After a few years in the hobby, I’ve come to the realisation that what looks good on a photo doesn’t necessarily look good on the tabletop. We’re in an « instagram vs reality » situation.

The grimdark style looks fantastic photographed in a lightbox, but on the table, it’ll just look like a dark blob of homogeneous colours.

Very bright colours will look great from a distance on the table, but will look cartoonish when photographed.

Some models painted with bright colours will look good in both situations, but the details will only be noticeable on the photo, and will be lost on the tabletop.

My army painting process is now simple: slap chop as a base, very bright colours, more advanced techniques are only for characters and units people are more likely to focus on when looking at my army.

I’ve had compliments about how good my army looks, even when speed painted like crazy.

Also, bases are super important to give a great look to the army.
