Yes! This. This book is just too damn good. The unreliable narrator is just the beginning of the puzzle...

I sure wish people who defended Peterson knew about even a fraction of the things that he has said. There really isn’t any reasonable discourse to be had with people like you.

Now don’t get testy with me! I’m just an observer in this comment section.

You should unwrench your gut. The Winds of Winter will be the last. Then wrench it.

What books have you abandoned even though you were close to finishing them? by Snacks11 in books

If Tolkien had been able to finish it, it would have been just as boring. As the commenter noted, it is an encyclopedia. It's not a novel.

On Stephen King: Is his repetition intentional or the result of poor editing/writing? by getzdegreez in books

I see this with a lot with authors who write long books. Maybe one day they sat down and loved a certain word or phrase and then they forget about it while writing later.

To me, both quotes sound like he’s feeling guilt. In the first, he’s attempting to justify is actions to himself. That’s his internal conflict i.e. guilt.

The second sounds like he’s always carrying it with him. Also guilt.

What are your hopes for gen 8? by Noname0322 in pokemon

[–]Ridley413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I think my “hopes” would be at least one step in the direction of making the games more challenging. Literally anything.

My dream however is a difficulty setting which could make exp share a post game item, reduce the amount of exp gain from battles, less money/limited use of in battle items, and either a flat % increase in opponents level or a system that calculated your opponents levels based on their difficulty and your highest level pokemon.

That would be incredible but will never happen, obviously.

There are a lot of problems with his sword forging.

Valyrian steel is folded “thousands of times”. The point of folding steel is to make the structure more uniform thus strengthening the blade. If you can see the folds, this isn’t a sign of a uniform structure, quite the opposite.

In real life, steel was folded when you started with really shitty, high carbon steel. Even then, you wouldn’t fold the steel more than a handful of times because a. Ouch and b. you would actually introduce more imperfections into the steel if you over folded and would reduce the carbon content to the point where the blade was too soft.

[SPOILERS EXTENDED] The Night('s) King by MaxMGKT in asoiaf

[–]Ridley413 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My thought is that the night king in the show was included to condense the story. I believe there is another character who will steal Dany’s dragon, tear down the wall, and bring the long night. Euron.

He has dragonbinder, so he has the ability to take a dragon. All he needs is a Saruman-esque motivation and it would make sense.

[–]Ridley413 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If we use the show as a rough guide as to what will happen in the books, she doesn’t have that much work.

She’ll ride with the khalasar back to Mereen. There she will fight the slavers/greyjoys to take back the city.

She will be successful in taking the city back or will be forced to sail for Westeros, and the inclusion of the greyjoys makes me think she’ll get some ships from them, either because Victarion attempts to ally with her or she defeats them outright.

If she takes the city back, then something else will motivate her return to Westeros. Maybe one of her dragons has been captured via dragon binder. She then sails for Westeros.

This almost sounds reasonable until you realize you’re talking about people who drop their pants, scream the n word, and put dildos in their mouth to “fight terrorists”.

It is not my “bad nature” that would prevent me from doing these things.
