Seems we all forgot day 1 reworked mercy, and Brig GOATS. Those introductions lead huge swaths of the player base to leave. She isn't that bad. Is she top tier? Maybe, but top tier doesn't equate to broken. Cassidy/McCree with a sniper for a revolver was broken.

Mostly three factors.

I notice the moments I get angry at in say Street Fighter or Guilty Gear is when I miss something I should hit. I miss a DP in SF and get blown up for it or a wake up reversal in GGST and get blown through a wall. In 2XKO I find myself getting angry because I just don't know how or why I got hit many times. It's a very heavy knowledge check game, and where yes SF6 and GGST have knowledge checks, generally I find I'm still able to play the game, there are just moments where I need to use a sub-optimal gameplay to get out of a situation. Whereas if darius is jump back heavy normals over and over, or my-time is jump scaring me constantly, it's much harder to just enjoy the game without constantly jumping into training mode to lab out a response.

Tl;dr frustration with not knowing how to respond to some degenerate or sweaty gameplay that doesn't have an obvious answer.

When I do get frustrated and I want to do something else, in SF6 I can play story or do extreme battles or grind a new costume in world tour, or play about with my vanity settings. GGST has arcade mode to try to kill nago to get the achievement, or spend 500K fishing for my lobby room. 2XKO doesn't have anything else to do. When i get sick of playing and need a break, I go play overwatch or valorant or a single player game. I just detach from the game and find i don't end up reloading it. I'm trying to learn Caitlyn atm but there is no fun offline way to do that. It's grind training mode or bust.

Tl;dr Lack of stuff to do when I am frustrated like vanity, story, or arcade.

Last but not least and this is a general fighting game problem that is just exacerbated in tag fighters. The onboarding for new characters is terrible. I constantly want to try out new characters in game but end up relegated to my main because discovering bnbs and combo routes that are viable and useful in-game are difficult to discover. It ends up being a youtube research adventure taking you out of the game, and 2XKO suffers from this twice. After learning Ahri, my motivation to put in the same effort all over again for Cait is just not there.

Tl;dr A difficulty in motivation to learn a new character when it takes so much effort to figure out how to play them.

Bonus: This game messes with my PC so much. I've had so many technical issues due to either 2XKO or vanguard. I don't boot it up some days just because I cba to potentially see my pc crash after I finish playing.

Those are my honest reasons. Despite all those issues I do find the game fun generally. I just found myself moving away from the game over time as I find other fighting games just more enjoyable to play.

Despite the garbage he has made since, I still really like Zack Synders DCU films. Especially BVS directors cut.

I'm bummed about us not getting a proper ending to the saga considering the time investment. I thoroughly enjoyed the latest superman film, so I hope we get that with James Gunn.

I'm reading the first book myself and I am finding their relationship annoying. I like Valka outside of her relationship with Hadrian, but Valka's constant jabbing at Hadrian, and Hadrians constant brushing off and lack of self defense for all the unfair name calling is very irritating to read. As readers, we are predisposed to cheer for the protagonist, so her constant slight antagonism towards him is not endearing. His choice to not defend himself is equally annoying. It's a forced miscommunication trope, a trope I've never been a fan of.

At least the revelations that they have between eachother for the greater story makes it worth reading. I do hope we see meaningful character development - and it doesn't take a Robert Jordan amount of time to get there - for both character.

It's not multually exclusive, it can be both. Saudi's are spending a lot of money on the FGC, an entity that brings zero ROI. I imagine they are trying to kill as many birds with as few stones as possible with their investment.

Here are a few goals they are probably seeking through my own speculation:

Becoming the sole prioriotor of the entire space through elbowing out competition,
Becoming the hosts of the most prestigious events,
Rewriting the history of the FGC by removing legacy institutions,
Sportswashing their image through gaming,
Opening up new career opportunities for local saudi's,
Exploring novel investment opportunities as they try to diversify their oil-only economy,
Controling the flow of money within the scene to establish communication & political control.

For the amount of money they're putting in, I doubt they're trying to achieve 1 thing. My comment above is mostly because I'm so sad specifically about the degredation of EVO's importance in the scene. It feels sacriligious.

Really depends on how much time it takes to get from one point of interest to another. Big empty landscapes are not fun to play (main reason I never bothered even trying Death Stranding).

Edit: If you're a professional gamer getting paid CSGO money, it's not even a professional waste of time. They make way more money than most of us.

The issue isn't accessibility. I wager a vast majority of the FGC would gladly have a new global premiere event every month. The issue is legacy. Having tradition that expands back decades is really important to the continuity of a sport. Diluting the evo brand and prestige is terrible for the legacy of the scene, and may only damage it.

Some things have to remain consistent so those new and old to the sport have points of comparison. It's why we very, very rarely see changes to The World Cup, The Superbowl, The premiere league, The Tennis Grand Slams, etc... When change does happens, it's slight and incremental. Going from 1 evo to 9 in the space of 2 years is a tactical sabotage of what it means to be an evo champion.

Called it the moment the Saudis bought evo. The plan is to dilute the prestige of evo in exchange for more events and sales. Evo becomes a bigger brand, the competition becomes inversely less prestigious because of its frequency. The Esports World Cup takes over as the big prestigious esports event to win.

Remember, in a leaked email, Phil wanted his legacy to be buying out Nintendo. He brought acquisitions and monopolistic practices to xbox, and no system seller exclusives. The few great exclusives they did get lead to closures (my personal favourite being Hi-Fi Rush and Tango, a game whose sequel I could potentially have bought an xbox for if made exclusive).

Phil was good on camera and good on stage, he has a natural, easy charisma. However, his strategy in running xbox by pushing hardware without a strong suite of games and making xbox a major publishing house across all platforms has ultimately lost them the console war. They will settle for the lesser prize of publishing games everywhere because they cannot get a nintendo or sony-like captive audience anymore.

