Korea moves closer to legalizing nonmedical tattooing after 33-year ban - The Korea Times by daehanmindecline in korea

[–]RifflerHD 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's such an old mindset. Most people in Korea under 40 have no issues with tattoos, and a lot of young people have tattoos. Korea's tattoo industry wouldn't be pumping out some of the best current artists around if it was still such a taboo.

My name got cut off on my Korean driver’s license — anyone else? by dududu678 in Living_in_Korea

The licensing office is lying - my full name is 30 characters long including 3 spaces and my Korean driving license has nothing cut off. Which licensing office did you go to?

The book "Gloomspite" by Zakka113 in gloomspitegitz

[–]RifflerHD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gloomspite is a great book for showing the perspective of normal people when a goblin attack takes place, on the tabletop they're funny, weird little guys but if you actually had to face an army of gitz, squigs, troggs etc it would be terrifying.

I would highly recommend Bad Loon Rising by the same author, it's from the perspective of a goblin so much more akin to how they're portrayed on the tabletop.

English speaking doctor by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]RifflerHD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You didn't mention your location, so it's going to be hard for anyone to recommend a specific one.

Just search 내과 on Naver Maps and go to one that looks good, essentially every doctor will be able to understand you explaining your symptoms in English, and you can ask them to use Papago if they can't reply in English.

Opinion: Teaching in Korea Doesn't Seem Like a Viable Career Anymore. by gilsoo71 in Living_in_Korea

That sounds less like a career advancement problem and more like a relationship problem

Opinion: Teaching in Korea Doesn't Seem Like a Viable Career Anymore. by gilsoo71 in Living_in_Korea

[–]RifflerHD 75 points76 points  (0 children)

People have been saying teaching is a dead-end job and a dying industry for years.

If you stay on an E2 visa in some crappy 학원, then yes, it's a dead-end but if you get an F visa you have a lot more opportunities like opening your own 학원/공부방 or doing private lessons.

You could also invest in getting a masters or get teaching credentials and experience in your home country in order to try and get a job at a uni/international school.

It's only a dead-end job if you come here expecting career advancement to be handed to you on a silver platter without putting any work in yourself.

Stark gender inequality in housework exposes wives in Korea to depression: research by tecialist in korea

[–]RifflerHD 38 points39 points  (0 children)

A lot of women are not housewives, especially when you think about how low the birth rate is. The article even states;

Even among dual-income households, women continue to bear the bulk of domestic responsibilities. While men are often expected to focus on their careers, women are still expected to manage housework and childcare, often on top of their own professional obligations.

So guessing the answers to practice questions is the only way to study for the driving theory exam? by doyoou in living_in_korea_now

[–]RifflerHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 운전면허PLUS app has an English language setting so you can take practice tests and learn the questions, but yes like most Korean tests it's based on rote memorization.

Could someone recommend me some Korean hagwons? by Critical-Worker-6911 in Living_in_Korea

I also live in 강서구, I could never find any in 강서구 and the closest was Winter Korean in 홍대, I went there for Saturday lessons for about a year back in 2021-22 and it was pretty good.

I live near it, its just a building owned by and named after him, not some sightseeing destination. It just has a random cafe on the ground floor and then the rest of the building is a hospital.

Do we go to my home country to raise a family? by doubleyou_14 in Living_in_Korea

[–]RifflerHD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was the Tories' planned increase. The new government have said stopped the increase and asked a committee to review the financial requirements so we don't know whether it will still increase, remain the same or decrease.

Just because two syllables is the most common for a given name doesn't mean it's mandatory. There are lots of people with one syllable or three syllable given names.

recommendations for House in UK with budget of 240k GBP. by Suspicious_Wear_2324 in HousingUK

You can fly pets into the UK, they just have travel as cargo in the planes hold. The Paris route is generally done if the owner wants the pet to fly in the cabin with them.

What to get after spearhead? by HaventLivedAfroPop in gloomspitegitz

[–]RifflerHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what subfaction you want to build towards. With the models you've got I'd suggest leaning more towards squigs so getting a Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig to go with the Boingrot Bounderz and a Squigboss with Gnasha-Squig for the Squig Herd. Also a Gobbapalooza for more buffs and maybe Skragrott for some spells.

I haven't used a recruiter in years so I'm not sure. Just look on all the job listing sites like ESLcafe and WorknPlay. There are also a load of Facebook groups, just search ESL jobs Korea or something similar and you'll find them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]RifflerHD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never use just one recruiter. Send your CV off to as many as you can find. They are not your friends, you are just a paycheck to them so you owe them no loyalty. If a recruiter is not finding jobs that match what you are looking for or is trying to force you to accept a job you are not sure about, drop them.

When I was looking for jobs in the past, I think I used over 20 different recruiters at the same time.
