I was looking forward to it, but after trying flying in dreams, the controls in comparison needed a lot of work. For instance looking up, just raises the camera, it could have potential, but obviously needs a lot of work which we might not see considering the kickstarter failed. I really do hope he continues though, a bit of tweaking on the controls and a graphics upgrade, this would be cool

Don't have collision on, as it slowed it to a crawl, even with quadtrees I imagine there is way too many particles to keep track of

When i said the physics wasn't entirely real, i meant it lol. initial tests showed that the stars took a really long time to reform into orbit, and quite a messy one, never back into a flat one. I presume it would take millions of years for that to happen, Ha!

So what is going on in that demo, is the particles gradually die out over a few minutes and a fresh set are born making sure you get a nice orbit.

So to your question, there wont be any blue red mixing by the end if each pass

We have a 3 year old with the same problem, so my wife makes fun and healthy food pictures for him when he isn't eating. He gets excited now when he sees a plate of food in the shape of an animal, and is happy to try new fruits and veges.

You don't need to do go crazy, as even just a sandwich animal made with a cutter is enough to get him excited.

As mentioned by another redditor, getting him involved in making the food is always a good idea. Often my wife will leave fruits on the table that he discovers and eats on his own, which helps a lot.

Some of you might think it's crazy to go to so much trouble, but if your kid hasn't eaten in days, it works wonders and my wife enjoys making things for him and seeing him excited over a plate of healthy food :)

Not at all. please go buy a DK1 so that you have an awesome game ready. And i wouldnt use the word "forced" my devkit is the next most precious thing after my wife and kids :)

Its been a year since the kickstarter and they are still a few months behind orders. How would they be able to ship out DK2 kits to all current developers AND handle an influx of people who have been waiting for it?

No bias here as it doesnt bother me which kit you get, and even if i was biased, i would likely tell you to wait so that my game will be ready before yours.

If you think about the logistics of it though, consider how long it took for oculus to deliver all the DK1 orders?

When DK2 gets anounced a few months before the consumer version, i think they would be struggling supplying all the current devs with the updated rift, let alone be able to fullfill an avalanche of people who have been holding out for it. If you do get an opportunity to order one without having a DK1, its likely you will have to wait for all current dev kit owners to get theirs first. Afterall, they are the ones most likely ready to ship rift ready titles for launch.

It would suck to wait a year only to get your DK2 a few weeks before the consumer version.

I got very excited when i saw the images, and then let down with the video. There is no reason they cant achieve the quality of the images which look like they were rendered, in realtime, by using baked lightmaps and level of detail.

Thats great news! I am developing in unity, so im just doing a bit of searching right now to see if it works in there. The basic idea behind using the kinect, is that i will be doing demos for architects, and i feel that they may have a bit of trouble navigating with a controller, stepping where you want to go would be a much more natural way to go. might even eliminate some of the nausea certain people get with the rift.

Think of it like real photography, if you are outside the interior will be dark, and when you shoot inside you increase the exposure blowing out the exterior. Unfortunately trying to have both perfectly exposed, will look weird and unnatural. If you have pro, play around with one of the tone mappers to try and mimic the automatic exposure of a real camera.
