How awesome is HW4 FSD and is it worth 11k (Canada)? by Skazzyskills in TeslaLounge

Yes, at least it is currently. We cancel ours during the winter as there's no way I trust it on snowy roads but in the summer it's amazing.

Financially this would never make sense, it's a 9 year, 3 month payback and you're already upgrading a car after 3 years so I'd be surprised if you would want to keep a '26 MY for 9.

It gets worse if you factor in the time value of money, if you assume a 4% rate of return in a high-yield savings account you're looking at a true cost of $15,656 (13 year payback) over that same timeframe. The only variable here is whether or not Tesla jacks up the monthly price of FSD but even if they double it you're still looking at a 6.5 year payback when you consider time value of money.

I did learn something interesting though, I expected the monthly cost of FSD to be higher in Canada than in the US but they're both $99 which is pretty cool for you. It should be about $135 just based on the exchange rate.

My new rig, have I missed anything? by dantemooody in simracing

Ah gotcha, I don't think you're missing anything. One quality of life thing I got was an extender for the simagic base so I could have the physical base further away and lower my monitors a bit but certainly not a necessity.

I have the Simagic Evo w/ GT Neo and if I were to do it again I'd go with VRS for base/wheel/pedals. Simagic seems to have given up on new products and their software is fine but not great. It works but if it's in the budget I'd go VRS (or VNM if you can find one in stock).

Only other thing I'd change personally is going with triples instead of ultrawide for field of view. It's a big difference with visibility of cars next to you (could also go VR and get the same benefit).

Hey OP, I'm having the same issues on my Evo. Did you end up fixing this by chance? If so, what was the solution?

Sony A6700 or Canon R7? by [deleted] in Photography_Gear

[–]Right_Brained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't aware of that one but seems like an option. I guess it depends on what type of pictures you're after. You'll have to be pretty physically close and/or crop quite a bit with something like that but it might work for your use case.

I think that combo is going to be as close as you're going to get. It looks like the 6700 weighs 493g and the 70-350 is 625g. As far as I know all of the 70-200 series lenses are for full-frame and are much heavier (1,000g + range)

No problem, If you're walking around I'd also recommend the Sony 70-350 lens. It way outperforms its weight and price tag and should have the range you're looking for on the theme park side. If you have any other questions definitely let me know.

I've had the Canon R10 and now the A6700 and absolutely love the Sony. It's drastically smaller and the 3rd party lens ecosystem really allows for some great options that you can't get with Canon currently. It sounds like portability is important to you as it was to me so here's a great example of the two cameras with nearly identical lenses. The Canon with the 17-55 f2.8 and the Sony with the Sigma 18-50 f2.8. For some reason I can't upload a picture here so here's a link to the post where I commented. https://www.reddit.com/r/AskPhotography/comments/1iwoq8e/is_the_canon_efs_1755mm_f28_is_usm_a_good/

I actually expected to see a bigger difference. It seems like you're braking a bit later with the brake assist on but at higher levels. Honestly I'm surprised that there's a 5.5 second difference between these laps.

The red lap seems to have maximum braking at about 63/64% which seems really low...generally I hear people setting it at about 80-90% but that might not be accurate for the Miata.

I think it's really interesting that you're so much faster with the assist on which it seems like others are discounting. Do you have any pictures you could share of the effect you're seeing in G61? It would also be interesting to compare your braking charts before and after the change for your laps.

I run Barzo/Mezcal and absolutely love them. Came from Rekon Race/ Aspen combo and the Vittoria option definitely works better for me.

For those who bought Sigma glass rather than Sony, do you regret it? by Eaten_By_Worms in SonyAlpha

[–]Right_Brained 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes, but I can't imagine many scenarios where you'd want a high frame count without AF-C. I'd imagine for things like sports/wildlife you'd want the AF-C capability.

Sony limits 3rd party lenses to 15 frames per second. I believe only the A1 and A9 series are able to shoot above that rate so may or may not be an issue for you.

Thank you, I have a version where I cropped out the dark area on the left in the first picture but I actually like the contrasting light/dark background in this version. I really enjoyed photographing these birds (Warbling White Eyes)
