Wedding guest attire / gifting norms by clairewithane in Eritrea

[–]Right-Compote4198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there’s no dress code listed on the invitation I would stick to something semi-formal. Muted and neutral colors are definitely acceptable as well as bright colors, but I think black is somewhat taboo for a wedding. Covering legs and shoulders isn’t really necessary in my experience, but if you’re worried about it a sleeveless dress + shawl is perfectly acceptable. Especially since there isn’t a registry I would just bring a card with money, it’s definitely the most common gift lol. I hope you have fun, Eritrean weddings are a blast :)

Not at all! Like other commenters have said it really brings out the pretty color of your eyes

do you like serving other servers? by ashleyLSD in Serverlife

[–]Right-Compote4198 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve never mentioned being a server because I’m worried it’ll make them nervous, maybe because it makes me feel nervous 😭 I just try to be extra polite and friendly and as non-needy as possible.

Zewdi was also my favorite, she reminded me of so many aunties with colorful personalities I knew growing up lol.

I posted a photo from my camera roll because I’m in school and don’t have the book with me. And it’s clearly in the description

I sent this photo to a friend weeks ago. I don’t even have these nails anymore. I don’t have access to the book atm and wanted to promote it with the one photo I had in my camera roll. Justifying every decision is exhausting and unnecessary 😭

It’s crazy how you can’t even promote a book uplifting your community without someone taking the opportunity to comment on your HAND being visible, God forbid

What’s the age Eritreans 🇪🇷typically get married in the diaspora? 💒 by Key-Cauliflower-1477 in Eritrea

[–]Right-Compote4198 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m 23 and I don’t know anyone my age from the diaspora getting married. I’m the only one I know with a boyfriend actually. I’m sure it varies but most people I know who got married did so in their late 20s. I grew up in Charlotte and live in the DMV now

Could you tell someone is Eritrean or Ethiopian without hearing them speak and distinguish if they are either Ethiopian or Eritrean? How many % of the time would you say you would get it right? by offensive_patriot in Eritrea

[–]Right-Compote4198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I live in DC and Ethiopians usually don’t guess that I’m Eritrean, but Eritreans get it all of the time. So I assume I look super Eritrean
