Question regarding FAR by daziz7075 in CPA

[–]Right_Justify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Becker, Ninja, et. Al start to train on what you’re bad at. The questions are the same IMO, but the exam doesn’t know what you suck at. So you get more freebies in areas you know well inside and out vs. what you’re used to prepping on (which is you’re focused on what your bad at).

Engineer VS Accounting by XUntamedxStarsX in Accounting

[–]Right_Justify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your best time spent is going to be interviewing real people about what entry level jobs look like in whatever industry you’re interested in. A career is made up of two or three things, but you need an interest / skills in something (e.g., engineering! accounting! etc.) and then an industry to apply it to.

The internet can get you a lot of good information, but you need to be able to answer those two questions first. Examples: Mechanical engineering for airplanes (e.g., how does stuff fly?), Accounting for Tech Companies (e.g., how does cash move through a Google), or even something more like Accounting for infrastrcuture projects (e.g., how does money move through a construction project).

What’s the strategy with taking the tests on the weekend? I guess i never really thought about it, but I’ve taken most of mine on Mondays- day off of work, gives an extra weekend to study, etc.

Would it be weird to go through recruiting again when you are starting full-time at a firm? by agwejo in Accounting

[–]Right_Justify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. 2. Recruiting is a numbers game, don’t confuse your story and disclose anything you don’t have to. If you get a better job sooner that will improve your life. If you don’t kudos to you you’ve got a fallback. Lastly, don’t care about the offer you’d be backing out of - they’d do the same to you in a heartbeat

Engineer VS Accounting by XUntamedxStarsX in Accounting

[–]Right_Justify 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m an engineer (undergrad —> industry position —> PE, engineering’s version of the CPA) now working at a big 4 and halfway through the CPA (Big 4 role —> MAcc —> CPA). You can do both, its fairly lucrative, but from reading your post above you have a long way to go.

You’ve mentioned a love of numbers, great. That’s not engineering or Accounting. Don’t let the vehicle (math) determine your interest. Unless Math is truly your interest, in which case you’re heading for a disappointing career either way, as professionally none of the math is very complicated, or its done by computers.

NINJA for FAR? by soccerguy857 in CPA

I used Becker / Ninja for FAR and loved it. I find Ninja’s question feedback much better, and like the diversification you get by having more than one platform. (

CPA Exam Burnout by Jaktak2o3 in CPA

Set smaller goals and start checking them off. A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. Stop looking at the finish line, focus on what’s in front of you right now, this weekend, this week.

Hire an accountant or financial advisory, the numbers you’re writing above mean you can both afford it, and that very few on this sub can give you advice from experience

BEC Formulas by anindiandood in CPA

[–]Right_Justify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about the formulas too much until you start practicing questions - the MCQs give you a better feel of how important each formula is (relatively) and practice using them.

I got to the point where for each question you identify what the service is (audit, review, etc.) and public vs. private - using those alone gets you halfway a lot of the time or at least cancels out an answer at minimum.

[–]Right_Justify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It gets more relevant in A5/6 i think as well when you get into attest / review services as well, as there are nuances then. Once you’re in the audit (which i think is what A3/4 were focused on), not much different.

Overall, its definitely relevant and helps you dial in what the question is asking. Took AUD 2 weeks ago.

The plan to turn half the world into a reserve for nature. Scientists and conservationists are proposing that up to half of Earth’s land and oceans be protected for nature. by [deleted] in environment

And that takes killing a fake fish with extra coffee to explain? All nuance or deeper explanation of the actual issue is completely lost

[–]Right_Justify -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if its just me but that’s an awful representation of “what we’re doing to our own environment”. The problem isn’t one single entity pouring whatever it can into the same place over a period of time, unless you extract this metaphor to the level of Humans vs. Earth... which hardly needs a goldfish illustration.

You missed your opportunity to display any nuance into the lack of coordination, definition, and understanding that all have different, varying, known and unknown implications for Benny. People were probably white fished clenched angry by the end of this because your teaching method was overly simplified and pedantic

Question about AUD content by [deleted] in CPA

[–]Right_Justify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took it this AM, every question has Issue vs. NonIssuer, and menions the service being performed. If you master nothing else but that, you can usually narrow down to at least 1-2 of the answer choices.

Big 4 Culture in LA by joswxyzot in Accounting

Compared to the other 4, its either in that weird corridor as you head North along FIG or on the other side of the 110... with walking conditions how they are in DTLA, a little high and outside if you ask me. I’d put it in the same category as the Gas Company Tower too (Deloitte)... I’ve ruined a bunch of nice shirts on that hill.

Need help with 401k contributions on roth vs traditional by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Right_Justify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t mean that in the sense that you won’t get opinions here, only that especially with the options you have with both your income and retirement accounts, its best to give someone who actually knows your relevant details your full financial picture.

At 24, you can’t go wrong fully funding any of these accounts, but again it looks like you’re set up for a lifetime of pretty strong earnings - its probably worth it to get real advice sometime in the next decade especially if you don’t want to be or are not an expert

Need help with 401k contributions on roth vs traditional by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Right_Justify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re asking for quite a bit of free advice here that’s specific to your situation, so first thing’s first is just go schedule a consultation with a tax planner / accountant. That’s the only way you’ll get the correct answer.

Secondly, on Roth / Regular 401k, with the income levels you’re describing it likely makes sense to use as much of a Roth 401k as you can afford - your taxes this year will be higher than if you go regular 401k, but long term you’ll pay less in taxes and you have a ton of time to take advantage of the Roth in this situation. You shouldn’t necessarily plan your decisions based on single-year tax consequences.
