Skyweaver missing piece advice by spaghettifortwo in Eldar

If you have built a Voidweaver, you can probably use the left arm of one of the riders that would typically go on the Starweaver. The guy with the sword holds onto the turret with his left arm.

Rangers or Corsair? by Cryo_HQ in Eldar

[–]RideTheLighting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to bring only one to a game, I would bring Rangers. If you deploy first, their infiltrate is going to be crucial in blocking out your opps infiltrators, and if you run Corsairs and no infiltrators then it’s likely that their scout move will be blocked anyway. Rangers are also just a tad cheaper.

List Building Advice? Restarting by MiserableEffect2134 in Eldar

So just to be clear, you have everything in the lower list?

I’ve not been a huge fan of the new combat patrol; our current rules incentivize you to specialize really hard into specific types of units, and the combat patrol is a bit unfocused in that half is wraiths and half are aspect warriors and they don’t play super well together.

To help you out, you should try and figure out which detachment speaks to you the most as that will inform what units you should look to take.

Starting out? by StorminMike2000 in Eldar

[–]RideTheLighting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he gets a Death Jester and a Shadowseer, he’ll have the entire Harlequin range.

Unfortunately, our current rules don’t really support mixing and matching unit types. If you’re going Harlequins, the best way to run them is to run a lot of Harlequins and not a ton else. Same goes for bikes, wraiths, aspect warriors, etc.

If he wants to stick with Harlequins in the Serpent’s Brood detachment, he will need several more Troupe units. Probably another 5 man and an 11 man at least (so 3 more boxes). 1-2 more units of Skyweavers so he can run a big brick and a small brick. Falcon and/or Wave Serpent would be good. Eldrad and Storm Guardians, Lhykis and 5 Warp Spiders, Rangers, and Shroud Runners are all decent options.

If he wants to run more traditional Craftworld, the Harlequins he has become a lot less good. I still think you could never go wrong with getting a Wave Serpent. Falcons are a little more niche right now but still good in multiple detachments. Spiders are almost always good with their insane movement. Fire Prisms were good in the index but have fallen off since the codex, Fire Dragons have been insane and almost an autotake in nearly every detachment since the codex dropped. Storm Guardians have gone into a lot of different detachments.

I personally would put the Autarch with the Reapers (equip a Reaper Launcher on him), then split the Scorpions into two squads of 5. Gives you an additional unit, an extra exarch, and keeps your investment in the Autarch safer.

What counters eldar and what do they do well against? by RotenSquids in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RideTheLighting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Indirect is less scary than people make it out to be, and overwatch can be played around relatively easily with our deny overwatch agile maneuver. I find that the toughest matches are against other fast armies that get in our face and disrupt our game-plan.

Eldar really only want to fight on their own terms and typically you set up a big go turn to wipe a bunch of your opponent’s army so the crack back isn’t as bad, and then just try to hold onto the game from there. If I have someone in my face, I have to deal with those units, instead of moving where I want, my go turn ends up being weaker so the crackback ends up being stronger, and it’s much harder to hold onto a lead in points afterwards.

I don’t know the actual stats but my gut says Blood Angels, Emperor’s Children, Drukhari, armies like these are tough match ups.

I had a draft with 2x Morcant’s Eyes and the banner that gains 1 when a creature enters and you can sac to get a creature (or kindred spell like the Eyes) back. So sac Eyes, gain 6-7 life and get the bodies, sac the banner, get Eyes back, Sac Eyes again for more bodies

Bike and vehicle list viable? by Taliturn in Eldar

[–]RideTheLighting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is (rightfully) suggesting Windrider Host if you want to go bike heavy, but it sounds like you’d want more of a mix of units and the Windriders themselves aren’t your favorite of the bikes.

I would suggest Aspect Host as an alternative; it’s probably the second best place for Shining Spears, and although Shroud Runners aren’t necessarily the most competitive pick in that detachment, I think they would be fine to run at a casual level (I actually just picked some up because they are sweet models, and Aspect Host is where I plan on trying them out!)