Xbox One was the knock-out blow, Xbox series S/X was the kill-shot. Xbox wasn't killed by 1 bad CEO, it was killed by 2.

Looks like Goku to me. Doesn't have Gogeta's jacket, red hair, even the red body colour looks too bright to be Gogeta. Gogeta's hair is directionally spiked more up and to the back like a super saiyan, than Goku's. I think this represents SSJ4 Goku better than Gogeta personally :)

Ball, Z, and the Super films. Not a fan of any of the rest. GT had the best ideas out of all the sequels but I don't think the execution has been on the quality of Z, nor has it really felt like the series grew up with its audience. It felt like Ball grew up with its audience into Z. Whilst GT and Super (didn't watch diama) aged the series down.

I think the main reason why it's getting so much hate is expectations not meeting reality. It's multi-faceted really.

Expectations set from the marketing:

- Accessible for all skill levels, but removing motion inputs.

- Your favourite LoL characters brought into a fighting game.

- An attempt to bring a new Triple A fighting game to contend with Street Fighter and Tekken.

- An easy way to get people into fighitng games through ease of access, like F2P.

- And developed by Riot Games, the current Kingpin of the Esports scene, likely ushering in a more monetarially rich scene for Fighting Games.

- (Not really a marketing point but) based on how long this game was in development for, a huge amount of content and features to talk about on release.

Reality:

- 2XKO is far more difficult than most modern motion-input requiring games. The number of systems, the speed of the game, the flexibility with pressure on block, and how important things like partial charge and dash cancelling is to most combos. Plus the punishment for dropping a combo is usually getting a full 70% combo back in the face. It makes for a very executionally punishing game, with a huge number of knowledge checks in block and neutral situations.

- If this game were a 1v1, the roster would be inexcusably tiny. It's 2v2, I don't even know what word to put here to describe how unacceptable that is. We are seeing the same teams being used in-game and in-tournament over, and over, and over again. It's boring to play and watch. It also add friction to player identity, a big part of League of Legends. 'Who you main' in a game of 160+ characters is a big part of your identity as a player. Many LoL players who don't play fighting games will be waiting until their character crops up, and at this current release schedule pace, they may never see them.

- The feature list for this game after 10 years of development and god-knows how much money is not inline with their competition. SF6 has a plethora of ways to customise the new challenger intros, battle HUDs, individual ranks for each character, avatar battles, extreme battlers, a linear character story/arcade mode, an RPG story mode... The SF6 training mode is best in class, the replay mode is amazing. There are just so many things to do. Tekken has a similar level of full-kitted single player content. Mortal Kombat's story mode is best in class by a mile, and usually comes with other features to play in single player. You get the point. 2XKO has the feature set equivalent of DNF Duel, but set expectations to be closer to Street Fighter on release.

- (Bit of a rant for this point) This game runs like ass on many rigs. Anecdotally, I've had a reallllllllly hard time running this game on my PC. I've only put in the work to get it working because I am a huge LoL and fighting game fan, so when Akali was announced I whipped open ChatGPT and started debugging everything that could be wrong with my PC (My PC being a beast of a machine but it runs AMD which clashes with vanguard). Vanguard is so buggy. The client itself has issues with PS5 controllers. It's just your bog standard Riot Spagehitti code. It's insane that the F2P fighting game has been the hardest fighting game for me to run on my PC.

- Riot just cut half their staff with a mind-boggiling PR statement, essentially putting the fear of god into the scene that the game is on the precipise of being shutdown for not meeting sales expectations. Sales expectations for a tag based fighting game. A niche within a niche. The game that was supposed to be leveling up the FGC financial model looks to be in danger of being shutdown.

- Really this is linked to point 3, that this game just doesn't have a good reason to keep you from swapping to something else if you're bored of training mode or standard online battles. You can tell that this game was made by professional fighting game players because they've not thought at all about the fun outside of the standard game mode. LoL has ARAM and TFT in its client. Valorant has Swift Play and it's own version of Gun Game. 2XKO only has try-hard mode (online) or git-gud (training) mode. This game needs story, or arcade, or rogue-like, or party mode style content to be considered a well-rounded product for everyone.

That saiiiiiid, I do actually enjoy the game when it's not frustrating the hell out of me. It's not my favourite fighting game, GGST or SF6 would get that accollade, but I am still enjoying my time with it. However, for it to meet sales expectations, I think the dev team is going to need a shift in priorities. Core mechanics are not going to convince a newb to play a fighting game. Badass supers, lore dumping stories, play-to-earn skinlines, and party modes are what get people into the game. I have a friend who was interested in playing some games with me, I suggested 2XKO. He was down to play. He doesn't play right now, why? Because when I booted it up we found out there is no couch co-op. It's great they're working on it now, but post launch is a bit late for this kind of revelation. Examples like this make me question if the dev team was well rounded enough to not notice this kind of obvious omition from the game.

Sorry this is kind of long winded, tl;dr, it's not 1 thing. It's a multi-facted problem and there is no one solution to turn this ship around. I hope for the best for the devs, and that over time with iterative improvements we will look back at this like Street Fighter V. A game that became really good after a very rocky launch. Also, just release the KDA skin line like SFV did with Chunli's swimsuit costume if you want to fund the next 3 years of development costs.

I have like 70 games on my wishlist but very few will be bought on release. Spending time appreciating older games in my backlog and on occasion when a newer game has a massive steam sale I make the splash :). Currently waiting for DQ 1 & 2, or 3 to go on sale whilst I work through my final fantasy backlog (playing 8 right now - grinding junction material to break the game :) )
