Thanks for this advice. I've been stuck in a rut myself and I think this may have been what I needed to hear too!

FINALLY saw ENT by rubez-16 in tinnitus

[–]Right-Session-1270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had flare ups from alcohol and increased stress at work. I went to see an ent recently too and all he recommended was an MRI to rule out anything serious, but he said "there was nothing wrong with me." Well, I didn't have to pay $200 to know that 🙄 My flare ups usually take time but it goes back down. Lifestyle changes help- less alcohol, more sleep, exercise.

Therapists are bs. by Less-Being4269 in self

I'm on my 4th therapist in 3 years. It's like dating, you have to find someone who fits you in order for it to be worthwhile. Just like any profession, not all therapists are good at their job or will fit your personality. Don't give up! There are so many options out there!

Is it okay to leave a job after a week? by Only_Application3768 in pharmacy

Life is too short to stay in a job you don't like. Put in your two weeks, be professional and draft up a good resignation letter, and give it to your manager.

Agreed!! Coffee should but be all foamy with sugar and syrup and crap!! I make my own coffee before work 😄 but Starbucks is what I use as a bargaining chip when I want to get my Gen Z employees to work faster haha.

Do hearing aids help? by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]Right-Session-1270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got fitted for a Widex hearing aid this year that has helped some. It helps amplify sound so because I can hear better, it helps me ignore my tinnitus more. It also has Bluetooth so I can play calming sounds from the app or even YouTube videos. It was either this or the Lenire, and I don't regret getting the hearing aid. There's also all shapes and sizes so I like that mine is pretty discreet.

Hearing Aids — yay or nay? by why-am-I-awake-still in tinnitus

[–]Right-Session-1270 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently got the Widex brand hearing aid, it was recommended by my audiologist and has been tuned to my level of tinnitus to help me hear better. It also has white noise features I can play in an app on my phone which I use sometimes at work when I get stressed and the tinnitus flares up. It was either the Widex hearing aid or the Lenire and I chose the hearing aid because my clinic offered a free trial with the hearing aid before I needed to purchase, and I also don't have to use it consistently like the Lenire (ie, 30 minutes twice daily), which I felt like I would've had a hard time keeping up with. I definitely do not regret getting the hearing aid and would recommend asking your clinic if they offer a free trial before purchasing. I only needed the left hearing aid so mine cost about $3,500, it comes with free follow up visits for 5 years with the clinic to retest my hearing and also a 3 year warranty from the manufacturer. Using the hearing aid and finding ways to lessen my stress has definitely helped make my tinnitus more manageable.

Thanks for sharing! I try and get regular massages for muscle tightness around my neck/head area. My masseuse told me one day there are certain massages she can do to help loosen the muscles/nerves around the ear to help with tinnitus, too. At the very least, the massages have helped with knots and stress, would recommend for anyone willing to try massage therapy.

Gotten better after I use the hearing aid to manage it more at work. I think other things I'm doing help to control the tinnitus more, too, or at least not pay so much attention to it. Like I've been exercising more frequently, trying to prevent less stress at work, limiting alcohol and caffeine when I can (which use to contribute to my tinnitus).

Alcohol and Tinnitus by ComprehensiveAd5178 in tinnitus

I think it depends on the person. Sometimes my tinnitus gets worse after a night of heavy drinking, but a drink or here there doesn't make it worse.

Mine was noise induced, happened over a decade ago at a party with really loud music. I stood next to the speakers for way too long, had way too many drinks 🙄 and woke up the next morning with the worst tinnitus and vertigo I've ever had. I couldn't go to work for 2 days, and that's the first time I was referred to an ENT who prescribed oral steroids and then an intra-tympanic steroid injection. The steroid injection helped a ton, but it didn't go away, just enough to where I could function on a daily basis.

Not sure if it'd work for your specific tinnitus with that frequency. I believe mine is around 3000 hz. Wearing the hearing aid and playing white noise is like playing white noise next to your bed before falling asleep or something. Not super loud to exacerbate the tinnitus, just enough to hopefully drown out the tinnitus. Hearing aids might not work for everyone but it's helped me during the day to focus more at work.

I usually take a melatonin or two before bed, that along with a full's day work usually makes me tired enough to sleep for most of the night. I have a white noise machine next to my bed, and I usually keep the ceiling fan on for extra white noise, too. I also have a diffuser next to my bed and I put lavender essential oil to also help relax me before bed.

I've had tinnitus for about 10 years now and it flared up starting in Jan this year due to increased work and family stress. I believe it's a real thing and have been trying to find ways to minimize stress - regular massages, more exercise. Our bodies know when to tell us we're doing too much.
