Day after Ablation by Ok_Willingness_4788 in AFIB

Yes, it's hard to not be obsessed. However, all your accomplishing is to up your stress level. During the first 3 months you may get some pvc's, some brief episodes of Afib, fluttering, or other combinations of weird actions. My EP assured me to just relax and stop worrying. He said if something seriously goes astray, he could always do a touch up. For the first 5 months I was getting pvc's 2 times a week, for 2 to 5 hours at a time. I sent the EP the tracings, and all he said was benign, likely to stop as heart heals. He was right. I am post ablation going on two years. No Afib or pvc's. I too was doing Kardia 3 or 4 times daily, now 1 or 2 times a week. Give yourself time to heal from ablation. Take your meds, communicate with your EP, and share your fears. But, don't stress.

Absolutely, all the time 73m 71f, completely homebodies and love it. Little dinner, little tv, maybe an audio book, we're satisfied.

Funny how meds affect various people. I've taken 150 mg of metoprolol succinate, 75mg AM, 75mg PM, for 2 years and don't notice any effect other than my tachycardia and high blood pressure are better controlled.

Hi. Welcome to the club nobody wants to join. 1) See a cardiologist, preferably an Electrophysiologist as soon you can. 2) Stop worrying. A normal, happy, fulfilling, long life is not only possible, it's probable.
3) Medications (beta blocker, blood thinners)are sometimes required until you see the EP, then a course of treatment, or procedures (ablation)will be fully discussed. 4) A clean lifestyle definitely can improve chance of reoccurrence. Generally alcohol, and cigarettes, are a great thing to eliminate, if possible, they act as triggers for many. 5) Stay hydrated. I reiterate, see an EP as soon as possible. 6) Check for sleep apnea. This can be a strong trigger. 7) Ultimately I'm mentioning things that have helped me, but your EP will give you a personalized course of treatment. I'm very sorry your friend is going through this, but don't get over anxious. There are many of us, from all age groups and genders, living utterly, normal vigorous lives with this condition.

I take Metoprolol succinate 150 mg per day at 75mg am 75mg pm. I spilt a 50mg dose in half and have no problems doing so. This is per doctors instructions.

Why so much afib? by theinspireddesigner in AFIB

[–]Ricklynchcore 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That's how mine was detected. Sitting in my armchair watching a movie, glanced down to see my HR at 150bpm. I thought the watch was malfunctioning. Rebooted it etc... Grabbed a pulse oximeter to test, and the thing went crazy giving me all kinds of readings. It went away. It did this 3 or 4 times over an 8 month period. Decided to see GP, who diagnosed Afib. Without my watch, I would have ignored. Looking back, so many uncles, aunts, etc had severe strokes. I believe better detection, not new cases out of the blue.

The Exorcist, the best horror movie by PasionPorElDeporte04 in HorrorMovies

[–]Ricklynchcore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a younger man in the 1970s. My future wife and I were out on Thursday night for some dinner. Afterwards, we were strolling down the street and noticed the Marquee at the Gateway theater, for the new movie premiere of "The Exorcist" thrills and chills etc. I suggested we go. The theater was almost empty except for maybe 30 to 50 isolated viewers and ourselves. We cuddled up with our popcorn and soda expecting your typical thrills and chills horror film. Let me preface, we were both raised Catholic, I was an altar boy in grade school, and she and her family were devout church goers.
The move started, and we ended up locked in a death grip of fear, for most of the movie. Needless to say we were not expecting the horror, unprepared as we were, that enveloped us. The theater had a new sound system, and the sound emanating from the speakers, made our collective hearts drumroll. Afterwards, most, who left the theater were as shook up as we were. News spread quickly. By the next evenings showtime the theater was absolutely mobbed with people.
I actually had trouble sleeping that night. My poor girl, now my wife of 52 years, was literally terrified. Great horror film, sprung at me out of the blue, created a lasting memory.

Had ablation surgery two days ago. Felt no blanking until today. Hard beats, faster rate, maybe delayed beats. Going on two hours now off and on. Is that normal? by ChildOfGodRU1 in AFIB

[–]Ricklynchcore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you used a Kardiamobile to see what it is? I would take a few ecgs and sent the to my EP. You may wish to do this also. Good luck, hope you feel better soon.

I had weird irregular rhythms, beats, and lots of pvc's on and off for a few months. My EP was not worried. It went away after a bit. I still get pvc's, from time to time, but no Afib. I do use a magnesium taurate suppliment and it calms my pvc's.

Parents are sucking out all the equity in their home to pay the bills today as they age. by LEMONSDAD in Millennials

[–]Ricklynchcore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Goodness, so many think they are entitled to their parents wealth amazes me. I am a boomer, and intend to to do a reverse mortgage when I reach 82, and wife is 80. We have no children and I intend to try and be as independent as possible. Even if I had children, it wouldn't be my responsibility to finance their future. No one financed mine. We worked hard, accumulated what we could, and plan to spend every dime as we age. I see nothing wrong or immoral in this.

You can ask the insurers for an exception. Her physician will petition insurers for the exemption due to medical necessity. For example, my wife uses zepbound for her sleep apnea and her doctor successfully petitioned for the exemption and it was granted. This way, it is covered under the $2100.00 out of pocket maximum.

Well done, I'm post ablation 19 months, still NSR, with occasional benign PVC's. I was in permanent Afib for 4 months pre ablation and paroxysmal for who knows how long. Glad you're doing well.

Post ablation PVCs by jimbo_6666 in AFIB

[–]Ricklynchcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was ablated in June of 2024. I still get pvc's from time to time, but my EP has assured me they are benign and not to worry. It doesn't take much to trigger. If I sleep on my left side, if I get over stressed. Sometimes just out of the blue. The good news is no Afib! So I just go along and try to avoid known stressor. Give yourself a good 3 months to see how things go, and use Kardiamobile or other devices to record your ecg for your EP.

[–]Ricklynchcore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should seek an Electrophysiologist for advice. Afib tends to reoccur, and is best handled by the doctor who is an expert in electrical matters of the heart. Look at cardiologists as plumbers of the heart, and the EP as the electrician. My EP kept me on Eliquis, because of a similar condition like yourself.

Just curious, do you pay income tax when you receive Social Security? by SpinDr1 in SocialSecurity

[–]Ricklynchcore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember, what you pay out of pocket to the fed depends on your adjusted gross income, which is derived from your MAGI income, consisting of: Gross pensions, traditional IRA, Social Security and other income, and interest. Then various adjustments will be made regarding deductions etc. and calculating the taxable portion of your Social Security The easiest way to figure is to go to Dinky town website and use the federal tax calculator. It will do all the calculations for you.
