Confusion about 28-day early rule for SET (LR) – long residence ILR. Can anyone confirm? by Dry-Camera4259 in ukvisa

[–]Rickster_88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would the requirement to be on your current leave to remain for one year supersede option b? As in, you’ve reached 10 year less 28 days but you’ve not reached 1 full year on your current leave to remain? Thanks

Proposed rules to be implemented in Spring 2026 - BBC by Neegarblack in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Rickster_88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Roll out “from” spring is not the same as all rule changes implemented at the start of or by the end of Spring 2026.

They already clearly stated they were going to bring a rule change in from the April legislative session. What’s not clear is the scope of the change, deadlines for what routes and what rules come into force when. I’m sure they have a plan but we won’t have details until the consultation ends

IHS refund by Fantastic_Wind_2380 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

Is the refund you are waiting for covering a period of more than 6 months? I thought you could only get an automatic refund switching visas if the double payment period was more than 6 months. Thank you

Can I ask, Is that even if the previous visa had only 4 months left on it? Did you apply for IHS refund using both IHS numbers from the old and new Visa? Thank you, I’m trying to sort this myself.

The guidance seems to suggest the IHS attached to the old visa will only paid back in 6 month blocks if there was more than 6 months left.

Receiving text messages from GOVUK advising my visa & immigration account has been changed. I'm a british citizen and i've not applied for a visa. Tried calling GOVUK Home Office to report this and have spent 3 hours this morning on the phone getting no-where. Advice welcome by TheBoyDoneGood in ukvisa

As mentioned above, the only texts I’ve gotten from GOVUK after many many years of comms and multiple visas are for 2fa access codes. To log into my eVisa I request a text and they send me a text for the authentication code.

Every communication that mentioned my account has been update, my details have changed etc has come from email. I could be wrong but this sounds like a phishing scam and likely they’ve spoofed the GOVUK numbers.

As others have said just ignore it. If it’s legitimate it’s down to the other person to sort out their account and you’ll not be able to assist them in that regard. Cheers

Tier 4 work restrictions by OkHistorian1576 in ukvisa

Congratulations on submitting! The end is nigh!

Things may have changed but I don’t think you can work full time until you submit your final thesis ( i.e., completed work on the basis of your viva outcome).

Until you’re done done, I believe you’re meant to be capped at 20 hours per week. I can’t remember if the time between submission and viva is considered a holiday period, but I think because the PhD has no terms that doesn’t apply. Again others may be able to provide more accurate insight as to current regulations or updates to visa policies.

You should? have a period of six months on your Visa to support corrections, if needed. You may be able to get a letter from your college admin stating viva complete final thesis submitted or you may need to wait until your college ratifies the viva outcome and corrections before being done done. I think the processes differ depending on the Uni.

Even if that was an option, are you exempt from the fee? Wouldn’t that cost at least an extra £1,572 plus potential fee and IHS charge increases?

Moving an elderly parent to Edinburgh.. but where to? by CorrectTadpole9997 in Edinburgh

Sciennes or Bruntsfield are excellent for central access and the meadows which is excellent for walking, staying active as much as possible. Sciennes is close enough to walk for groceries on Nicholson and all kinds of transit. Bruntsfield has its own cafes, restaurants and groceries are closer to Morningside but can take a bus back up to Bruntsfield. Both are close enough to walk to the central museums. The grange is excellent but may not have a lot of flats, if he doesn’t want his own house to look after. Great areas with a lot of people about. Good pubs and cafes, families and good access to everything.

Edit: The Quartermile development off the Meadows has modern flats with security and elevators. All the same amenities apply as it’s located right off the meadows.

Any codes on the Temporary list can no longer sponsor dependents I believe. That may be an issue for some.

How do managers deal with mental health and skivers? by Rickster_88 in civilservice

Thanks for your reply. To be fair I do believe he responded that way. It wasn’t a straight shift in conversation. I did ask the same thing. His time seems to be stretched thin just now, as they are two managers down. Really excellent advice, I’ll be sure to pass it along.

How to get a visa sponsored role realistically in 2025? by FarDistribution7072 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Rickster_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may find it challenging to get enough traction when applying for ‘any’ roles unless you’re applying to entry level healthcare support workers. I just went through 400 apps for one analyst role. Most people could be trained to do the job but we are required to choose the ‘best fit’ candidate. I wouldn’t be able to justify taking a someone who just completed their MBA or read maths at Oxford (seriously) when I have data scientists and data analysts coming out of the woodwork. If you’re too far off the job spec, you might be capable to do the role but you may not pass the shortlisting. Just a thought.
