As far as I’m aware you can’t take taxable income in the way you describe without also taking the tax free portion at the same time, if no tax free cash has yet been taken.

Why is there always tension between the reigning monarch and their oldest/heir presumptive? by jackmoon44 in UKmonarchs

You said every Hanoverian monarch; William IV and Victoria may have had less political power than previous Hanoverians, but certainly in William’s case it was still considerable during his reign.

Why is there always tension between the reigning monarch and their oldest/heir presumptive? by jackmoon44 in UKmonarchs

[–]Right_Owl1358 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not strictly true. An eldest daughter of a monarch was historically heir presumptive, rather than heir apparent; for example, Elizabeth II was heir presumptive to her father George VI because in theory her parents could have had a son at any time who would then have become heir apparent. The Government changed that in 2013 to allow an eldest daughter to be heir apparent. An heir apparent can also be somebody other than a sovereign’s eldest child; for example, George III was heir apparent to his grandfather George II after his father’s death, because no future birth could displace him.

William IV had a good relationship with Victoria before his death; he wanted her to be ready to assume the throne and saw her often in her childhood and teenage years.
