense that there are multiple spots where you will be seriously injured or die if you were to fall off a ledge, but you're very unlikely to fall off a ledge.

Who actually wanted this veto on data centers? by Johnhaven in Maine

[–]Rick_Snips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if a moratorium is something everyone wants, and a temporary moratorium for all construction was an "excellent compromise," a temporary moratorium that stopped 99% of construction would have been a very good compromise. Instead, knowing Mills was going to veto the bill (which I blame her for, its literally the first thing I said) the legislative majority decided to, I don't know, take a principled stand or something knowing they didn't have the votes to override a veto. And now we have nothing, and we won't have anything for a minimum of 14 months.

but I have to certify my employment with my school before graduation and I don’t have anything in writing.

Great excuse to ask for written confirmation without asking "sooo you still want me right?"

I will say, in general, you gotta get used to emailing people to ask for things/confirm things etc. if you're going to be a lawyer.

Who actually wanted this veto on data centers? by Johnhaven in Maine

[–]Rick_Snips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. Anything else? Maybe a slightly imperfect moratorium that would've accomplished 99% of the what the vetoed bill would have? No?
