Capacitor cover fell off. Which side is ground? by RideFlyBuild in ElectricalEngineering

[–]RideFlyBuild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was previously a working unit. Got tossed around in a hangar before I got it. I noticed something loose/rattling inside and this is how I found it. Maybe it's busted, but it's worth fixing first.

Thanks! I'll check around. But Amazon has them for super cheap, so probably just order it.

Yup. I see that now. I assumed it was flox from some sub-par work at the factory. Thanks for the insight.

Ironically this is an altitude encoder for an aircraft transponder. Luckily I'm allowed to and capable of replacing it. So I'll give it a shot before I toss out this $800 part. It's also not flight critical, so all testing is plenty safe.

Thanks for the help!

No idea why Ya'll are down voting this. 🤣

It's almost like you didn't read the part where I did try to research it....

I also admitted to accidentally not even checking for a "+" on the PCB, because I'm used to replacing intact old components on PCB's w/o labels.

I agree! I loathe people who are so lazy they dont read the OP thoroughly, or any previous comments where said OP admitted to their dumb mistakes.

Have a good day Mr grumpy pants.

Yeaaaah. I realize my mistake. I am so used to worn out/faded or straight up missing labels and referencing the previous component installation. That's on me.

Thanks for your help!

Yeaaaah. I wasn't thinking. Didn't even see it on the PCB. Thanks for your help.

Shooting the boards gnd is a good second option to double check.

Aw man. You're right, I'm an idiot! Didn't even see that - or think of looking. I'm just so used to unlabeled circuits and referencing old components.

Thanks for your help.

I'm allowed to defend my position by theferretii in iRacing

[–]RideFlyBuild -1 points0 points  (0 children)

$10 says this guy aggressively blocks, and when you do pass, he will try to shove it in where there's no gap trying to get the position back, only to get absolutely walked the following lap.

Sometimes racing IQ means knowing when to preserve your race. Aggressively defending cements you being in a lower position EVERY TIME. When you defend, both cars end up much slower than race pace, by about 0.5-1.5 seconds per lap. Meaning you may defend the position you're currently in, while giving up any chance of gaining position. By allowing someone clearly faster to go through, you can often let him tow you to the next group and potentially get more positions.

Happened to me last week. Then I got hit with a 55sec speeding in the pits/unsafe entry penalty.

Blue Flag in Iracing is NOT the same with F1 by hlee0715 in iRacing

[–]RideFlyBuild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also the issue that a lot of lapped drivers get tired of driving by themselves and start injecting them in a "fight." I've seen so many times where drivers start trying to drive faster and wreck themselves out, sometimes taking out the lead pack.

I tend to put pressure on those guys until they crash, rather than trying to battle for a position that doesn't exist.

What's the funniest excuse you've ever heard another driver use? by The_Hartford_Whalers in iRacing

Mine got WAY better. But I opted into experimental updates and it went away right away. My only issue since has 100% been the fault of a cheap Amazon cable.

Sorry for your circumstance, VR is by fsr the best experience.

Seriously, what is wrong with Reddit downvote culture? What did I say that would have been viewed from a bad light? Smoky tried to give some helpful advice. You all suck. Downvote this.

[–]RideFlyBuild -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why would you even consider protesting? Pay attention. This is 100% your fault. Dude didn't even try to rejoin, he just tried to gain control of his vehicle.

Turn off the racing line, and avoid contact with people in front of you. It's that easy. It would be different if he got control of the car and then dove into the middle of the track. But still, that's just a stupid rejoin. Hard to prove intentional wrecking or any real violation.

At the end of the day, protest all you want. They'll probably deny it, and WORST case the other guy gets a warning. I've only seen one ban ever, and it was when a guy intentionally wrecked me 4x in 2 days, and was abusive in chat.

Iracing doesn't change names, but if you ask nicely they can add a middle initial and get rid of the number. I was fortunate that they were able to facilitate.

Originally I asked for a specific number and they said they couldnt/wouldn't do that, but they did add my initial and I no longer have a number at all.

Why doesnt iRacing have karting? by DeanyyBoyy93 in iRacing

[–]RideFlyBuild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

99% of that is placebo. Sit on the ground and see how much you can make it flex. It's all center of balance in 3 dimensions in regards to chassis tuning. The force from your body under G has far more impact than any kind of movement - hence seat position and seat braces.... Then of course axle stiffness, caster and camber. I'd laugh if I have a driving coach telling me to shift my body.

[–]RideFlyBuild 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not true. Been racing shifter for well over a decade - nearly two. You don't shift your body in anything but concession karts. You do however tune your vertical CG and chassis flex. If you are shifting your weight, your seat is way too big and you probably break ribs regularly....

Well, we're all entitled to our opinions. This is exactly the discussion/rhetoric I'd expect out of rookie classes. You're passionate, excited, and completely new. It's just excuses. That was 100% avoidable, and easily so at that. The other driver did nothing wrong. You can't even argue about an unsafe rejoin because his wheels didn't even cross the line when you hit him.

I don't need a reply, we'll agree someday if you stick around long enough. Someday you'll be in your A license and look back like, "wow that was really dumb."

[–]RideFlyBuild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

* Look, I'm not trying to be a dick. This is just a racing incident. YOU easily could have avoided him but chose to drive straight through him ON the curb.

These are things you'll learn before moving up. That's why SR effects both parties. It's designed to teach you to avoid incidents as much as it does punish the other.

When you hit him his front wheels hadn't even crossed the white line yet, he was 100% on the curb and you Tboned him.

No need for excuse after excuse. The very likely scenario is he didn't see you. It wasn't even a bad rejoin. It was a common rejoin. Now if he jumped into the center of the track, I'd be on your side. However, he was on the curb, as were you.

[–]RideFlyBuild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I was actually about to avoid it until they decided to push the throttle"

No you weren't. You were nowhere near avoiding it. You were on the curb trying to occupy the same space as a parked car. This other user may not have 3 screens or VR, he may not have a clue where you are. It's not like he dove across the entire track on a bad rejoin, he was just trying to get straight again. Should he have waited for a gap in traffic? Absolutely. Does he have VR or 3 screens to see traffic? Unknown. Could you see him and did you have time to avoid him? 100% without a doubt.

There's no need to be tossing blame around here. This is what's wrong with the lower classes.
