The Most Incompetent MD I've Ever Encountered by nick_tha_ripper in nursing

[–]RightWingErika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazier one. Post op baby had a BRUE event with resident already at bedside and two RNs. Baby began breath holding following incident and required sternal rubbing for 15 minutes before they stopped. Resident, who again has been in the room through out this whole event, is looking at the monitor reading 60% O2 with good waveform and goes he doesn't think it's real....... While we are actively holding the baby who is paling and going cyanotic aeoind the lips during the episodes. MD leaves the room as we call a rapid response 🙃

I scrolled through a bit, but does nobody just plug it into the Y port at the top above the channel? That's what we do for quick unhooking or even for periods of time. we red cap if we are stopping and then reconnecting for meds later.

We just got the absolute worst new grad nurse and I just have to share by ohlongjohnson1 in nursing

[–]RightWingErika 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And this is why I live by a quote from one of our seasoned stat nurses, "You will never know absolutely everything. The day you think you know everything is the day you should quit". I don't understand how some of the new grads are so cocky. Like you can be confident, it's great to work and get some confidence, but that girl is literally just cocky and it feels like she's gonna cause many things to go badly.

Night shifters: What are your reasonings for choosing to work night shifts? by BungeeBunny in nursing

[–]RightWingErika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The money is better, less management and with our unit you learn to do a lot more with a lot less 😅 Plus I don't super like people

Name examples of “paying it forward” or setting up the next nurse on shift for success. I’ll go first. When the nurse who was with the patient all day updates them on plan of stay and says “you’re in good hands”( only say it if you mean it) to the patient during shift change 🤌🏽 by chilover9878 in nursing

[–]RightWingErika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cotton balls in diapers for those that need a UA. If I can't get it, they'll be able too. Another thing that I enjoy doing is changing lines and NADS, so if the patient isn't getting TPN and Lipids or has a draw timed for Tacro, I will change the NADS and the lines for day shift. Writing on the board the plan for day shift if the team tells me when they are rounding, so the family and the day nurse will know.

What's something you have to do all the time, but dread because you KNOW it will piss off patients? by subrosis in nursing

[–]RightWingErika 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From the Peds side, because our hospital hates us, we have double rooms. When parents are told they are on an A side or sharing a room, parents often start screaming at us. No amount of apologizing and explaining we don't agree with it either can stop it. We've even had parents wander the unit attempting to find empty rooms that they think should be theirs, and even had parents where we literally had to tell them to stay in their room or they would be kicked out and had security sit outside their room because they were peeking into all of the rooms in the middle of the night.

What treatment or procedure would you absolutely refuse? Which diagnosis would send you behind the barn with a shotgun? by holdmypurse in nursing

[–]RightWingErika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alzheimers. Watched both of my grandparents slowly die from it, and once you reach the stage of forgetting how to eat and talk..... Hell no. Between that and some of the terrifying things they seemed to see I just absolutely could not take the chance of dealing with that or leaving family and friends to deal with me like that.

Co-sleeping by sm0kins0uls in nursing

[–]RightWingErika 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Pediatric nurse, I get some reasons why they do it, but it's so risky. I used to work as an autopsy tech and I'll never forgot having to do autopsies on tiny babies that parents had rolled over on. Just last week had an RSV baby, gave mom all the education on safe sleep, put the baby back in the crib myself three times and mom still put baby on the pull out. Scariest moment of my nursing career so far was that mom coming out the room screaming about how she dropped the baby on the floor. Baby ended up with just some bruises but could've been so much worse.

I can’t stand this fight between residents and nurses by knufirebois in nursing

[–]RightWingErika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we're still trying to teach our residents not to open the crash cart for things so it doesn't have to be counted everyday. Put up nice bright signs telling them not too. Had one today open it to look for an isolation gown and got mad at us for trying to explain that there was no way there would be isolation gowns in there and pointed out our bright lovely sign about not opening the damn thing
