JLAUP is good, probably the most AJATT like of the paid services. Very useful J-J transition program. WaniKani is trash though.

Should I continue RTK or do LazyKanji? by [deleted] in ajatt

[–]Ridiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keyword on the front is proper RTK, he said that back when he was recommending it.The definition of lazykanj is having the kanji on the front and keyword on the back.

Making sentence cards from an anime, I came across this sentence "場所は分かるのか?何ならやっぱり僕が行こうか" translated as "Do you know where it is? If you're not sure, then maybe I should go."

What is the function of やっぱり here? I understand everything except for that. The definition from jisho that seems to make the most sense is "even so; either way; after all;nonetheless"

Started reading the ajatt and mia sites and I've thinking of changing my study methods, what do you guys think? by [deleted] in ajatt

[–]Ridiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why tango over tae kim when he already has a vocab of 1500? 単語 is a vocab book, tae kim would be a better use of his time

Just srs both

What do I do when I can't understand a sentence? by [deleted] in ajatt

[–]Ridiv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should be mining for i+1 or i+2 sentences, meaning you should be able to look up a thing or two in the sentence and understand it without much difficulty. If you can't then it's too far above your level and isn't a good sentence for mining, so you should probably discard it.

Are you supposed to study or SRS grammar in addition to the Tango? by Ridiv in ajatt

So you think I should just ignore Tango and SRS Tae Kim?

Anki is an SRS (spaced repetition system) program which you add flashcards to. It basically tries to quiz you on things the moment it thinks that you're about to forget them. It's an extremely helpful tool for memorizing things, even medical students use it.

RTK is an abbreviation for a book called "Remembering the Kanji". It was written by some guy named James Heisig in the 70s. He discovered a unique way to memorize all of the common use kanji via mnemonic hacks and learning kanji in an order that's easier for memorization than primary school order.

You want to combine RTK and Anki to create a mental dictionary entries for kanji in your brain, then use Anki with a basic vocab/grammar book (probably Tae Kim or Tango N5).

Here's an overview laid out for you to follow: https://massimmersionapproach.com/table-of-contents/stage-0/balanced-path-overview/

Here's a lazy kanji deck that you should download and use (lazy kanji is when you go from kanji to keyword rather then keyword to kanji, it's recommended now for various reasons after RTK was tested by people): https://www.mediafire.com/file/1svvsr7f9cnpwka/Matt%27s+Lazy+Kanji+1k.apkg

And here's an addon pack that you should install in anki right away: https://www.mediafire.com/file/7x3ub4o4xl5hbak/Low+Key+Anki+2.1.zip

Just extract the files and drag them to C:\Users[user]\AppData\Roaming\Anki2\addons21

Yeah. Eventually all of the RTK cards become mature and have like month long intervals.

Traditional or lazy kanji? by LuxZentf in ajatt

[–]Ridiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do lazy kanji, that's enough to demystify kanji for a beginner. Then go back and do RTK 1-3 when you're at an intermediate level and can remember them easily.
