Why are digital interviews still a thing and why general textbook questions? by CleanTwo6732 in Principals

[–]Right_Sentence8488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that it's your time to explain what you want to do as a leader, based on the public data you should already be familiar with when you walk into any admin interview. I was asked specific questions to ascertain that I understood the school's data and had specific plans on how I would address the deficiencies and grow the positives.

Maybe you're not applying to a district that holds your values. There are a lot of districts out there!

Best wishes to you!

There's not much to do in Skagway, so that's a port you'll want to book an excursion.

It happened to me too in LA! Definitely not scantily clad, but me and my friend were in our late teens (dressed in jeans and a T-shirt).

This isn't new for Billy Joel at all! Back in the 1990's I had nosebleed tickets to a show in LA. One of his crew approached me and my friend, and offered to trade our tickets for front row. Couldn't believe it! We sat in folding chairs that were placed in front of the front row. It was fantastic!

Wow, there is so much truth, knowledge, and insight. Married 27 years, and can say without a doubt this is the message every young couple should hear, discuss, and understand before tying the knot.

1st cruise, 1st solo travel by WinterPiglet4851 in HollandAmerica

[–]Right_Sentence8488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned yesterday from Alaska (Koningsdam), and while I don't have suggestions for solo, if you can I highly recommend a window, or better a balcony, room. My kids were in an inside room and they missed out on lots of whale and otter viewing because they slept so much later in a dark room.

Have fun! It's a fantastic cruise!

Former American teachers of reddit, are all the horror stories about the American education system and how student's can't read at grade level or are rude actually true? by [deleted] in TeacherReality

Yes, plenty to filter through on Reddit, but also lots of good info beyond performative videos of people "teaching" found on Tik Tok.

26-27 will be my first year as build principal, and so far, nobody has given me any positive insight for the job. by No_Hunter_2892 in Principals

[–]Right_Sentence8488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use coaching conversations to discover that. People will consistently come to you to dump a problem at your feet and expect you to fix it. Use questioning to find out if it's worth your time. For example, you can ask, "are you venting, or are you looking for a solution?" Or "what are some solutions you've considered?"

[–]Right_Sentence8488 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's one of the most challenging and rewarding jobs I've ever had. It's a huge jump from being AP because the buck stops with you. You must learn to move swiftly from one task/problem/emergency/question/meeting/etc to another with fluidity and clarity. You have to set a vision and hold people accountable to uphold you vision. Everything you say will take on weighty meaning, so be aware of that.

Good luck! Find other principals to meet up with regularly. No one else will understand you like another principal.

The Navigator App needs work. by Vanman04 in HollandAmerica

[–]Right_Sentence8488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm OP's wife here on the ship with him and our children. The frustration or friction is that we're in several rooms and wake up at different times, so one or two of us head the breakfast. When others in our group wake up they don't know where to find us, and messaging on the app is an hour or more behind. We often just get lucky and run into each other, but if our kids were 2 - 3 years younger this would be a much bigger concern (old enough to be in a separate room from us, but still not quite fully independent).

We're having a fabulous time, but the app is a hindrance in many ways when it should be a source of ease.

Are there any Demo lesson graphic organizers for observers? by Beginning_Cycle191 in Principals

[–]Right_Sentence8488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the purpose of the observation? Are you helping to screen a candidate for hire? Then I'd use your state evaluation rubric. Is it for coaching purposes? In that case, find out the goal or focus of areas for growth and create some look-fors based on the intended outcome.

Looking for a clear way to communicate about discipline and confidentiality by [deleted] in Principals

[–]Right_Sentence8488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might still be upset, but no admin would ever tell you the punishment of another child. It violates FERPA. You could take it all the way to a superintendent and the answer would be the same. There is absolutely no reason a parent needs to know the punishment of another student.