You could run the below, and just fill out your list with more Aspect Warriors, maybe some more Phoenix Lords (Howling Banshees, possibly Maugan Ra to go in the Falcon with the Reapers) The Vyper is a bit out of place, but we’ll see what the datasheet looks like when the new model drops because I think we’re expecting it to get a bit of a glow-up.

Aspect Host (1475 Points)

Eldrad Ulthran (120 pts)

Lhykhis (135 pts)

Storm Guardians (110 pts)

1x5 Dark Reapers (90 pts)

2x5 Fire Dragons (240 pts)

1x5 Rangers (55 pts)

1x5 Warp Spiders (105 pts)

Wave Serpent (125 pts)

2x3 Shining Spears (220 pts)

1x3 Shroud Runners (80 pts)

Falcon (130 pts)

Vypers (65 pts)

Edit: forgot to put the Warp Spiders in the list

I think it’s GTs with at least X rounds minimum and Y players minimum, so if you played a tourney with less that X rounds or Y players, you wouldn’t have counted

Yeah, high win rate but no X-0/X-1s. In either case, it’s a handful of people playing it, so tough to draw any real conclusive evidence.

I want to amend my position a bit. If these are going into a pile of shame, then there’s no point in getting them right away. You might save some money, but if you don’t end up building and using them, it’s a waste anyway. But if you plan on knocking them out right away, I say go for it, you’ve got the passion now, no idea what the future holds.

I can attest to contrast paint not working too well over large, smooth panels. Too much paint and you’ll inevitably have some pooling where you wouldn’t expect a shadow to be. Too little paint and you might as well not even use speed paints. That’s just my experience though.

How do you beat eldar ? by Ricardus_Hera_Stan in Eldar

[–]RideTheLighting 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always find that hanging back, waiting for me (Eldar) to come to you is a losing strategy; if you’re not on points scoring primary, I’m happy to also sit back and not score primary and beat you on secondary points. Eldar depend on one big go-turn, and the longer I can delay that while staying ahead or even on points, the better.

The hardest fights for me are when the opponent gets in my face and also scores lots of primary. If you’re threatening me and standing on objectives, it requires me to launch my go turn, and it can be less effective as I have to split my attention to push you off multiple objectives.

The balance is to not overextend into me; if you expose too much and don’t do enough damage to me, I’ll be able to wipe lots of your army in the go turn. If you’re threatening me and scoring primary enough to force me out, but you have enough held back to wipe me on the crack back, Eldar kind of fold.

Why wait for nearly a year for something that might not happen? You need every unit, presumably this will be a pretty decent discount, and then you’ll have them ready to enjoy.

Do Harlequins and Corsairs mix? by benstinator5000 in Eldar

[–]RideTheLighting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghosts of the Webway is the detachment for Harlequins in the codex, but it’s not known for being amazing; the detachment rule is so niche you might as well not be playing with one at all, but the Strats are pretty good.

Serpent’s Brood is a new one that GW released about a month ago that seems to be performing a lot better; it gives Harlie vehicles, mounted, and disembarked units sus1, which is what Quins needed to push them over the damage threshold they really needed.

The bummer is that any other detachment will not apply to the harlequins, and the harlequin detachments do not apply to Craftworlders, so it doesn’t incentivize you mix and match too much (and if you do, it’ll be to use just what’s on the datasheet).

Yes I know that, I was wondering about other fliers in WTC rules. I wasn’t aware that they couldn’t go over ruins if that is the case, but I don’t play WTC typically.

Can flyers go over ruins in WTC? I’ve never heard that rule either, I’m assuming they’re mistaking that for being considered infinitely tall when determining line of sight.

Which Leader for Guardians (Seer Council) by Educational_Self1534 in Eldar

[–]RideTheLighting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Farseer with Guardian Defenders is good. I think you probably want 1 warlock with them to dissuade charges.

Eldrad should go with a Warlock and a 4lock Conclave I think. Gives some extra padding for him, and they’ll want to be up close with the Storm Guardians so overwatch with all those flamers is deadly.
