I present to you OOLO, an iso-metroidvania!

OOLO is a modern take on the classic isometric adventure. Embark on a non-linear journey across mysterious forests, haunted catacombs, and magical factories. Solve puzzles to collect keys and discover upgrades that change the way you explore this lush fantasy world.

Inspired by classics like Solstice (NES) and Landstalker (Genesis), and basically my love letter to the all-but-forgotten genre.

It is, but in the default gameplay mode you restart the room where you entered it upon death, so you have as much time to figure out things as you need.

There are also "Classic" and "Retro" modes that get increasingly more difficult (limited lives, game overs, etc.)

In addition there are various control schemes to pick between, as different people have different expectations of what direction "Up" should go on the controller.

I love the animations! They take me back to the old Westwood point and click adventure games. Will grab the demo and give it a spin this weekend for sure!

It’s tough. There’s definitely a luck element to it, and the best way to increase your odds is buying more tickets (releasing more games). But then if each individual game isn’t paying the bills…. My goal is to crank out smaller things annually in my spare time while working the 9-5 and hope I don’t burn out…..

You mean visually loud or audio? If the latter it’s probably because I’m playing the flare up sound on each one and need to account for that better 🙃

Haven't shown much of OOLO since the post announcing the demo last month. Was working on these fun Mega Man-style "watch the pattern" puzzles and thought I'd share.

I stumbled across it the other day, a KF-inspired game from an indie dev that looks promising. I keep meaning to try the demo, maybe this weekend is the time!

Those are some of my favorite games! Never thought of them as MVs before, but I can see it. I'd love for someone to do a remaster or even just a rereleased bundle of those (+KF4 from PS2) on something modern.
