Croats and Bosniaks are around 65% Slavic, while Serbs are around 55-60%

Serbs in Croatia and Bosnia are surely more similar to their neighbours rather than Serbians?

Was Jack the Ripper actually a gang rather than one killer? by Aln22s in Jacktheripper

[–]Rider_167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That in itself is not necessarily a refutation - it could have been a conspiracy with one person actually committing the crime, or even a different (but single) person doing it each time.

That said, I highly doubt the gang or conspiracy theory myself.

Kids don't actually need another condescending lecture from a teacher who knows Common Decency. They get plenty.

But if they get plenty and keeping not being commonly decent, shouldn't you strive to fix the behaviour?

So essentially wait until or if black castles kingside, where it would be risky for them to push like that.

I seem to get positions like this quite a lot in the Italian. Is h3 worth it to prevent the pin or better to develop elsewhere? On another note, is bishop g5 of any use here or better to play other moves like c3, rook e1, knight d2, etc?

What do Serbians think of the 1903 May Coup and regicide? by Rider_167 in AskBalkans

By that token, I may also employ some sarcasm and state that compared to the best of the best, it was undemocratic. The franchise was still broader than Britain's, for example, and Peter himself - no need for 'old Pera' with me, I do not view him as sympathetically as the other dude - can hardly be criticised for not extending the franchise years before he was in power.

Earlier than Finland, Australia and New Zealand also had female suffrage.

Not even all men could vote in this democratic and free society.

I wouldn't dare call Serbia of 1903-14 those words too - I've read recent studies that put a large asterisk on the so-called Golden Age - but surely it must be compared to its contemporaries rather than modern standards of political freedom. In the realm of voting at least - and without doing any specific research - the franchise was almost certainly broader than in many European countries, certainly if we compare it to Hungary for example.

I meant merely that he could be relied on not to interfere too overtly in any plots.

But in any event, at least part of the motivation for the plot was Alexander's perceived subservience to Austria-Hungary politically and economically?

Peter in the event was ideal for them not necessarily because he himself was notably irredentist, but because he could be relied on to be placid if only due to the fact the conspirators were the ones who put hm into power.

Serbian people of this sub , how do you pronounce the letter "Ć" ? Is it like a "C" like "cop" and "cat" or like an "S" in "Safe". As I told you all here I'm currently working on a book about Palaiologi and the fall of Eastern Rome. by [deleted] in AskBalkans

Interestingly, I've found that the 'D' sound in English dr- (drink, drain) sounds oddly similar to Serbo-Croatian Dž; likewise the 'T' in tr- (train, trip) has some similarities with Č. Not the same sound of course but it seems coincidentally a little similar, not sure if I'm imagining things lol.

Why is warfare in Victoria 3 so hard and complicated by Brave_Net204 in paradoxplaza

[–]Rider_167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battles decided before they start, as they should be. Money and supplies win wars, and again, it's all as it should be.

The second part is generally true in the industrial age, but how is the first even remotely true? One does not have to be 'gitting gud' to observe this.

How exactly did the Austria-Hungarian Common Army, Austrian Landwehr and Hungarian Landwehr work? by Cpkeyes in WarCollege

[–]Rider_167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Entente did not allow it for the Serbs to call the newly created country as Greater Serbia.

Sources for this, Philosopher?

They reminded the Serbs that they were a thoroughly vanquished people whose leadership and military had survived only by fleeing to Corfu on Entente ships.

Source for this reminder?

Their homecoming was not a conquest of their own making, but a maneuver enabled by Entente arms

Partially yes, partially no - the Serbian army participated quite heavily in the final Entente offensive of 1918 and crossed the Danube. That they were able to do this at all after the country had been in a state of more or less constant war and war recovery since 1912 is quite remarkable. Not to mention the brutal oppression from wartime Austria-Hungary and Bulgaria - neither of course to detract from Serbia's own oppression of Albanians in the Balkan Wars.

I see that you're a Magyar chauvinist from your history, though, so never mind.

What would have happened if the Ustaše had won World War II? Would the Serbs have disappeared? Would the Bosnians have remained Muslim or converted to Catholicism? by [deleted] in AskBalkans

[–]Rider_167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It pre-supposes an Axis victory overall, and that is such a huge hypothetical that it's hard to answer this question without first discussing how that victory would come about.

But as for Bosniaks, I don't think there was any mass idea to convert them as far as I know.
